Shepard Fairey- OBEY No Bees No Honey Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

No Bees No Honey Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on Cream Speckle Tone Paper by Shepard Fairey Rare Street Art OBEY Pop Artwork Artist. 2022 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 325 Artwork Size 18x24 Gold Metallic Ink "The Clash are my all-time favorite band and their frontman, Joe Strummer, is a hero of mine for his music, lyrics, wit, compassion for the underdog, and stance against injustice. To celebrate the release of JOE STRUMMER 002 and in honor of Joe’s 70th birthday, a limited edition print inspired by the Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros song, JOHNNY APPLESEED. Joe’s lyric “If you’re after getting the honey, then you don’t go killing all the bees” applies to lots of things, like mistreating factory workers, but for me the idea that bees are pollinators who are crucial to sustaining Earth’s fragile eco-systems is a powerful idea. I hope to honor Joe’s music and extend his ideas with my No Bees No Honey print. A portion of proceeds will go to the Joe Strummer Foundation." -Shepard Fairey The intersection of street art, pop art, and graffiti has often found its voice through artists who transcend the confines of traditional media to bring forth powerful messages. One such eminent figure in this realm is Shepard Fairey, known widely for his iconic designs and thought-provoking artistry. His piece, "No Bees No Honey," is a color hand-pulled limited edition silkscreen print that stands as a testament to Fairey's artistic prowess and his ability to interweave poignant messages with his art. Created on cream speckle tone paper, the print embodies a vibrant play of colors and is accentuated by gold metallic ink that gives it a unique touch. The allure of this piece, however, isn't just its visual appeal but also its rarity. With only 325 signed and numbered pieces available, it stands as a collector's item and a beacon of Fairey's dedication to his craft. Sized at 18x24, the artwork captures attention with its intricate details and the symbolic imagery it presents. What elevates this piece from merely being a work of art to a profound statement is the backstory that inspired it. The artwork draws its essence from the legacy of Joe Strummer, frontman of "The Clash" and a stalwart figure revered by Fairey. Strummer's dedication to justice, his compassion for the marginalized, and his undying spirit resonate deeply with Fairey, making him a consistent source of inspiration. The inception of "No Bees No Honey" can be traced back to a song by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros titled "JOHNNY APPLESEED." A line from this song, "If you’re after getting the honey, then you don’t go killing all the bees," serves as the driving philosophy behind Fairey's artwork. At a glance, this lyric speaks volumes about sustainability and the delicate balance of nature. By delving deeper, one recognizes its applicability to a myriad of societal issues, ranging from the exploitation of factory workers to the broader challenges faced by our ecosystem. The role of bees as indispensable pollinators, ensuring the continuation of life on Earth, is cleverly juxtaposed with Strummer's lyrics, creating an artwork that's as profound in its message as it is stunning in its design. Fairey's commitment to social causes and his admiration for Strummer converge in "No Bees No Honey," but they also manifest in tangible contributions. A part of the proceeds from this artwork is dedicated to the Joe Strummer Foundation, thereby furthering the cause and ensuring that art acts as a vehicle for positive change. In the world of contemporary art, pieces like "No Bees No Honey" remind us of the transformative power of creativity. Shepard Fairey's art is not just an aesthetic pleasure; it's a call to introspection, an invitation to ponder deeper societal issues, and a celebration of the indomitable spirit of figures like Joe Strummer.

  • They Say Raps Changed Dr Dre Snoop Dog AP Silkscreen Print by Mark Drew

Mark Drew They Say Raps Changed Dr Dre Snoop Dog AP Silkscreen Print by Mark Drew

