Each piece for this run was individually screen printed and hand-painted using a variety of acrylic and other mediums. 1919- Pelican Tombs- Pennsylvania 2009 Music Limited Edition Gig Poster 4-Color Hand-Pulled Silkscreen Print Artwork on Fine Art Paper by Justin Anville. 2019 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition Gig Music Poster Artwork Size 18x24. 919, Pelican Tombs, Music, Event, Theatre of Living Arts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, June 3rd 2009, Live Nation The Synthesis of Music and Street Pop Art The convergence of music and visual arts often produces memorabilia that transcends the moment of its creation, embedding itself in the cultural fabric of a time and place. Such is the case with the limited edition gig poster for the event featuring "1919" and "Pelican Tombs" held at the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on June 3rd, 2009. This striking piece of street pop art and graffiti artwork is a celebration of both the bands and the evocative power of graphic design within the realm of music. This limited edition gig poster is more than just a promotional tool; it is a collectible artwork that reflects the vibrancy and raw energy of the musical acts it represents. Created by the artist Justin Anville, the print is a four-color, hand-pulled silkscreen on fine art paper, a technique that lends the artwork a tactile quality that is both immediate and engaging. The choice of silkscreen printing, a favored method in both street art and pop art for its bold colors and sharp lines, allows the piece to stand out with a visual pop that mirrors the intensity of the live music experience. Visual Elements and Artistic Significance The artwork commands attention with its intricate design and contrasting color palette, which features a dominant red against a backdrop of more subdued tones. At the center, the stylized numerals "1919" are prominently displayed, intertwined with symbolic imagery that suggests a narrative extending beyond the bands' names. This typographic treatment is reminiscent of graffiti art, where letters become an integral part of the visual impact, often carrying meaning in their form as much as in their content. Cultural Imprint of the 2009 Event Poster Limited to a signed and numbered edition, the poster carries with it an aura of exclusivity. Measuring 18x24 inches, it is a sizable piece that was designed to be noticed, to be a talking point, and ultimately, to be remembered. As a piece of memorabilia, it serves as a timestamp, capturing the cultural zeitgeist of the late 2000s Philadelphia music scene, a period marked by a resurgence in indie and alternative genres. The inclusion of the Live Nation brand also signifies the commercial and mainstream acknowledgment of the genres and bands, hinting at their movement from the fringes into the spotlight. The Legacy of Gig Posters in Street Pop Art The significance of gig posters like this one extends beyond the night of the event itself. They are artifacts of cultural history, capturing the essence of musical movements and the artistic styles that accompany them. In the broader context of street pop art and graffiti artwork, gig posters are often the crossroads where music and visual art fans meet, share, and appreciate the interplay between these forms of expression. This particular poster, with its bold aesthetic and connection to a specific time and place, is a perfect illustration of how street art and music can come together to create something enduring. In the ever-evolving dialogue between music and visual arts, the 2009 limited edition gig poster for "1919" and "Pelican Tombs" stands as a testament to the power of this collaboration. It is not just a promotional item; it is a snapshot of a scene, a piece of street pop art, and a collectible that holds within its inks and paper the echoes of a night of music and the spirit of its time.

These limited-edition prints bridge the gritty beginnings of hip-hop in the streets and its current status as a dominant cultural force. The "4 Elements of Hip Hop" archival print by BG183 embodies the pulsating energy of hip-hop and its indelible imprint on street pop art and graffiti artwork. As a piece of modern art, it stands at the crossroads of past and present, offering a visual narrative that is both timeless and immediate. Scott Grooves 808 Silkscreen Print by Scott Grooves

808 Limited Edition 4-Color Hand-Pulled Silkscreen Print on Fine Art Paper by Scott Grooves Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. “This piece is inspired by the 808 drum machine, and while the average person looking at this piece may not know this, that's ok with me. I kinda like the esoteric approach with my works. That’s why sometimes it takes me a long period of time to come up with something new.The idea came about because I have always liked the 808 drum machine’s buttons. So my graphics guy Barry and I sat down one day and hashed this out together. I had been talking about a clock the previous week so he said ‘what about a clock’ then I added let’s make the time coincide with the name of the drum machine, and everything fell into place perfectly.I’m not one for the obvious, but I do like simplicity with some wit. The piece was originally created in 2013 as a wearable art piece, but this is my first art print ever offered to the public, and I hope people see that art and time can coexist and be pleasing to the eye.” - Scott Grooves

