LAFC Calavera- AP Artist Proof Hand-Pulled Silkscreen Print on Fine Art Paper by Latino Artist Ernesto Yerena Montejano- Hecho Con Ganas Limited Edition Artwork. AP Artist Proof 2021 Signed & Marked Limited Edition Artwork Size 18x24 The LAFC Los Angeles Football Club Soccer Calavera by Boyle Heights Artist Ernesto Yerena Montejano. “LAFC is LA culture. It was an honor to create a new Calavera symbol for this Club, and to honor loved ones who have passed.” -Ernesto Yerena Montejano Amid the bustling streets of Boyle Heights, a distinctive artwork captures the very essence of Los Angeles' vibrant soccer culture. The LAFC Calavera, created by renowned Latino artist Ernesto Yerena Montejano, exemplifies the fervent intersection of sports and art. Hand-pulled in the meticulous process of silkscreen printing on fine art paper, this piece is not just any artwork. It is an Artist Proof (AP) from 2021, indicating that it's among the first impressions made from the stencil, meticulously examined for quality and consistency before the final run. Ernesto Yerena Montejano, known for his commitment to producing resonating art under his brand "Hecho Con Ganas," has intricately designed this masterpiece. His depiction of the Calavera, a symbol commonly associated with the Day of the Dead, integrates seamlessly with the ethos of the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC). As Montejano himself puts it, "LAFC is LA culture." The artwork is not just an emblem of a soccer club; it is a tribute to the departed, a nod to the cultural significance of remembering loved ones. Artworks such as the LAFC Calavera draw their lineage from the vibrant traditions of pop art, street art, and graffiti. These genres challenge convention, often merging disparate symbols and contexts to create meaning. Montejano's Calavera stands as a testament to the power of such fusion, intertwining the energy of LA's soccer scene with profound cultural symbols. The 18x24 signed and marked limited edition piece is more than just a visual treat; it's a narrative of identity, passion, and remembrance, immortalized in ink and paper.

DKNG El Pulpo Silkscreen Print by DKNG

El Pulpo Limited Edition 1-Color Hand-Pulled Silkscreen Print on Fine Art Paper by DKNG Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 'El Pulpo' (the octopus), based on a recent poster we created for Slightly Stoopid & Atmosphere's performance at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley. Inspired by San Diego surf culture and Dia De Los Muertos imagery, we decided on an ornate octopus and surfboard as fitting iconography for the show as well as a nice tribute to our hometown. This print is a bit of a departure for us as it’s just a one-color print, but what makes it a bit more unique is the gold leaf stock on which it’s printed. Check out a few close-up photos below of the shimmering print as well as the process video we created for the gig poster.

Particularly, I so remember the early 90’s and seeing a lot of Raider, Charger, Chivas de Guadalajara and America jersey’s and of course those of the Dodger’s and their blue and white hats with the iconic LA blazoned on the front. But my immediate family was different. My dad who in the early 1990’s sold automotive paint and painted cars was surprisingly not that much into the usual sports but all except for BOXING! At that point in time I remember the gatherings at my house when there was a Julio Ces One- Rob Provenzano ar Chavez fight, a De La Hoya fight or a Maromero Paez fight. My dad would bring the TV outside, set-up a bunch of chairs, roll out the grill, fire up the mesquite and lay down the marinated carne asada before the first round bell. I remember how much fun those days were and how much pride people had in the Mexican fighters." -Ernesto Yerena Montejano