They Say Raps Changed Dr. Dre Snoop Dog A.P. Silkscreen Print by Mark Drew Artist Proof Hand-Pulled Screen Print on Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Pop Street Artwork & Graffiti. A.P. Artist Proof 2019 Signed & A.P. Marked Limited Edition Run Artwork Size 17.01x10.98 Mark Drew They Say Rap’s Changed Dr. Dre Snoop Dogg AP Silkscreen Print They Say Rap’s Changed by Mark Drew is a hand-pulled silkscreen print that merges classic comic strip imagery with foundational hip hop lyricism, positioning it firmly within Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork. The composition features the familiar Peanuts character Snoopy standing in front of a newsstand, holding a newspaper beneath a caption that reads They say rap’s changed. The phrase references the Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg track Still D.R.E., a pivotal release that reaffirmed West Coast hip hop identity at the end of the 1990s. By inserting iconic rap lyrics into the visual language of mid-century American comics, Drew constructs a layered dialogue between nostalgia, cultural evolution, and musical legacy. Mark Drew is an Australian artist known for recontextualizing vintage comic imagery with hip hop text, creating works that explore memory, cultural shifts, and generational identity. He remains active and continues to produce limited edition prints and original works. His practice is built on the collision of seemingly innocent cartoon scenes with lyrical excerpts drawn from rap history, often selecting lines that address authenticity, change, and perseverance. Within Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork, this method functions as both homage and commentary, emphasizing how hip hop culture has matured while retaining its foundational voice. The specific lyrical reference to Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg underscores a moment when critics questioned the direction of rap music. Rather than rejecting evolution, the original song reasserted consistency and influence. Drew’s visual pairing amplifies that tension through irony, placing a globally recognized cartoon dog within a conversation about cultural credibility and artistic longevity. The clean black line work and selective color application mirror the simplicity of traditional comic printing, while the screen-printed format reinforces the connection to street poster culture and DIY production methods. This 2019 artist proof edition, signed and marked AP, holds particular appeal for collectors. Artist proofs are produced in limited quantities separate from the main numbered run, often retained by the artist, and are valued for their scarcity. The 17.01 by 10.98 inch format provides ample white space around the central panel, framing the image in a way that echoes gallery presentation while preserving its graphic punch. As a piece of Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork, They Say Rap’s Changed captures the dialogue between past and present, comics and hip hop, innocence and commentary, making it a culturally resonant and collectible print rooted in both music history and visual subculture.

The etching into the paper shifts these color fields, creating a beautiful effect. Each one is unique. There is no way to convey this effect unless you see it in person. To try and show this effect, I posted a few images shot in shifting light." -Saber Exploring the Halo-Sunset HPM Giclee Print by Saber The Halo-Sunset HPM Giclee Print is a remarkable piece of Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork by the acclaimed street artist Saber, who hails from the United States. Known for his dynamic approach to street art, Saber has yet again presented a limited-edition piece that transcends the conventional boundaries of graffiti and pop art. This artwork is a fusion of traditional graffiti elements with contemporary pop culture aesthetics, encapsulating the vibrant energy of street art. Technique and Materiality in Saber's Work Saber's unique approach to his Halo-Sunset series involves meticulously using markers, ballpoint pens, and a scriber to etch into rainbow foil holographic fine art paper. This method allows him to manipulate the reflective qualities of the surface, creating a dynamic interaction with light. As one moves around the artwork, the perception of the sunset shifts, evoking the fleeting beauty of an actual sunset. The hand-etched lines intersect with the color fields, altering their appearance and producing a mesmerizing effect that is impossible to fully appreciate without witnessing the artwork in person. The limited edition of 35 prints, each measuring 8x10.5 inches, features hand-deckled edges, adding to the tactile experience of the painting. These hand-finished touches ensure that each piece remains distinct, highlighting the artist's involvement in creating every print. Moreover, the painting is signed and numbered on the back, with hand-tagged cardboard, certifying its authenticity and limited nature. The Impact of Light and Movement on Perception One of the most striking features of Saber's Halo-Sunset is its interaction with light. The holographic paper serves as a canvas and an active component of the artwork. Depending on the angle of observation and the lighting conditions, the colors change, and the etched lines capture and bend light in various ways. This interactive quality of the artwork invites viewers to engage with it actively, creating a personal connection as they experience the changing hues and textures. Saber has attempted to convey this effect through multiple images captured in shifting light, acknowledging the challenge of translating such a dynamic visual experience into static photographs. This aspect of his work stresses the importance of in-person engagement with art, especially in Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork, where the context and environment play crucial roles in the overall experience. Saber: The Artist Behind the Artwork Saber, whose real name remains a symbol of his roots in the underground graffiti world, has been a significant figure in the street art movement. His works have brought street art into the gallery while retaining its raw, visceral energy. Saber's contributions to the field have been acknowledged worldwide, and his pieces are often seen as cultural landmarks that capture the spirit of the times. This Halo-Sunset HPM Giclee Print is a testament to Saber's skill in manipulating both medium and message to reflect street art's vibrant and transient nature. Each print, a unique piece, carries the spirit of street art - immediate, vibrant, and ever-changing. It's a celebration of the medium's ability to adapt and thrive in various contexts, from the sides of trains to the walls of collectors' homes. In summary, Saber's Halo-Sunset HPM Giclee Print is not just a piece of art; it's an experience, a moment captured through the lens of a street artist's eye, transformed through his unique technique, and offered to the world as a limited treasure. • Filaments Owl Silkscreen Print by Andrew Ghrist

