  • Devilman Silkscreen Print by Mike Sutfin

Mike Sutfin Devilman Silkscreen Print by Mike Sutfin

Devilman Limited Edition 9-Color Hand-Pulled Silkscreen Print on Fine Art Paper by Mike Sutfin, Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 2015 Limited Edition of 300 Artwork measuring 18" x 24", these prints needed eight screens and nine colors to capture their vibrancy on the 100# c stock French Pop-Tone Berrylicious paper used, and the back view of the character is printed on the reverse side of the print. Mike Sutfin's Devilman: A Symphony of Color and Chaos The "Devilman" limited edition silkscreen print by Mike Sutfin is a formidable example of how street pop art and graffiti artwork can bring together vibrancy, intensity, and a touch of the macabre. This 2015 piece, a limited edition of 300, captures the essence of its subject matter through a stunning 9-color palette applied via eight screens onto 100# c stock French Pop-Tone Berrylicious paper. Measuring 18x24 inches, the artwork showcases Sutfin's mastery in a modern pop art context, providing a fiery representation of the titular character with a complexity that demands attention. The Artistic Process Behind Devil man's Creation The creation of "Devilman" is a testament to the meticulous silkscreen printing process. The requirement of 8 screens for the nine colors used in the piece illustrates the intricate layering process that imbues the artwork with depth and dynamism. The process is detailed, requiring precision and a keen eye for detail to ensure that each layer of color sits perfectly upon the last, building up to create the final arresting image. This technique, while traditional in its roots, is brought to life in a new way through Sutfin's skillful hands, blending the boundaries between street art and fine art. Interpreting Devilman: Street Pop Art Meets Mythology Sutfin's "Devilman" is more than a visual spectacle; it explores mythology, character design, and the eternal dance between good and evil. The figure stands amidst flames, a visual nod to the hellish realms often associated with devils and demons. Yet, the character is not merely a representation of evil. The complexity of the image, with its vibrant colors and detailed linework, suggests a narrative that goes beyond the binary of good versus evil. It speaks to the inner battles that rage within, the fiery potential for destruction and rebirth in every individual. The decision to print a back view of the character on the reverse side of the print adds a layer of depth to the artwork, inviting viewers to consider the many sides of the character – and themselves. This duality is a common theme in street pop art, where the surface image often belies a more profound story waiting to be uncovered by those who look closely enough. Mike Sutfin's "Devilman" is a powerful example of modern pop art's ability to combine traditional techniques with contemporary themes. The artwork stands as a beacon within the genre, showcasing how street pop art and graffiti can transcend their urban origins to enter the realm of collectible fine art. Through works like "Devilman," artists like Sutfin continue to push the boundaries of street art while also honoring the rich, colorful, and sometimes dark stories that have always been at the heart of human expression.