Alice Bag 3-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on Fine Speckletone Art Paper by Shepard Fairey x Melanie Nissen Rare Street Art OBEY Pop Artwork Artist. 2022 Signed by Shepard Fairey & Melanie Nissen, Numbered 18x24 inches. Screenprint on thick cream Speckletone paper. Numbered edition of 550. "I was very excited to meet and collaborate with Melanie Nissen because, as co-founder of Slash magazine, she photographed some of the most important figures and moments in the early LA punk scene—a scene that dramatically impacted me as a creative person. Nissen’s new book of her punk photos from 1977-1980, Hard+Fast, is beautifully designed and full of amazing images. After some serious deliberation, I decided I’d like to make an illustration of Alice Bag. I first encountered Alice Bag as a teen in Penelope Spheeris’ documentary “The Decline of Western Civilization,” but The Bags did not put out a lot of music, and it was hard to find. However, in reading books about the LA punk scene like “We Got The Neutron Bomb” and “Lexicon Devil,” as well as the Slash magazine book, I realized that Alice was a very important figure in the LA scene who has continued to make great music and is an outspoken champion of LatinX and feminist causes. She’s also a very nice person. I’m glad to celebrate Alice for her contributions to culture then and now. If you are unfamiliar with The Bags, I’d recommend picking up “All Bagged Up… The Collected Works 1977-1980.” – Shepard

Antiseen Shiv Stepsister Zen Guerilla 1995 Cleveland Ohio Silkscreen Print by Frank Kozik Hand-Pulled on Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Pop Street Art Artwork. 1995 Signed by Kozik & Numbered Limited Edition of 650 Artwork Size 18x23 Silkscreen Print Band Gig Poster by Frank Kozik. Antiseen Shiv Stepsister Zen Guerilla Euclid Tavern Cleveland, Ohio 9-15-1995 In concert promotion, Frank Kozik's distinctive silkscreen prints stand as coveted pieces for collectors and fans of the pop and street art movements. His creation for the Antiseen, Shiv, Stepsister, and Zen Guerilla gig, dated September 15, 1995, at the Euclid Tavern in Cleveland, Ohio, is an exemplary piece of this niche. The limited edition print, with only 650 copies signed and numbered by Kozik, showcases the raw and energetic visual language synonymous with Kozik's style. With dimensions of 18x23 inches, this print was more than an announcement; it was a piece of art that captured the spirit of the musical acts it promoted. The imagery is quintessentially Kozik, blending anthropomorphic characters and a whimsical yet provocative arrangement, radiating the punk and hardcore essence of the headlining band Antiseen. Such visual elements are characteristic of Kozik's art, reflecting the underground music scene's gritty and rebellious ethos. The cow and wolf figures, dressed in human attire and engaging in a mock marriage ceremony, serve as a satirical comment, perhaps on the state of society or the inflammatory nature of the bands. In the corner, a pig appears content, contributing to the print's eccentric narrative. This work serves not just as an advertisement for a one-night event but as an artifact that speaks to the cultural and artistic milieu of the mid-90s. Kozik's work is a bridge connecting the subcultural to the mainstream, using the accessible medium of the gig poster to disseminate his unique brand of visual art. These silkscreen prints stand as an intersection where the transitory nature of street art is given permanence, where the voice of underground music is visualized, and where the collectible quality of fine art meets the democratic spirit of street art. This print from the Euclid Tavern event celebrates that union, immortalizing a moment in the continuously evolving narrative of pop and street art.

  • Bad Brains Punk Showcase Rasta AP Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Shepard Fairey- OBEY Bad Brains Punk Showcase Rasta AP Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Bad Brains Punk Showcase Rasta AP Artist Proof 5-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on Cream Speckle Tone Paper by Shepard Fairey Rare Street Art OBEY Pop Artwork Artist For Musicians Bad Brains. AP Artist Proof 2016 Signed & Marked AP Limited Edition Artwork Size 18x24 Shepard Fairey's "Bad Brains Punk Showcase Rasta AP" is a culturally potent piece within the street pop and graffiti art landscape. As an artist proof of the limited edition series, this 5-color hand-pulled silkscreen print on cream speckle tone paper measures 18x24 inches and was released in 2016. Signed and marked as an artist-proof (AP), it is a collector's piece that delves into the pulsating heart of punk's ethos and reggae's rasta vibrations, manifested through the lens of Fairey's distinct style. This artwork resonates with the energy of Bad Brains, a band that epitomized the hardcore punk scene with its unique blend of punk and reggae, a hybrid that paralleled Fairey's melding of art forms. The print captures the band's spirit with the commanding phrase "Positive Mental Attitude!" a mantra that Bad Brains championed throughout their career. Fairey's work is a visual echo of this ethos, presenting the band members with a backdrop of rasta colors, which not only allude to their music's roots but also serve as a nod to a broader cultural movement. Fairey, known for his influence on street pop art through works like the iconic "OBEY" campaign and the Obama "HOPE" poster, continues his exploration of music's intersection with visual art in this print. The piece is saturated with the motifs of Fairey's "OBEY Propaganda" — the star, the bold lettering, and the stylized imagery. These elements merge, not promote a band, and celebrate an entire cultural movement, reflecting the potency of street pop art in capturing and promoting subcultural movements. The "Bad Brains Punk Showcase Rasta AP" print symbolizes Fairey's engagement with the punk scene and his ability to encapsulate its raw, unfiltered voice within his work. It's a testament to the enduring dialogue between music and visual art, which Fairey has continually fostered through his prints, murals, and street art. This piece doesn't just hang on a wall; it screams with the voice of a movement, echoing from the underground clubs to the sun-soaked streets where street art and graffiti have long found their home.