Andrew Ghrist Filaments Owl Silkscreen Print by Andrew Ghrist

Filaments Owl Silkscreen Print by Andrew Ghrist Hand-Pulled on Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Screenprint Artwork. 2013 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 70 Artwork Size 18x24 Silkscreen Print Filaments Owl Silkscreen Print by Andrew Ghrist Andrew Ghrist is widely recognized for his highly detailed and intricately composed works that merge nature, industrial elements, and surrealism. His 2013 silkscreen print, Filaments Owl, is a hand-pulled, limited edition print of 70, measuring 18x24 inches. This piece is a striking example of street pop art & graffiti artwork, blending the natural and mechanical worlds through highly technical linework and layered storytelling. Symbolism of the Owl and Filaments Owls have long been associated with wisdom, mystery, and the unseen forces of the night, making them an ideal subject in Ghrist’s visual lexicon. In Filaments Owl, the bird is rendered with astonishing detail, its feathers meticulously layered with fine lines and shading. However, the environment surrounding the owl is what gives this piece its surrealist edge. The creature is perched among industrial filaments, crystal formations, and tangled wires, hinting at a fusion of organic and mechanical elements. Filaments, particularly lightbulb filaments, are a recurring motif in urban street pop art & graffiti artwork, symbolizing ideas, innovation, and the spark of creativity. The contrast between the owl’s natural form and the manufactured light sources suggests an exploration of the intersection between wisdom and technology, a theme frequently examined in modern pop surrealist movements. Technique and Composition Ghrist’s work is known for its masterful use of line weight and contrast, and Filaments Owl is no exception. The intricate layering of organic textures and structured industrial forms demonstrates his control over screenprinting as a medium, pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with hand-pulled prints. The depth created through overlapping elements and refined shading makes the artwork feel almost three-dimensional. The monochromatic brown, gold, and sepia color palette enhances the aged, almost alchemical feel of the piece, making it resemble an ancient manuscript illustration mixed with urban decay elements. This muted yet bold aesthetic is characteristic of street pop art & graffiti artwork, where limited color palettes are often used to create high-contrast, visually arresting imagery. Street Art and Pop Art Influence Ghrist’s work fits seamlessly within street pop art & graffiti artwork, a movement that frequently blends hyper-detailed illustrations with themes of urban decay, nature, and industry. His line-intensive technique draws comparisons to classic etchings while incorporating modern street art aesthetics, resulting in a fusion of old-world craftsmanship and contemporary visual language. This piece could easily be imagined as a large-scale mural on an urban wall, where the juxtaposition of nature and industrialization resonates with themes of human expansion, environmental impact, and the delicate balance between progress and tradition. The inclusion of lightbulb filaments and power lines suggests a commentary on energy, knowledge, and how technology both illuminates and entangles the natural world. All are were made using pen, ink, and acrylic. My father was a B-26 pilot and my dad helped instill the interest in the subject. Two of the pieces feature a rock bass morphed with a B-26. These are completely different from what I normally do, whatever 'normal' means. Anyway, these were just a lot of fun to do. Whereas some of the intense pieces that I do I feel I have to do, as to purge it from my system, which works half the time (I tend to carry that stuff with me). I wanted to do these for fun and are a great distraction." - Derek Hess

