  • Only The Finest Poison Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Shepard Fairey- OBEY Only The Finest Poison Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Only The Finest Poison Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY Hand-Pulled on Speckletone Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Pop Street Art Artwork. 2023 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 550 Artwork Size 24x24 Silkscreen Print "This “Only the Finest Poison” print is a critique of the many methods the oil industries use to maintain business as usual, including deceptive marketing, bribing politicians, discrediting science, and concealing the truth. The news clipping included in the piece is a portion of an article revealing that ExxonMobile has known, based on their internal scientific research, for over 40 years that burning fossil fuels is warming the planet. Yet, they hid the research and publicly denied the impact of fossil fuels on climate change. It is challenging to break through the formidable layers of deterrence put in place by the powerful corporations who put profits before people and the planet, but breaking through is essential to a healthy future. A portion of proceeds from this print will benefit Greenpeace USA to support their work to fight climate change. Thanks for caring. The speckletone paper used in this print is composed of recycled material." -Shepard Fairey "Only the Finest Poison" is an exceptional work of art by Shepard Fairey, a renowned figure in the pop and street art scene. Released in 2023, this silkscreen print showcases Fairey's adeptness in merging provocative political commentary with visually compelling artistry. Limited to an edition of 550, each piece is hand-pulled on Speckletone Fine Art Paper, a unique medium composed of recycled material, further emphasizing the artist's commitment to environmental responsibility. The artwork stands as a stark critique of the global oil industry and its harmful practices. Fairey powerfully employs the use of imagery and text to shed light on the industry's egregious actions—distorting facts, undermining science, bribing political figures, and prioritizing profit over the planet's wellbeing. A crucial element of the piece is the inclusion of a news clipping, a snip from an exposé revealing ExxonMobile's long-concealed knowledge of the detrimental climate effects of burning fossil fuels. Fairey's print is an example of how art can serve as a powerful medium for social and political critique, calling viewers to contemplate the issues presented and challenging them to take action. Echoing the urgent need for change, Fairey's print not only criticizes the oil industry but also extends a helping hand towards environmental causes. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of this print is donated to Greenpeace USA, an organization known for its relentless fight against climate change. This brilliant artwork, in its thematic exploration and socio-political impact, is a testament to Fairey's role as a critical commentator in the realm of street and pop art.

Cryptik Illuminatum Serigraph Print by Cryptik

Illuminatum Split Fountain Serigraph Print by Cryptik Fluorescent UV Reactive Ink Limited Edition Hand Pulled Artwork on Cotton Rag Fine Art Paper Modern Street Graffiti Pop Artist. 2023 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 130 Artwork Size 18x24 "The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental." ~ The Kybalion The art world, filled with diverse creativity, is constantly evolving, and one genre that's been garnering substantial attention in recent years is the intertwining of pop art, street art, and graffiti art. A particularly captivating example of this fusion is the "Illuminatum Split Fountain" serigraph print by Cryptik, a modern artist renowned for integrating these genres. Notably, this work transcends the boundaries of traditional artistry, embodying both aesthetic brilliance and innovative technique. Cryptik's Illuminatum Split Fountain is a 2023 limited edition, signed and numbered serigraph print, with a limited run of 130 pieces. The artist's commitment to exclusivity is a nod to the broader street art culture, which prides itself on the uniqueness and temporality of its works. Each piece measures 18x24, providing ample canvas for Cryptik's intricate design work. In line with the spirit of authenticity in street art, these prints are hand-pulled, a time-honored method that adds an unparalleled layer of texture and depth to each piece. One striking element of this print is its use of fluorescent UV reactive ink, a testament to Cryptik's desire to push artistic boundaries. When exposed to UV light, the artwork transforms, revealing hidden depth and complexity. This infusion of street art with elements of pop art and graffiti emphasizes the artist's revolutionary approach, seamlessly blending the vibrant, popular, and rebellious aspects of these genres. Adding to the artwork's uniqueness, Cryptik chose to print on cotton rag fine art paper. This selection isn't arbitrary; cotton rag is renowned for its longevity and high archival quality, ensuring that the artwork retains its vibrancy for generations. Its texture also adds a tactile element to the piece, creating an additional layer of sensory experience. An intriguing feature of Cryptik's Illuminatum Split Fountain is the quote inscribed within, "The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental," borrowed from the philosophical text, The Kybalion. This integration of profound thought into visual artistry is a characteristic trait of Cryptik's work, reflecting the artist's commitment to sparking intellectual discourse through his art. The quote resonates with the vibrant and transformative nature of the artwork, suggesting a broader commentary on the power of perception and the mind's role in shaping reality. The Illuminatum Split Fountain serigraph print is a compelling representation of modern art, blending the rebellious spirit of graffiti, the mass appeal of pop art, and the authenticity of street art. It is an innovative masterpiece by Cryptik, displaying not only his technical skill and creativity but also his ability to provoke thought and challenge conventional artistic norms. It exemplifies the potential of art to be more than just visually appealing – it is an impactful communication tool that reflects and influences societal perceptions and values.