Askew One Diaspora Ono Original Enamel Acrylic Painting by Askew One

Diaspora Ono Original Painting Enamel and Acrylic on Plexiglass by Askew One Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 2015 Signed Original Painting Artwork Size 20x14 Custom Framed "Back in April/May of 2014, I spent around 6 weeks based in Los Angeles making these paintings for my solo show at Known Gallery. I was living and working above the TSL store, trying my best to make enough work to fill the space which was a pretty daunting task. The pieces themselves are a combination of head portraits painted in what I would say are my signature style and then also a series of smaller abstract works that signify the idea of migration through the Pacific, both in a historic and recent sense. The model for the portraits was my friend Sereima aka Stelly, who’s Sydney-based and of Fijian descent. To me, she really represents the changing face of the Pacific in many ways. Following on from a really successful show in Sydney, ‘The Evolving Face’ I wanted to move away from the mugshot poses of the previous body and bring more attitude and exuberance and Sereima was perfect because she is the absolute embodiment of those things." - Askew Diaspora Ono Original Painting by Askew One Diaspora Ono is a striking original painting created in 2015 by renowned graffiti and Street Pop Art artist Askew One. Using enamel and acrylic on plexiglass, this piece exemplifies Askew One’s ability to merge abstract forms and bold color palettes with deeply meaningful narratives. Custom framed and measuring 20x14, the painting stands as a testament to the artist’s ability to explore themes of cultural identity and migration through his unique artistic lens. The Context and Inspiration Behind Diaspora Ono Diaspora Ono was part of a larger body of work created during Askew One’s time in Los Angeles while preparing for his solo show at Known Gallery. The piece is reflective of the themes explored throughout the exhibition, particularly the concept of migration across the Pacific. Askew One delves into both historic and contemporary movements of people and ideas, creating visual metaphors that resonate with the complexities of cultural exchange. The series, which included both abstract pieces and portraits, featured models such as Sereima, a friend of the artist and a representation of the modern Pacific identity. Her Fijian descent and dynamic presence were key influences, inspiring Askew One to move away from traditional portraiture and capture energy, exuberance, and transformation. Diaspora Ono, while abstract, carries this spirit of migration and evolution through its vibrant colors and intricate layering. The Artistic Style of Askew One Askew One’s work is known for its fusion of graffiti influences with fine art sensibilities, and Diaspora Ono is no exception. The use of enamel and acrylic on plexiglass creates a sleek, reflective surface that amplifies the vibrancy of the colors. The bold lines, dynamic patterns, and textured details evoke the movement of waves, winds, and cultural exchanges that define the Pacific diaspora. The circular composition of the painting draws the viewer’s eye inward, symbolizing a continuous cycle of migration and connection. Askew One’s signature approach to Street Pop Art is evident in the interplay of abstraction and meaning. By combining the raw energy of graffiti with a polished, modern aesthetic, the artist elevates the medium while remaining true to its urban roots. Diaspora Ono exemplifies his ability to transform everyday materials into powerful storytelling tools, bridging the gap between the personal and the universal. The Significance of Diaspora Ono in Street Pop Art Diaspora Ono is a significant work within the Street Pop Art movement, as it highlights the role of urban art in addressing global and cultural issues. Through its abstract design and vibrant colors, the painting captures the fluidity and complexity of identity in a world shaped by migration. It reflects Askew One’s deep connection to his Pacific heritage while engaging with broader conversations about cultural exchange and transformation. This original painting, part of an influential series created during a pivotal moment in Askew One’s career, demonstrates the artist’s versatility and dedication to pushing the boundaries of graffiti and Street Pop Art. Diaspora Ono is not only a visual celebration of movement and identity but also a powerful reminder of the interconnectedness of people and places. It remains an essential piece for collectors and admirers of contemporary urban art.

Following on from a really successful show in Sydney, ‘The Evolving Face’ I wanted to move away from the mugshot poses of the previous body and bring more attitude and exuberance and Sereima was perfect because she is the absolute embodiment of those things." - Askew One Diaspora Rua Original Painting by Askew One Diaspora Rua is a captivating 2015 original painting by renowned graffiti and Street Pop Art artist Askew One. Created using enamel and acrylic on plexiglass, this piece showcases Askew One’s ability to combine bold abstraction with cultural commentary. Custom framed and measuring 20x14, this signed artwork forms part of a series that explores themes of migration and identity in the Pacific. The work’s intricate layering and dynamic patterns make it a striking example of Askew One’s innovative approach to modern pop art. The Concept Behind Diaspora Rua Diaspora Rua was conceived during a significant period in Askew One’s career, while he was preparing for a solo exhibition at Known Gallery in Los Angeles. Spending six weeks immersed in the creative process, Askew One developed a series that blended head portraits and abstract works. This series reflects the idea of migration across the Pacific, both from a historical and contemporary perspective. Diaspora Rua, as part of the abstract works in this series, signifies the movement of people and cultures, using bold shapes and vivid colors to convey the fluidity and energy of migration. The series draws inspiration from Sereima, a Sydney-based model of Fijian descent, who represents the evolving identity of the Pacific. Her energy and cultural background informed much of the work, embodying the intersection of traditional and modern influences. Askew One’s shift away from mugshot-style portraits to more dynamic compositions reflects his desire to capture not only the visual aspects of identity but also its inherent vibrancy and transformation. Artistic Techniques in Diaspora Rua Diaspora Rua exemplifies Askew One’s mastery of combining graffiti-inspired techniques with refined artistic practices. The use of enamel and acrylic on plexiglass creates a sleek, glossy finish that enhances the vibrancy of the colors. The circular design within the painting draws the viewer’s attention inward, evoking a sense of motion and connection. The layering of shapes and patterns, along with the contrast of neon hues against black, creates a compelling visual narrative. This work is emblematic of Street Pop Art’s ability to transform everyday materials into fine art. The influence of graffiti is evident in the bold lines and spontaneous energy of the composition, while the meticulous execution speaks to Askew One’s dedication to craftsmanship. The abstract nature of Diaspora Rua allows it to transcend literal representation, engaging viewers in a deeper exploration of its themes. The Cultural Significance of Diaspora Rua Diaspora Rua stands as a testament to Askew One’s commitment to using art as a means of storytelling and cultural preservation. Through its abstract forms and vibrant colors, the painting captures the spirit of migration and the interconnectedness of cultures in the Pacific. It reflects the evolving identity of the region, celebrating its history while embracing its modern, dynamic nature. As part of a pivotal series in Askew One’s career, Diaspora Rua highlights the artist’s ability to merge personal narrative with broader cultural themes. Its combination of bold aesthetics and meaningful content ensures its place as a significant piece within contemporary Street Pop Art. For collectors and admirers of urban art, this painting represents not only a masterful work of creativity but also a powerful commentary on the fluidity of identity and the beauty of cultural exchange.