Kraven Giclee Print by Mike Mitchell Kraven Giclee Print by Mike Mitchell: A Fusion of Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork Mike Mitchell’s Kraven Giclee Print is a striking example of his signature portraiture style, blending realism with bold character-driven illustration. Released in 2014 as a limited edition of 105, this 12"x16" giclee print captures the essence of Kraven the Hunter, a complex and legendary character known within comic book lore. The artwork was printed by Static Medium and is hand-numbered and signed by the artist, solidifying its status as a highly sought-after collectible in the world of Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork. Mitchell’s interpretation of Kraven is both powerful and restrained, depicting him in a stately profile that emphasizes his intensity and commanding presence. The detailed rendering of facial features, combined with the rich texture of Kraven’s fur-lined attire, highlights the artist’s ability to create dynamic portraits that feel both lifelike and cinematic. The piece exemplifies Mitchell’s talent for capturing the essence of iconic figures while reimagining them in a modern artistic context. The Intersection of Pop Culture and Fine Art Mike Mitchell’s body of work often revisits pop culture figures with an aesthetic that blends classic portraiture with contemporary themes. His Kraven print follows this tradition by presenting the character not as a mere comic book illustration, but as a dignified and deeply human figure. The muted tones and meticulous shading bring a painterly quality to the image, elevating it beyond traditional pop culture depictions. Kraven, known for his role as one of Spider-Man’s greatest adversaries, is often depicted in action-oriented poses. Mitchell, however, takes a different approach, portraying him in a moment of contemplation. This stylistic choice allows the viewer to see the character beyond his usual aggressive nature, lending him a level of depth that is rarely explored in mainstream portrayals. The choice to focus on Kraven’s profile further enhances this introspective quality, drawing attention to his sharp features and stoic demeanor. Technical Mastery and Artistic Precision Mitchell’s use of giclee printing ensures that the details of his digital and hand-rendered techniques are preserved with remarkable accuracy. Giclee prints are known for their high-resolution quality and rich color depth, making them a preferred medium for artists who want to maintain the integrity of their original work. The textures in the Kraven print, from the subtle gradations of skin tone to the fine details of fur and fabric, showcase Mitchell’s ability to manipulate light and shadow with precision. The artist’s attention to detail extends beyond the figure itself to the composition as a whole. The balanced framing, the deliberate use of negative space, and the carefully chosen color palette all contribute to the print’s sophisticated aesthetic. Each element is meticulously crafted to draw the viewer into the character’s world, making this piece more than just a pop culture homage—it becomes a work of fine art. The Impact of Mike Mitchell in Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork Mitchell has built a reputation for creating artwork that resonates across different artistic disciplines. His work is frequently celebrated in pop culture galleries, street art exhibitions, and the fine art print market, reflecting its broad appeal. His ability to bridge the gap between comic book iconography and high-end portraiture has cemented his place in the world of Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork. His Kraven print serves as a testament to his evolving artistic vision. By taking a well-known character and transforming him into a dignified, classical portrait, Mitchell challenges traditional representations of comic book figures. This approach has earned him recognition among art collectors and fans alike, ensuring that his work remains influential in both contemporary and counter-culture art movements. As one of the defining artists in modern pop culture art, Mitchell continues to push the boundaries of what Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork can be. His Kraven Giclee Print is a perfect encapsulation of his ability to merge nostalgia with artistic innovation, creating a piece that is both timeless and uniquely his own.

