Shepard Fairey- OBEY Protect The Blue Planet- Large Format Serigraph Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Protect The Blue Planet- Large Format Limited Edition Hand Pulled 2-Color Serigraph Print on 100% Cotton Coventry Rag Paper by Shepard Fairey Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 2022 Signed & Numbered Hand Deckled 30 x 41 inches Serigraph on Coventry Rag, 100% cotton custom archival paper Hand-deckled edges Limited Edition of 75 Signed + Numbered Printed by Obey Giant "Protect The Blue Planet" stands as a testament to Shepard Fairey's dedication to using his art as a vehicle for environmental advocacy, fusing the worlds of pop art, street art, and graffiti art. This limited edition, hand-pulled 2-color serigraph, reveals the intricate relationship between humanity and our environment. Imprinted on 100% cotton Coventry Rag paper, the choice of material underpins Fairey’s commitment to sustainable artistry. The dimensionality of the piece, 30 x 41 inches, lends itself to an immersive viewing experience, accentuated further by its hand-deckled edges, which bring a tactile, organic touch, reminiscent of the raw edges of street posters. In partnering with the PangeaSeed Foundation to release this work for Earth Month, Fairey encapsulates the pressing environmental concerns of the modern era. Central to the piece is the depiction of an endangered North Atlantic right whale that exudes a mandala with the earth cradled within. This mandala, rooted in various cultural traditions, signifies harmony, unity, and the interconnectivity of the planet's ecosystems. The floral ornaments within it blossom as symbols of flourishing harmony, but the contrasting inclusion of flames starkly reminds viewers of the ever-looming threat of global warming. The text - "Protect the Blue Planet" and "One Ocean-One People" - along with the chosen blue palette, draws attention to the inextricable bond between thriving oceans and a sustainable world. As a renowned figure in the street art community, Fairey's work has always pushed boundaries, and with "Protect The Blue Planet", he once again blurs the lines between artistic expression, activism, and social responsibility, reminding the world of its role in safeguarding the planet. "To celebrate Earth Month, in collaboration with PangeaSeed Foundation, I’m pleased to release, “Protect The Blue Planet” which features an endangered North Atlantic right whale emanating a mandala with the earth as its focal point. In several cultures, the mandala represents harmony, unity, and wholeness, all of which are important concepts when considering the interconnected nature of the planet’s ecosystems, people, and species. The mandala features floral ornaments symbolizing harmony in bloom, but also flames as a reminder of the perils of global warming. The “Protect the Blue Planet” and “One Ocean-One People” text within the artwork and the blue color palette serve to emphasize the crucial connection between healthy oceans and a healthy planet." – Shepard

  • Flint Eye Alert Globe Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Shepard Fairey- OBEY Flint Eye Alert Globe Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Flint Eye Alert Globe 4-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on French True White Art Paper by Artist Shepard Fairey Artwork. 2017 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 450 Size 18x24 “This piece is based on a painting I did for my ‘Earth Crisis’ show in Paris. The entire body of work for that show used these shades of blue/turquoise as a connection to the air and water that is essential to sustaining life on planet Earth. This piece is more specifically about the idea that we need to see what is right in front of us, that we are dependent on nature and I used the blooming flower as a symbol of both beauty and growth. If we keep ruining the air and water, things won’t grow, not to mention we’ll all get sick.”

  • Moon Over Biloxi- White Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Shepard Fairey- OBEY Moon Over Biloxi- White Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Moon Over Biloxi- White 1-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on Fine Art Paper by Shepard Fairey Rare Street Art Famous Pop Artwork Artist. White Variant Signed & Numbered Moon Over Biloxi Screen Print 18 x 24 inches Edition of 200 July 27, 2010. "The title of this print “Moon Over Biloxi” is a tribute to the Dead Kennedy’s song “Moon Over Marin”. In 1984 I picked up maybe my 4th punk record which was the 2nd Dead Kennedy’s album “Plastic Surgery Disasters”. The album is a great listen all the way through and includes some blistering tunes like “Riot” and “Bleed For Me” laced with social commentary. The surprise song though is “Moon Over Marin”… detractors have called it the Dead Kennedy’s “U2” song, but I disagree. “Moon Over Marin” is more melodic than most DK, but juxtaposed with the darkness of the lyrics, the song evokes a powerful sense of existential melancholy. I think the concept that struck me, and stuck with me, is that our disrespect of each other and the planet may doom us, but things will continue without us. I think it is healthy to recognize impermanence, but also to appreciate the value of the ephemeral. Moonlight, real or electric, will probably be around, but what it will be casting light on is the real question. There will always be a moon over Biloxi." -Shepard

Protest

Graffiti Street Pop Art has long been a powerful medium of expression for many, and it is not uncommon for artists to use this form to voice their concerns, opinions, or support for various social and political issues. Protests in graffiti street pop art can take on various forms, such as murals, stencils, or large-scale installations, and they often address issues like injustice, inequality, or environmental concerns. Notable graffiti and street artists who have used their art for protest include: Banksy: One of the most famous street artists worldwide, Banksy's satirical and provocative works often address topics like war, capitalism, and authoritarianism. His murals have appeared in various locations, sparking discussions and debates on the issues he raises. Shepard Fairey: Known for his iconic "Hope" poster featuring Barack Obama, Fairey's work often focuses on political and social themes. His "Obey Giant" campaign, which features an imposing image of wrestler Andre the Giant, is a call to question authority and the way information is manipulated in society. Blu: This Italian street artist creates massive murals that tackle issues such as pollution, war, and political corruption. Blu's powerful and thought-provoking art has become an important part of the urban landscape in cities around the world. JR: A French artist known for his large-scale, black-and-white photographic installations, JR often works in conflict zones and impoverished communities to give a voice to the people living there. His "Inside Out" project encourages individuals worldwide to share their portrait and a statement about an issue they care about. Keith Haring: An influential figure in the New York City street art scene of the 1980s, Haring's vibrant, energetic murals often touched on social issues like AIDS awareness, drug addiction, and apartheid. Though he passed away in 1990, his work continues to inspire new generations of artists. These artists and many others have successfully used graffiti street pop art to protest and bring attention to various issues. Their work demonstrates the power of art as a means to engage with and challenge the status quo, fostering dialogue and change.