Shepard Fairey (b. 1970) Dirty South Dance, 2007 Screenprint in colors on speckled cream paper 24 x 18 inches (61 x 45.7 cm) (sheet) Ed. 300 Signed, numbered, and dated in pencil along lower edge Published by Obey Giant, Los Angeles Dirty South Dance Silkscreen Print is a piece of artwork created by Shepard Fairey, the American contemporary street artist, graphic designer, and activist best known for his "OBEY Giant" and Barack Obama "HOPE" campaigns. Fairey's artwork is often characterized by its bold and thought-provoking imagery, combining elements of graffiti, pop art, and political activism. The Dirty South Dance Silkscreen Print is part of Fairey's OBEY series, which is derived from the "OBEY Giant" sticker campaign he started in 1989. The series aims to promote critical thinking and question societal norms, government control, and the influence of media and advertising on our lives. The Dirty South Dance print may feature Fairey's signature style, including bold colors, striking design elements, and a mix of typography and imagery. The piece may focus on the "Dirty South" music scene, which refers to a subgenre of hip-hop that originated in the southern United States, particularly in cities like Atlanta, Houston, and New Orleans. The artwork may attempt to capture the spirit of the music, its artists, and the culture surrounding it while also incorporating Fairey's sociopolitical messages. As a silkscreen print, the Dirty South Dance artwork would have been created using a stencil-based printmaking technique in which ink is pushed through a mesh screen to transfer the design onto paper or canvas. This process allows for the production of multiple copies, each considered an original print, and is a popular method for creating street art and posters. Collectors and fans of Shepard Fairey's work may be interested in acquiring the Dirty South Dance Silkscreen Print for its unique design and strong cultural commentary.

Cleon Peterson Divided We Stand, United We Fall Silkscreen Print by Cleon Peterson

Divided We Stand, United We Fall Hand-Pulled 2-Color Silkscreen Print on Hand Deckled 290gsm Coventry Rag Paper by Artist Cleon Peterson Limited Edition Pop Art Artwork. 2022 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of XXX Artwork Size 18x24 "The TRUTH image ran in the New York Times right before the election in the opinion feature, What Have We Lost. The Devil Made Me Do it & Divided We Stand, United We Fall were both made on January 6th in response to the Faustian bargain that Trump and his accomplices made in designing the coup. Today we find ourselves at a crossroads; now, more than ever, is the time we need to come together, take a stand, exercise our voices, and fight for Truth and Democracy. Hopefully, daylight will cast off this right-wing authoritarian spell. I see these posters as markers of a historical time and feel a duty within to share my views. We’re all exhausted by politics, but we must embrace the moment and take action because the threat is fundamental; our democracy could be gone in the blink of an eye." - Cleon Peterson The connection of Peterson with street art is also an aspect of his work worth mentioning. Even though he has created numerous murals all over the world, the artist himself does consider himself a street artist: “I don’t think of myself as a street artist or somebody that does work in that vein, but I love the idea of doing large paintings that confront people.”. This is revealing of his motivation to make his art as accessible as possible, as a way to invite the viewers to interact with it and confront the subjects the artist is interested in addressing. This brings up the following questions concerning the art of Peterson: “What is the meaning of it? Does it have a meaning after all? If yes, is this pre-determined by the artist? In order to better understand the way meaning is created in the world of Cleon Peterson, it is essential to, primarily, understand the way he perceives the media as a field of allegations, unbased rumors, suppositions and outright lies. In the world that the artist has created and, in correlation with our own reality, media is a tool of manipulation in the hands of politicians, leaving us helpless and in the mercy of an exploitative authoritarian system.