  • Sale -10% Queen In Blood Diamonds Negative Silkscreen Print by Jamie Reid

Jamie Reid Queen In Blood Diamonds Negative Silkscreen Print by Jamie Reid

Queen In Blood Diamonds Negative Silkscreen Print by Jamie Reid Hand-Pulled on Wove Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Artwork. 2020 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 250 Artwork Size 17x24.5 Silkscreen Print of Elizabeth II Queen of England In Demonic Style With Words "God Save Great Britain" Art Car Boot Fair Edition Queen In Blood Diamonds: Negative Silkscreen Print by Jamie Reid The Queen In Blood Diamonds silkscreen print by Jamie Reid, produced in 2020, is a provocative and thought-provoking example of street pop art. Measuring 17x24.5 inches, this limited edition artwork features a bold depiction of Queen Elizabeth II with demonic undertones and the message God Save Great Britain superimposed on her image. Reid, a British artist known for contributing to the punk movement, notably through his work with the Sex Pistols, continues his tradition of rebellious and politically charged artwork with this striking print. Limited to 250 signed and numbered editions, this piece exemplifies the blending of iconic symbols and social commentary defining street pop and graffiti art. The Queen and the Iconography of Power in Street Pop Art In this particular silkscreen, Reid aims at one of the most iconic figures of modern British history: Queen Elizabeth II. The queen has long symbolized British power, empire, and tradition. However, Reid's depiction is far from a respectful portrait. Instead, the queen's face is rendered in an almost demonic, grotesque style, with dark red and black tones accentuating the sinister undertones of the piece. The term Blood Diamonds in the title invokes the historical controversy surrounding the British Empire's involvement in exploiting colonial resources, often at the cost of human lives. Reid's work here critiques the monarchy's complicity in these injustices. The phrase God Save Great Britain in this context starkly contrasts the typical reverence shown toward the British monarchy. It evokes the infamous slogan God Save the Queen, which Jamie Reid first subverted in his earlier work with the Sex Pistols. His use of cut-out, ransom-note-style letters in this print creates an atmosphere of disruption, a common technique in street pop art and graffiti artwork. This approach challenges the viewer to question established narratives of national identity, power, and loyalty to the crown. Hand-Pulled Silkscreen: A Process of Rebellion The process of creating this limited edition piece further aligns with the ethos of street pop art and graffiti. Each print in this series is hand-pulled on fine art wove paper, meaning no two prints are identical. This manual technique adds a layer of authenticity and rawness to the artwork. In a world increasingly dominated by mass production, hand-pulled prints maintain a sense of individuality and craftsmanship, much like the street murals and graffiti tags found in urban environments. Reid's background in graphic design and political activism informs the aesthetic choices in this print. The silkscreen technique allows for bold, flat areas of color, which are characteristic of pop art. At the same time, the rough texture of the print, with its distressed quality, echoes the ephemeral nature of graffiti. The dark red splatters in the background evoke blood, reinforcing the message of imperial exploitation and violence. The contrast between the smooth, almost glossy appearance of the queen's face and the chaotic, gritty background symbolizes the disparity between the polished image of royalty and the harsh realities of history. Punk, Pop, and Political Street Art Jamie Reid's involvement with the punk movement is essential to understanding this piece's political and rebellious nature. In the late 1970s, his designs for the Sex Pistols, including the iconic God Save the Queen cover, used collage techniques, ransom-note typography, and defaced images of British symbols to protest against the establishment. The Queen In Blood Diamonds continues this legacy of punk subversion, where art serves as a form of resistance and provocation. This print also embodies the characteristics of street pop art and graffiti's confronaggressiveand use of public, recognizable symbols. As a figurehead of the establishment, the queen becomes a target for critique. Much like street art and graffiti, which often reclaim public spaces for the people, this print seeks to reclaim cultural symbols to question and dismantle the status quo. Reid's use of the queen in this manner invites viewers to rethink their assumptions about authority and tradition, much like graffiti artists challenge the sanitized spaces of the modern city. The demonic style in which Reid renders the queen's face can also be linked to the tradition of grotesque satire in British art, which dates back to artists like William Hogarth. By distorting the features of one of the most recognizable faces in the world, Reid transforms her from a symbol of stability and continuity into a symbol of corruption and complicconspiracytorical violence. The bright red splashes evoke the violence of bloodshed, while the grinning expression adds a layer of unsettling irony to the piece. Limited Edition and the Significance of the 2020 Release This limited edition of 250 prints was produced in 2020, a year marked by significant social and political upheaval worldwide. In the context of the global pandemic, rising protests against systemic racism, and increased scrutiny of historical injustices, Queen In Blood Diamonds becomes a powerful statement about the need to confront uncomfortable truths about history and power. The year 2020 also saw renewed debates over the legacy of colonialism, with many calling for greater accountability and reparations for the crimes committed in the name of empire. Reid's decision to produce this piece during such a turbulent time adds another layer of urgency to its message. By releasing this print in 2020, Reid ensures that the themes of exploitation, power, and resistance remain as relevant as ever. In this context, the queen is not just a historical figure but a symbol of the enduring structures of authority that continue to shape our world today. As with much of Reid's work, this piece is not merely a work of art but a call to action, a visual protest that demands a response from its audience. Queen In Blood Diamonds by Jamie Reid is a powerful example of street pop and graffiti artwork. It blends the iconic with the grotesque, using the figure of Queen Elizabeth II to critique the legacy of British imperialism and the ongoing injustices that stem from it. Through its hand-pulled silkscreen process, bold use of color, and politically charged imagery, the print stands as both a piece of art and a statement of defiance.

