  • Like Candy PP Archival Print by Leon Keer

Leon Keer Like Candy PP Archival Print by Leon Keer

Like Candy Limited Edition Archival Pigment Print Transfer on Laser Cut Archival Foam Core Board by Modern Pop Street Graffiti Artist Leon Keer. PP Printers Proof 2019 Marked PP Archival Pigment Print Transfer on Laser Cut Archival Foam Core Board Size: 24 x 18.625 x .25 Inches Release: June 18, 2019- Slight knick to upper left-facing corner, barely visible. "I created this painting to talk about the over-prescription of pain management drugs and false assumption about the effectiveness of medicine, caused a worldwide abuse of and addiction to painkillers such as Vicodin." - Leon Keer. Interpreting Leon Keer's Message Leon Keer's "Like Candy" is a provocative piece of Street Pop Art and graffiti Artwork, symbolic of the genre's power to comment on social issues. Created in 2019 and marked as a Printers Proof (PP), this archival pigment print transfer on laser-cut archival foam core board is a stark reminder of the darker side of medication in modern society. Sized at 24 x 18.625 x .25 inches and released on June 18, 2019, it's noteworthy for a slight imperfection: a barely visible nick to the upper left-facing corner, which, rather than detracting, adds a layer of authenticity to the work. Keer's creation is more than a visual treat; it's a critical commentary on the healthcare industry's frivolous distribution of potent medications. By juxtaposing the addictive nature of painkillers like Vicodin against the innocent imagery of candy, Keer draws a parallel to the deceptive allure of these drugs. The artwork's title, "Like Candy," underscores the ease with which such medications can be obtained and consumed, often with little thought to the consequences. Keer explicitly mentions his intent to spotlight the over-prescription of pain management drugs and the mistaken beliefs surrounding their effectiveness, which has fueled a global crisis of abuse and addiction. Artistic Expression and Social Commentary Keer's methodology incorporates traditional elements of street art with modern techniques, resulting in a piece that is both aesthetically pleasing and deeply thought-provoking. His choice of medium—archival pigment print transfer on laser-cut archival foam core board—reflects a contemporary edge, aligning with the innovative spirit of street and pop art. The three-dimensional aspect of the laser-cut foam adds depth to the piece, further emphasizing the layers of meaning behind the façade of pharmaceutical consumption. The artwork, while visually aligned with the playful nature of street art, carries a sad message that resonates with a broad audience, transcending the boundaries of conventional graffiti artwork. The Impact of "Like Candy" In Street Pop Art and graffiti Artwork, Leon Keer's "Like Candy" is a powerful conversation starter. It's an artwork that doesn't just sit quietly on the wall; it challenges viewers to reconsider their perceptions of medicine. It acts as a mirror to society's often casual treatment of prescription drugs, contrasting the colorful, child-like appeal of candy with the severe implications of medication misuse. Keer's art reflects his mastery of the pop art aesthetic and demonstrates the potential of street art to effect change and provoke discussion about pressing societal issues. Reflection on the Pharmaceutical Industry Keer's artwork is a scathing critique of the pharmaceutical industry's role in the epidemic of drug dependency. Keer cleverly subverts our expectations by transferring the image of gummy candies, which are typically associated with sweetness and pleasure, onto a medium that suggests prescription medication. The artwork raises questions about the responsibility of drug companies in the opioid crisis and the ease with which powerful drugs are marketed and distributed. "Like Candy" is a poignant reminder that what may be sold as a panacea can sometimes become a peril, a statement that echoes through the halls of modern Street Pop Art and graffiti Artwork. "Like Candy" is a testament to Leon Keer's artistic skill and his commitment to using art as a means of social commentary. With its thoughtful construction and impactful message, it remains a significant piece within contemporary art discourse. As with many great works of Street Pop Art and graffiti Artwork, it bridges the gap between aesthetic appeal and social consciousness, proving that art can be beautiful and a bearer of important messages. This piece stands out as a poignant reflection on an issue affecting millions worldwide, ensuring its relevance for years.