  • Muhammad Ali Heavyweight Ideals Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Shepard Fairey- OBEY Muhammad Ali Heavyweight Ideals Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Muhammad Ali Heavyweight Ideals Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY Hand-Pulled on Speckletone Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Artwork. 2023 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 500 Artwork Size 18x24 Silkscreen Print of Boxer Muhammad Ali Face As Young Man in A Suit. "Based on an incredible photo by Howard Bingham provided by his son Dustin, I wanted to emphasize Ali's role as an outspoken citizen and activist. Ali was a civil rights activist, a conscientious objector to the Vietnam War, a philanthropist, and a U.N. Messenger of Peace. I admire that Ali stood up for what he believed even when he potentially faced jail and the end of his boxing career. The Chestnut St. YMCA, where we painted the Ali mural, is blocks from Ali's childhood school and a place he frequented in his youth. I'm very grateful to the YMCA for providing an incredible wall with an authentic connection to Ali's life. A project of this magnitude can't come to fruition without many people collaborating generously." -Shepard Fairey. Few names in pop and street art have achieved as much recognition and influence as Shepard Fairey, the creative force behind the OBEY brand. Fairey's "Muhammad Ali Heavyweight Ideals" silkscreen print is a testament to his craftsmanship as an artist and his dedication to spotlighting iconic figures with profound cultural significance. Drawing inspiration from a striking photograph by Howard Bingham, Fairey's depiction of a young Muhammad Ali in a suit is a compelling reflection of the boxer's legacy beyond the ring. This piece doesn't just highlight Ali as a world-class athlete but as a man deeply embedded in the socio-political issues of his time. Ali's vehement opposition to the Vietnam War, his role in the civil rights movement, and his later endeavors as a philanthropist and U.N. Messenger of Peace symbolize a life of purpose and conviction. In his tribute, Fairey magnifies these ideals, portraying Ali as a boxing legend and an activist willing to jeopardize his career and personal freedom for his beliefs. The choice of venue for the mural, the Chestnut St. YMCA, holds a poignant significance. Located blocks from Ali's childhood school and a regular spot for the young boxer, the YMCA wall is an authentic canvas, connecting Ali's formative years with his enduring legacy. Through this artwork, Fairey's intricate detailing, combined with his nuanced understanding of Ali's life, elevates the narrative of street and pop art. It underscores the potential of this medium to not only captivate visually but to instigate reflection on the profound impact of its subjects on history and culture.

Guard Your Grill Naughty by Nature A.P. Silkscreen Print by Mark Drew Artist Proof Hand-Pulled Screen Print on Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Pop Street Artwork & Graffiti. A.P. Artist Proof 2018 Signed & A.P. Marked Limited Edition Run Artwork Size 11.73.x16.5 Exploring Urban Narratives in Mark Drew's Screen Print "Guard Your Grill Naughty by Nature" is a compelling silkscreen print by artist Mark Drew, encapsulating street culture's raw energy and ethos. As an Artist Proof from 2018, this hand-pulled screen print on fine art paper signifies a limited edition run that captures the essence of the crossover between street art, graffiti, and pop culture. The artwork, sized 11.73 x 16.5 inches, is marked with the artist's signature and the distinctive A.P., asserting its status as a rare and valuable proof within the edition. This piece is a testament to Drew's mastery in combining textual and visual narratives to create a piece that is as evocative as it is aesthetically striking. The print's title, "Guard Your Grill," references a song by the hip-hop group Naughty by Nature, suggesting a theme of vigilance and resilience. Drew's work often delves into the lexicon of hip-hop, bringing its language into a visual format that resonates with a broad audience. Combining these lyrics with imagery reminiscent of classic comic strips indicates the artist's signature approach to Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork, where he bridges generational and cultural gaps to offer commentary on contemporary society. Mark Drew's Artistic Process and Cultural Impact Mark Drew's artistic process involves carefully balancing handcrafted techniques and thematic street and pop culture exploration. The screen printing process, a favorite among street and pop artists for its ability to produce vibrant, clean lines, allows Drew to create modern and timeless works. The Artist Proof designation of "Guard Your Grill" underscores the meticulous nature of Drew's practice; these proofs are typically pulled before the main edition to ensure the quality of the print, and often, they are kept by the artists themselves or sold as highly collectible items. Drew's integration of hip-hop lyricism into his work does more than pay homage to the genre; it serves as a medium for cultural commentary. By selecting phrases from hip-hop culture and integrating them into visual motifs from mid-20th-century comics, Drew fosters a dialogue between past and present, highbrow and lowbrow, and the mainstream and the marginal. This dialogue is a defining characteristic of Street Pop Art, where the interplay of different cultural elements can lead to a deeper understanding of the issues at hand. The cultural impact of Drew's work is significant. By immortalizing hip-hop's language within the framework of visual art, Drew preserves and honors the music genre's cultural significance while expanding the conversation around it. His pieces, including "Guard Your Grill," function as cultural artifacts that capture the spirit of their time while providing a lens through which future generations can understand the historical context of the 90s hip-hop movement. Drew continues to contribute to the rich tapestry of Street Pop Art and Graffiti through his art, ensuring its relevance and accessibility to a diverse and global audience.