Created in a limited edition of 75, this 18x24-inch print is a testament to Grzeca’s ability to merge intricate linework with bold, expressive forms, making it a significant piece in street pop art & graffiti artwork. Intricate Linework and Metallic Accents Dan Grzeca’s signature cross-hatching and textured strokes are on full display in this piece, emphasizing depth, movement, and raw energy. The metallic ink application adds a layer of vibrancy, allowing the snowy owl’s feathers and form to shimmer against the dark background. This careful balance of light and shadow gives the print an ethereal quality, reinforcing the mystical and regal presence of the owl. The owl is depicted perched atop a weathered barn, a recurring theme in Grzeca’s work, which often explores rural landscapes, industrial decay, and nature’s endurance. The structure beneath the bird appears to be fragmented or reconstructed, suggesting themes of transformation, resilience, and adaptation—elements frequently found in street pop art & graffiti artwork that comment on the changing urban and rural landscapes. Symbolism and Natural Iconography The snowy owl is often associated with wisdom, mystery, and silent observation, making it a fitting subject for Grzeca’s raw and evocative artistic approach. His work consistently merges mythology, wildlife, and urban decay, creating a narrative that feels both timeless and contemporary. The way the owl looms over the barn, almost as if it is emerging from the structure, suggests a spiritual connection between nature and human-made environments. This print also aligns with the broader ethos of street pop art & graffiti artwork, where animals and natural symbols are frequently used to represent freedom, survival, and resistance against industrial encroachment. The juxtaposition of organic and man-made forms in this piece echoes themes found in urban murals, stencil graffiti, and print-based street art, reinforcing the idea that wildlife remains ever-present even as cities expand. Dan Grzeca’s Influence on Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork Grzeca’s printmaking style is deeply rooted in DIY aesthetics, a fundamental characteristic of street pop art & graffiti artwork. His dedication to hand-pulled silkscreen techniques, raw linework, and heavily textured compositions places him among artists who use printmaking as a powerful storytelling tool. The Reconstructed Snowy Owl print stands as a perfect example of his ability to merge intricate craftsmanship with urban expression, making it a sought-after piece among collectors and art enthusiasts. Through this work, Grzeca continues to push the boundaries of traditional screenprinting, proving that hand-crafted, limited-edition prints maintain their place in the evolving landscape of contemporary street pop art. Lister's decision to focus on the hands—the touch of the divine and the human—invites contemplation. The pixelated, almost digital rendition adds layers of modernity, suggesting the blending of time, from the renaissance to the digital age. The archival pigment used ensures the artwork's vibrancy remains unaltered over time, capturing the soft hues and stark contrasts in perpetuity. Rendered on a 300gsm hot press matte fine art paper, the texture of the canvas complements the artwork's digital essence, producing a tactile experience that contrasts with its pixelated visual. The limited-edition nature of the print, with only 50 signed and numbered pieces in existence, elevates its value, making it a sought-after piece for collectors. Adam Lister's 'Hands Archival Print' transcends conventional art boundaries. By juxtaposing ancient art with modern techniques, Lister paves the way for discussions on the evolving nature of art, human connection, and the digital transformation that shapes our perception of both.