How I relate with cartoons and graphics is a lot easier than I do with photo-realistic stuff. I love referencing things that people are so familiar with. With humor and nostalgia, you can open up communication. I’ve done that for years, used elements of humor and familiarity to open a dialogue because then you can slide in some real issues and different things you’re trying to convey in your work. You have a lot more open stream to the person’s consciousness and experience towards how they’re taking your art. If you can get them to laugh at it, remember something or relate to some image.

Signed & Numbered Archival Pigment Print on 310gsm on Bright White Fine Art Paper Size: 16 x 24 Inches Release: August 28, 2015 Run of: 50 "This piece was created very late in 2013 and it has many layers. I first processed down panels to get the tiled effect I desired. Then I started to lay down layer of texture which eventually ended with the portrait seen. It was originally made for an event I did at the Saint Petersburg Museum of Art. The show paired 5 artists with 5 locally celebrated chefs to collaborate. The chef was to make a dish inspired by the work. The piece was also made in as part of an on going series of portrait works painted mostly in halftones. I like working with weather old wood for the unique texture it provides. With this piece I didn't want to use a single piece of wood but several to achieve a wood tile look much like the facade of an abandoned building. People should buy this piece because it hopefully speaks to them in a similar way it spoke to me when I made it. People should also buy the print because prints from 1xRUN are simply put, fucking awesome!" - Bask

PP Printers Proof 2018 Signed & Marked PP Limited Edition Artwork Size 24x18 Archival Pigment Fine Art. Cici N'est Pas Une Mickey Mouse, or "This is Not a Mickey Mouse" Exploring "Ceci N'est Pas Une Mickey Mouse" by Shark Toof "Ceci N'est Pas Une Mickey Mouse" is a Printer's Proof (PP) archival print that illuminates Shark Toof's presence in the contemporary pop art movement. Produced in 2018, this work is an artistic assertion, signed and marked PP, signifying its authenticity and rarity as a limited edition. Printed on 310gsm Fine Art Paper, the artwork employs archival pigment, ensuring that the vibrancy of its colors and the precision of its lines endure. The artwork, with dimensions of 24x18 inches, offers a substantial visual impact, reflecting the artist's intent to blend the world of street pop art with the finesse of fine art. Street Pop Art and Iconic Imagery In this piece, Shark Toof takes on the iconic image of Mickey Mouse, transforming it into a work that transcends the boundaries of graffiti and street pop art. Mickey Mouse, created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, symbolizes childhood innocence and American popular culture since 1928. Shark Toof's rendition challenges this benign image, presenting an iteration that compels viewers to confront the layered meanings behind such a globally recognized symbol. By doing so, Shark Toof partakes in the grand tradition of pop art—recontextualizing familiar imagery to provoke thought and dialogue. Contemporary Reflections in Modern Art The piece's title, "Ceci N'est Pas Une Mickey Mouse," directly references René Magritte's "The Treachery of Images," a work that challenges observers' perceptions of reality. Similarly, Shark Toof's artwork invites the audience to reconsider the image of Mickey Mouse, asking them to delve deeper into their understanding of pop culture icons and their significance. This piece does not merely represent Mickey Mouse; it is a complex commentary on the character as a cultural product and its ubiquitous presence in the collective consciousness. Shark Toof uses a collage of disparate elements to compose the figure, hinting at the multifaceted nature of Mickey Mouse as a character that has been reinvented and reinterpreted over decades—the sharp teeth and fragmented composition critique childhood's commercialization and consumer culture's predatory nature. Shark Toof's Mickey Mouse symbolizes the loss of innocence in the face of commercial exploitation. Fine art paper and archival pigment position this piece within the discourse of art preservation, juxtaposing the ephemeral nature of street art with the permanence sought by fine artworks. In doing so, Shark Toof elevates the status of street pop art, aligning it with traditional art forms and ensuring its legacy. "Ceci N'est Pas Une Mickey Mouse" is a testament to Shark Toof's ability to navigate the interstices of pop culture, street art, and high art. His work declares that street pop art and graffiti artwork are not just fleeting visuals in the urban landscape but are significant statements with the power to influence, critique, and enrich the art world. Through this piece, Shark Toof contributes to the ongoing conversation about the role and impact of popular culture in art, urging us to reflect on the images we consume and the meanings we ascribe to them.