This two-color hand-pulled silkscreen print on cream speckle tone paper is a tribute to the legendary punk band Bad Brains, known for their explosive fusion of punk and reggae and their message of "Positive Mental Attitude." The limited edition print, part of a signed and numbered release of 350 pieces measuring 18x24 inches, encapsulates the raw energy and ethos of the band while also showcasing Fairey's iconic style that has become synonymous with the OBEY brand. Fairey, a street artist and graphic designer, rose to fame with his "Andre the Giant Has a Posse" sticker campaign, which later evolved into the OBEY Giant movement. This project aimed to stimulate curiosity and encourage people to question their relationship with their surroundings. The "Bad Brains Punk Showcase" piece continues Fairey's exploration of counterculture and music, prevalent themes throughout his body of work. His distinct approach to art, often characterized by bold, stylized images and a limited color palette, reflects his roots in the skateboarding scene and his admiration for the punk rock ethos. In this artwork, Fairey melds the band's iconography with his aesthetic to create a piece that is both a homage and a standalone work within the street pop art genre. The use of the star emblem, the dynamic composition, and the commanding typography are all hallmarks of Fairey's style while also paying respect to the cultural significance of Bad Brains. The result is a piece that resonates with fans of the band and Fairey's art, bridging the gap between music and visual art in a way symbolic of street pop art's role in contemporary culture. The artwork serves not only as a collector's item but also as an illustration of the synergy between visual art and music. It is a testament to the power of street pop art to transcend its origins and become a part of the cultural lexicon, capable of celebrating and immortalizing the pioneers of subcultures like punk rock. Fairey's "Bad Brains Punk Showcase - Rock For Light" is a vibrant reminder of the enduring legacy of Bad Brains and the rebellious spirit that fuels both their music and the world of street pop art.

When I was a 14-year-old skateboarder, a friend played me “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols,” and that moment marked a turning point for me. The Sex Pistols provided the adrenaline-inducing soundtrack for my rebellion. If the Sex Pistols provided the soundtrack, the artist behind their imagery, Jamie Reid, provided the visuals for the revolution. Jamie Reid did the iconic art for the Sex Pistols like the “God Save the Queen” sleeve, the “Pretty Vacant” sleeve, and the cover for the album “Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols.” Jamie deserves the majority of credit for the daring aesthetics of Punk Rock. If you’ve ever seen a photocopied, ransom note style, cut & paste punk graphic, then you’ve seen Jamie Reid’s influence. Jamie has been one of my biggest creative inspirations both visually and philosophically, because his work is bold, provocative, irreverent, and political. Jamie Reid also turned me on to Situationism, a movement dedicated to disrupting the conformist trance through pranks and spectacles. I’m honored that I have been able to work with Jamie on some collaborative images and to present a special collection through Obey Clothing in his honor, as well as two limited edition screen-prints. Jamie and I have mutual interest in shaking things up and addressing the problems of corruption, environmental destruction, and wealth inequality, so it is very energizing and meaningful to do a project with him. Enjoy and embrace the chaos!" -Shepard Fairey

Signed & Numbered, Bias by Numbers 30 inches by 42 inches Edition of 89 June 3, 2019 “Bias by Numbers” addresses racial bias in policing, criminal justice, and media culture. Racial bias in policing and criminal justice has a long history, including stats like – black people being five times more likely to be stopped and searched than white people, and four times more likely to be subjected to unnecessary use of force, or four times more likely to be killed by the police when unarmed. The statistics revealing racial bias in prosecution and sentencing are compelling as well. Though recreational drug use is equally common in both predominantly black communities and predominantly white communities, convictions for drug possession are almost six times higher for blacks. Blacks frequently receive longer prison sentences than whites contributing to African Americans being incarcerated at more than five times the rate of whites.