  • The Empresses- H10-5 Taytu Betul Aluminum Giclee by Damien Hirst

Damien Hirst The Empresses- H10-5 Taytu Betul Aluminum Giclee by Damien Hirst

The Empresses- H10-5 Taytu Betul Pop Street Artwork Limited Edition Giclee & Giltter Screenprint Print on Aluminum Sheet by Urban Graffiti Modern Artist Damien Hirst. 2022 Signed & Numbered In Verso on Label Limited Edition of 2814 Artwork Size 39.37x39.37 Giclee & Giltter Screenprint Print on Aluminum Sheet The Essence of Empress Taytu Betul in Modern Street Pop Art Taytu Betul is a captivating composition filled with a thrilling sense of velocity and motion, inspired by the formidable Ethiopian Empress. When she married Emperor Menelik in 1889, Taytu Betul (c. 1851-1918) became the Empress of Ethiopia, known for her active leadership and unwavering opposition to imperialism. She staunchly refused negotiations that would lead to the loss of Ethiopian territory. Taytu Betul also established Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital city, today. The artwork's focal point is the striking pairs of red and black wings that form the foundation of the composition - a spiral that originates at the center and expands outward, seemingly beyond the picture plane. The energy and movement generated in the piece reflect the enthusiasm and commitment of Taytu Betul, who led her army to protect their borders. Complementing the central wings, an array of differently sized, colored, and patterned wings create a secondary layer that accentuates the main action. Taytu Betul distinguishes itself in the series with its spirited attempt to portray butterflies in their authentic, living state. The composition evokes an aerial perspective, enabling viewers to gaze down upon the swarm of butterflies as their momentum is captured in the spiral and the dynamic unfolding of the artwork. The art world continually evolves, creating compelling narratives through bold expressions and innovative mediums. One such narrative is the "Empresses- H10-5 Taytu Betul," an extraordinary Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork by the renowned British artist Damien Hirst. Born in 1965 in Bristol, England, Hirst has become one of the most prominent figures in contemporary art, known for his provocative and often controversial pieces. His work on aluminum sheets using giclee and glitter screenprint techniques brings a shimmering vitality to the story of Empress Taytu Betul, a formidable figure in Ethiopian history. Empress Taytu Betul: A Historical Figure Reimagined Taytu Betul, born around 1851 and passing in 1918, was more than just royalty; she was a visionary and a warrior. As the wife of Emperor Menelik II, she ascended to become the Empress of Ethiopia in 1889. Her tenure was marked by a fierce resistance to colonial encroachment and a strategic understanding that contributed to establishing Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's vibrant capital. Hirst's artwork, limited to 2814 pieces and signed and numbered in verso on the label, celebrates her legacy in a format that transcends traditional portraiture. The size of each piece, 39.37x39.37 inches, provides a vast landscape for the visual story to unfold. The Empresses- H10-5 Taytu Betul is a testament to Hirst's ability to encapsulate the essence of a historical figure within the realms of Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork. The choice of medium is significant; the aluminum sheet lends a contemporary edge, while the giclee and glitter screenprint add texture and depth. In this piece, the central motif of red and black wings is not random; it symbolizes the power and grace of the empress, with the spiral starting from the center representing her influence radiating outward. This artwork is more than a static image; it's an active experience. The depiction of the wings in various sizes, colors, and patterns is reminiscent of the diversity of life and the complexity of Taytu Betul's reign. The artwork thrives on the illusion of motion, suggesting the empress's undying spirit and her relentless pursuit of Ethiopian sovereignty. Damien Hirst's work captures the viewer's imagination, inviting them to explore the layers and the historical depth embedded within the vibrant spirals of wings. The Empresses- H10-5 Taytu Betul by Damien Hirst is a sophisticated collision of history and modern art. It brings forth the spirit of a bygone era through the lens of contemporary Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork. This limited edition piece serves as an aesthetic artifact and a historical dialogue, connecting the past with the present and projecting the legacy of a remarkable figure through the universal language of art.

Street Art Pop Art & Graffiti Art

Today, graffiti is undergoing extreme institutionalization and commercialization, and the previously used "writer" tends to be replaced by the term "street artist." No matter these differences, though, one of the elements that have remained intact since the 1960s is the motivation of the artists to reach as many people as possible, whether this is realized on the streets or through museum exhibitions. From this aspect, street art is thriving more vigorously than ever and has gained the public's and critics' respect, who no longer treat it as outsider art. At the same time, the artist has gained recognition, and their art is worth millions of dollars. In other words, whether one focuses on commercializing street art as proof of degeneration and decay or as a revolutionary art still progressing and spreading social emancipation and activism is up for debate. Whatever opinion one has, in the end, graffiti is a vivid part of our culture, and it continues to be present not only in the art we consume but also in the advertisements we see, the clothes we wear, and, still, the streets we walk. Graffiti street art involves creating visual expressions or messages on public surfaces, such as walls, sidewalks, and buildings, using various mediums like spray paint, markers, and stencils. This art form has gained popularity over the years and has become a means for artists to express themselves and convey messages to the public. Graffiti street art can be seen as a form of rebellion against the norm, as it challenges the traditional idea of what art is supposed to be and where it belongs. Graffiti artists are often self-taught and use their unique style to create artwork. This style can range from abstract designs to intricate portraits and can be done in various colors and mediums. Many graffiti artists use their artwork to express political or social messages, often drawing attention to poverty, inequality, and racism. This art form has been used to promote societal awareness and change, often serving as a voice for the marginalized and underrepresented. However, graffiti street art is only sometimes embraced by society. Some view it as vandalism and destruction of property, leading to legal consequences for the artists. Graffiti artists often face criticism for their work, and some argue that it can contribute to urban blight and decrease property values. Despite the controversies surrounding graffiti street art, its popularity has continued to grow. Many cities have designated areas where graffiti artists can legally create their artwork, often as part of an effort to promote public art and beautify public spaces. Additionally, many galleries and museums now showcase graffiti street art, recognizing it as a legitimate art form. In conclusion, graffiti street art is a unique form of public art that has gained popularity for artists to express themselves and convey important messages. While it may face criticism from some, it has also been recognized and celebrated as a legitimate art form by many.