Denial's work often comments on consumerism, politics, and the media, and "American Daydream-Foil" is no exception. Reflective Surfaces and Societal Reflections in Denial's Art The reflective surface of "American Daydream-Foil" is a literal and figurative mirror, inviting viewers to reflect on their perceptions and the societal constructs that shape them. Denial’s use of foil is remarkably evocative, as it not only catches the eye but also suggests the allure and superficiality of the American Dream. The way the artwork's appearance changes with light and angle can be seen as a metaphor for the shifting nature of this dream and the elusive pursuit of happiness within modern American culture. The piece's limited release and its Printer's Proof status elevate its value in the art market, making it a sought-after item for collectors of street pop art, graffiti artwork, and modern pop art. The PP mark signifies that this particular edition was used to check the quality before the final run, often kept by the artist for personal reasons or sold to discerning collectors who appreciate the rarity and authenticity of such proofs. As with much of Denial's work, the piece is imbued with layers of meaning, challenging viewers to look beyond the surface and consider the more profound commentary on the culture surrounding them. In contemporary art, "American Daydream-Foil" stands as a vibrant example of how traditional pop art motifs and modern techniques can come together to create something that reflects and reacts to the society from which it springs.

PP Printer Proof 2019 Signed & Numbered Blue Limited Edition of 150 3-Color Screen Print on 320gsm Natural Coventry Rag Vellum Size: 18 x 24 Inches Release: July 02, 2021. "I chose an image of Ron and Niagara where I think they both look amazing, but there was a nice balance between in-your-face aggression with Ron's pose making eye contact, holding his fist up, and Niagara's seemingly demure embrace of Ron, but anyone who knows Niagara understands that though she may look sedate, she's pulling the strings. I added a switchblade that she is caressing with her finger, as a way to amplify her femme fatale chic, and because I thought it lent itself to my original idea of a title 'Bonnie & Clyde Were Lightweights.'" – Shepard Fairey-.OBEY Niagara and Shepard Fairey's 'Tomorrow's Another Night': A Striking Silkscreen Collaboration 'Tomorrow's Another Night,' a captivating blue PP Printer's Proof silkscreen print, stands as a testament to the collaborative genius of Niagara and Shepard Fairey. The print portrays two figures, Ron and Niagara, in a complex interplay of visual tension and harmony. Shepard Fairey's description of the piece reveals a deliberate balance between the overt aggression shown by Ron's direct eye contact and raised fist and Niagara's ostensibly gentle embrace. Yet, as Fairey notes, the true power lies with Niagara, whose understated demeanor masks a controlling presence, symbolized by the switchblade subtly caressed by her finger. This addition by Fairey amplifies the femme fatale motif and ties in with his original concept for the print, suggesting a narrative of concealed strength and influence. Exploring the Visual and Conceptual Depth of 'Tomorrow's Another Night' In creating 'Tomorrow's Another Night,' Fairey and Niagara delve into the dynamics of power, control, and the role of iconography in art. The piece's title and the imagery together weave a tale of anticipation and the recurring cycles of life's drama. The use of a limited color palette accentuates the graphic strength of the work. At the same time, the choice of a high-quality silkscreen process ensures that each color pops against the paper, offering a texture and depth that resonate with the layered meanings of the artwork. The collaboration between the two artists brings together distinct styles and perspectives, marrying the raw edge of street art with the finesse of fine art printmaking. Fairey's background in street pop art and activism and Niagara's punk rock aesthetic combine to create a print that is both a visual feast and a piece of social commentary. The contrast between Ron's defiant gesture and Niagara's subtle dominance challenges traditional gender narratives and invites viewers to look beyond appearances to the complex stories beneath. Cultural Significance and Artistic Legacy of the Print 'Tomorrow's Another Night' is more than just a piece of art; it is a cultural artifact that captures a moment in the evolution of street art and its intersection with pop culture. A Printer's Proof (PP) is a select print aside from the numbered series, typically reserved for the printer's use. While street artists may begin their work without the intention of sale, the demand for their art can lead to the creation of limited edition prints. As part of this process, PP prints maintain the spirit of the original work while adapting to the realities of the art market. For artists, these proofs can serve as a means to sustain their practice, allowing them to continue creating freely in the public domain.