Roger Gastman Anti-Graffiti Propaganda Case Study No.1 Archival Print by Roger Gastman

Anti-Graffiti Propaganda Case Study No.1 Limited Edition Archival Pigment Prints on 310gsm Fine Art Paper by Roger Gastman Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. "This piece continues within the Tools of Criminal Mischief series of spray paint cans and markers prints that I've been doing with 1xRun. I have a large collection of anti-graffiti paraphernalia: pamphlets, signs, pins, tee shirts, etc. This image was revisited and fine-tuned in 2013 but it's taken years and years of collecting and digging along with close friends sending me stuff. I am always on the hunt for more. A few years ago, Caleb Neelon and I wrote a book for Harper Collins, "The History of American Graffiti" and the endsheet patterns for that book were a collage of the items on this print. Whenever I give someone the book or they see it somewhere, they love the end sheet patterns and want to know more about it and how I got all of the items. I decided to open the files back up and add some color and re-envision the design to create a collage of the anti-graffiti propaganda. " - Roger Gastman

Text Type Words & Sayings

The Significance of Text in Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork

Text-type words and sayings have been integral to street pop art and graffiti artwork since their inception. The use of text in these art forms is as varied as the artists themselves, ranging from tags and stylized signatures of the graffiti artist to larger pieces of textual art that may encompass sayings, quotes, or social commentary. These textual elements often serve as a direct line of communication between the artist and the public, conveying messages that can be personal, political, or simply aesthetic. Incorporating text into street art can transform urban landscapes into canvases that question, provoke, and engage. Words become a visual tool, as important as color and form in conveying the artist's message. In pop art, text has been used to comment on consumer culture and media, often incorporating slogans and logos from advertising and comic books. On the other hand, street art often uses text to convey more subversive messages, directly challenging viewers to rethink their surroundings and the status quo.

Evolution of Textual Use in Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork

Over the decades, the use of text in street pop art and graffiti artwork has evolved significantly. Initially, graffiti was about visibility and presence, with artists tagging their names to mark territory. However, as the art form matured, so did the messages conveyed through text. Artists began to use words to express their opinions on social and political issues, tell stories, and make their voices heard on topics often overlooked or ignored in mainstream discourse. The typography used in street pop art is as diverse as the messages themselves. Artists choose fonts that reflect the tone and content of their words – aggressive, whimsical, somber, or ironic. The lettering is not merely a method of communication but an artistic expression. It can be intricate, calligraphic, blocky, bold, distorted, and abstract. The style chosen by the artist adds another layer of meaning to the words depicted.

Cultural Impact and Social Commentary

Text in street pop art and graffiti artwork often reflects the culture and issues of the times. This has been evident in various movements and historical moments, where artists have used textual art to address inequality, racial injustice, environmental concerns, and political upheaval. The words painted on walls can be powerful reminders of societal challenges, often becoming iconic symbols of resistance and solidarity. Furthermore, textual street art can create a sense of community and shared experience. Slogans and sayings on public walls can resonate with passersby, fostering a collective identity or shared purpose. This aspect of street pop art and graffiti artwork highlights its role not just as a visual spectacle but as a social catalyst and a means of community building.

Contemporary Trends and Future Directions

The intersection between street art, pop art, and digital text is becoming increasingly prominent in the digital age. Artists are experimenting with new technologies to incorporate text into their works innovatively. This includes using projections, digital screens, and even augmented reality, which allows for a dynamic interaction between the text, the artwork, and the viewer. As street pop art and graffiti artwork continue to gain recognition in art, the use of text in these mediums is also being reevaluated and celebrated. Galleries and exhibitions now often feature works that originated on city walls, bringing the streets' powerful messages and textual artistry to a new audience.
In conclusion, text-type words and sayings in street pop art and graffiti artwork serve as a bridge between the artist and the public, offering a direct and impactful mode of expression. These textual elements not only enhance the visual impact of the artwork but also deepen its meaning and potential to inspire change. As street art and pop art evolve, the creative use of text remains a vital and dynamic aspect of these vibrant art forms, continuing to challenge, engage, and inspire.