The Evolution of Graffiti Art and Prints in the Art Market

The trajectory of graffiti art and prints within the art market is a narrative of burgeoning acceptance and rising prestige. Once relegated to the fringes of the art world, the value and demand for works within the graffiti and street pop art sphere have seen a dramatic shift. The journey from the clandestine corners of urban landscapes to the polished floors of high-end galleries and auction houses is a testament to the changing perceptions and appetite for this once-underground art form. Graffiti art, rooted in the subversive countercultures of the 1960s and 70s, was initially viewed through a lens of illegality and vandalism. Artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, who started as SAMO© tagging buildings in New York, laid the groundwork for graffiti's entry into the art market. His evolution from a street artist to a darling of the art world in the 1980s marked a significant turning point. His work's raw, unfiltered energy captured the era's zeitgeist, leading to a growing collector base and setting the stage for future artists to break through the market. As the 90s and early 2000s approached, graffiti began to gain traction as a legitimate form of artistic expression. Galleries started to notice, and the first wave of collectors began to see beyond the art's controversial origins. Graffiti prints, easily distributable and collectible, became a means for artists to monetize their work without compromising their street-level ethos. This period saw a gradual shift in mindset, with graffiti art and prints becoming coveted items for contemporary art collectors.

The Current Market: A Flourishing Scene for Street Pop Art and Graffiti

The current market for street pop art and graffiti is vibrant and diverse. Once hesitant to engage with graffiti artists, auction houses like Sotheby's and Christie's now regularly feature their works, recognizing their cultural significance and investment potential. The proliferation of online platforms and social media has also democratized access to graffiti art, enabling artists to reach global audiences and sell their prints directly to enthusiasts and collectors. Today's market is characterized by its inclusivity, with collectors ranging from seasoned art investors to young fans eager to own a piece of the urban zeitgeist. Notably, the emergence of art fairs dedicated to street art and graffiti has played a crucial role in cementing the status of these artworks. Events such as the Beyond the Streets exhibition have showcased the historical significance and breadth of talent within the graffiti art community, further validating its place in the art market. The future graffiti art and print market appears robust, with indicators pointing to continued growth and innovation. Integrating digital technology, such as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), opens new avenues for graffiti artists to explore and monetize their work. As the digital art market expands, graffiti art is poised to benefit from its inherently graphic and translatable nature, allowing it to move seamlessly between physical and digital spaces. Furthermore, the narrative of graffiti art is expanding to include social and political commentary, elevating its role from an aesthetic disruptor to a poignant voice in societal discourse. This evolution ensures that graffiti art remains relevant and reflects contemporary issues, which fuels its desirability and market value. The graffiti art and print market has come far from its underground beginnings. It now stands as a dynamic and integral part of the contemporary art world, with a bright and promising future. As long as cities have walls and artists have the drive to create, the legacy and economy of graffiti art will continue to thrive and push the boundaries of what is possible in the art world.

Graffiti Art: A Vibrant Aspect of Street Pop Art

Graffiti Art, often synonymous with Street Pop Art, represents a dynamic and vibrant artistic expression that has evolved significantly over the years. Initially perceived as vandalism, graffiti has transcended its controversial beginnings to become a respected and influential aspect of contemporary art. Graffiti artists use city walls, subways, and public spaces as their canvases, bringing color and social commentary to urban landscapes. This art form is characterized by its bold and striking imagery, often featuring stylized lettering and graphic illustrations. The raw, spontaneous nature of graffiti art reflects the artists' desire for self-expression and connection to the streets, making it an authentic representation of urban life. Graffiti Art Prints: Bringing Street Art Indoors As graffiti art gained recognition, the demand for graffiti art prints surged, allowing this outdoor art form to be appreciated in indoor spaces. Graffiti art prints are high-quality reproductions of original street art, often created by photographing the artwork and then printing it on various materials like canvas, paper, or metal. These prints enable art enthusiasts to own a piece of street culture without altering or damaging the original works. Graffiti art prints are popular among collectors and serve as an accessible way for the general public to engage with street art. They capture the essence of the original graffiti while offering versatility and the convenience of being displayed in personal or professional spaces. Graffiti Original Art: Authentic Expressions of Urban Culture Graffiti original art is the work created directly by the artists, typically on public surfaces. These original pieces are considered more valuable due to their authenticity and the artist's direct involvement. Graffiti original art often carries significant cultural and social messages, reflecting the artists' thoughts, aspirations, frustrations, and communities they represent. These works' spontaneous and impermanent nature adds to their appeal, as many are eventually painted over or destroyed, making existing pieces rare and sought-after. Collecting original graffiti art is not only about owning a unique piece of art; it's also about preserving a moment in the ever-changing landscape of urban culture.