Since then he has maintained an ongoing global street-campaign of over 500, 000 stickers, placards, and murals, using the alpha-numeric characters ‘D3N!@L’. Denial’s art is strongly political and social since the artist takes specific positions against issues, such as capitalism, consumer culture, and advertisements. More importantly, the artist is aware of his choices and motivations: “I like to think of myself as activist pop art. How I relate with cartoons and graphics is a lot easier than I do with photo-realistic stuff" Another aspect of Denial's work is humor. Since then he has maintained an ongoing global street-campaign of over 500, 000 stickers, placards, and murals, using the alpha-numeric characters ‘D3N!@L’. In the world of Denial, memory is important, because it is the basis of his work, as it nostalgically encourages the audience to engage with it. As a result, his art is as familiar, as it is disturbing because it reveals the most unsettling parts of society, the ones we are in a “denial” of. No matter its controversial history, graffiti is less and less viewed as a form of vandalism.

He has a long history of exploring the boundaries of appropriation, which he uses as a means of subverting the value of cultural products, imprinted in the collective memory of the Western civilization. His work, in other words, is inviting the viewer to re-imagine our dystopian society as a way of confronting it, with humor and irony as the biggest tools of the artist.

Stencil FIne Art Graffiti Street Pop Artwork

Emergence and Influence of Silkscreen in Street Pop Art and Graffiti

Silkscreen printing is synonymous with vibrant versatility and has profoundly influenced street pop art and graffiti artwork. This method, also known as screen printing, involves pushing ink through a mesh screen onto a substrate, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil. Its origins trace back to China during the Song Dynasty, but in the 20th century, silkscreen found its foothold in the art world. The technique gained prominence with the rise of the pop art movement, with artists like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein using it to create their iconic works. These artists utilized silkscreen to replicate and manipulate images from popular culture, a practice that resonated powerfully within the burgeoning street art scene. In the context of street pop art and graffiti artwork, silkscreen printing has been embraced for its ability to efficiently reproduce images, allowing artists to share their messages widely and quickly. The essence of street art and graffiti lies in their accessibility and often transient nature. Using silkscreen techniques, street artists can produce multiple copies of their work, extending their reach beyond the physical limitations of street walls and into galleries, exhibitions, and private collections. This has played a critical role in the democratization of art, making it accessible and relatable to a broader audience. Silkscreen printing allows for the layering of colors and textures, offering street artists a unique way to add depth and complexity to their work.

Techniques and Evolution in Street Art

The use of silkscreen in street pop art and graffiti has evolved over the years, with artists continually experimenting with new methods and materials. This evolution has led to a diverse range of styles and techniques within the genre. Some artists combine silkscreen with other mediums like spray paint or hand-drawn elements, combining traditional and contemporary methods. The flexibility of silkscreen printing also enables artists to play with scale, creating everything from small prints to large murals. This versatility has made it an essential tool in the street artist's repertoire, bridging the illicit thrill of graffiti and the more accepted domain of fine art. The cultural impact of silkscreen fine art prints in street pop art and graffiti is profound. These artworks often serve as social commentary, reflecting the artist's perspective on politics, societal norms, or consumer culture. The ability of silkscreen prints to be mass-produced has also played a crucial role in disseminating these messages, allowing them to reach and engage a wider audience. This art form has challenged traditional perceptions of fine art and given marginalized communities and viewpoints a voice. The recognition and commercial success of these prints have further validated street art as a legitimate and vital artistic expression.

Future Trajectories in Artistic Expression

Looking ahead, the future of silkscreen in street pop art and graffiti artwork appears vibrant and dynamic. The intersection of digital technology with traditional silkscreen techniques opens new frontiers for artistic expression. Artists are now exploring digital silkscreen printing, combining the precision of digital design with the tactile quality of screen printing. This hybrid approach expands street artists' creative possibilities, allowing them to experiment with more complex and detailed imagery. As the boundaries between street art, pop art, and fine art continue to blur, silkscreen printing remains a vital tool, enabling artists to push the limits of creativity and expression. Silkscreen fine art prints have significantly impacted the development and evolution of street pop art and graffiti. This medium has provided artists with a powerful means to reproduce and disseminate their work, bridging the gap between street art's ephemeral nature and fine art's enduring quality. As the art world continues to evolve, the role of silkscreen in street art and graffiti will undoubtedly remain pivotal, driving innovation and artistic exploration in the years to come.
