Derek Hess Monkey Trick Serigraph Print by Derek Hess
Monkey Trick Limited Edition Hand Pulled 4-Color Serigraph Print on Fine Art Paper by Derek Hess Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 2015 SIgned & Numbered Limited Edition of 200, 4 colors and the white of the paper creates the tan lines." - Derek Hess Dissecting Derek Hess's Monkey Trick Serigraph In the intricate dance of colors and lines that characterizes Derek Hess's 'Monkey Trick,' the piece stands out as a testament to the artist's prowess in merging the intensity of graffiti artwork with the finesse of modern pop art. This limited edition, hand-pulled, 4-color serigraph print on fine art paper exemplifies how street art sensibilities can be transformed into gallery-worthy pieces. Hess, an American artist from Cleveland, Ohio, is celebrated for his work, which often reflects struggle, emotion, and human complexity themes. Serigraphy: Melding Street Art with Fine Art The technique used in 'Monkey Trick' is serigraphy, which refers to traditional screen printing methods. By utilizing a mesh to transfer ink onto paper, except in areas made impermeable to the ink by a blocking stencil, Hess showcases his distinctive style—usually seen adorning city walls and skateboards. The statement by Hess, '4 colors and the white of the paper creates the tan lines,' underlines his meticulous methodology. The limited color palette does not limit the depth of the piece; instead, it enriches it, with the white of the paper becoming an active participant in the narrative. This is particularly notable in street pop art, where the environment often contributes to the artwork, just as the paper does here. The surroundings are not mere backdrops but integral components of the art. In 'Monkey Trick,' Hess utilizes the absence of color to suggest presence, much like how the silence in a conversation can speak volumes. It reflects how graffiti artists often must use the canvas of walls, adjusting and incorporating their imperfections and textures into their work. The Visual Language of 'Monkey Trick' The subject matter of 'Monkey Trick' is quintessentially Hess—a complex human figure in repose, suggestive of vulnerability or exhaustion, with a more petite figure, which appears to be a monkey, also in a state of rest. The human figure, rendered in robust, muscular lines, is influential yet passive. The monkey, often symbolizing mischief or playfulness in art, is shown in an unusual moment of calm, mirroring its human counterpart. This duality may reflect the multifaceted nature of humans, who possess both a primal, unrefined side and a more complex emotional capacity. Using only four colors to create this piece speaks to Hess's ingenuity. It challenges the viewer to find depth and texture in limitation, a common theme in street art where artists often work with a restricted palette due to environmental and material constraints. The serigraph embraces street pop art's raw, unfiltered ethos, which thrives on minimalism and directness to convey powerful messages. The lines and tan shades in 'Monkey Trick' create a tangible texture that can almost be felt, reminiscent of the tactile nature of walls that serve as canvases in urban landscapes. The Legacy of Derek Hess and 'Monkey Trick' Derek Hess's work has been influential in bridging the often segregated worlds of street art and fine art. 'Monkey Trick' is a notable example of how graffiti's spontaneity and vivid imagery can be harmoniously blended with pop art. It also indicates Hess's ability to convey complex human emotions through simple yet compelling compositions. This serigraph adds to his legacy as a pioneer in this blended art form. It serves as a cultural artifact, capturing the essence of an era where street art is increasingly recognized as a legitimate and influential art form. Through 'Monkey Trick,' Hess contributes to the dialogue on converging street art techniques with acceptable art principles. His work resonates within the art community and beyond, attracting those who need to be more traditionally engaged with art and inviting them to explore the layered meanings behind the deceptively simple visuals. Pieces like this exemplify how modern street pop art is not just about the art itself but also about the process and the narrative it invites the viewer to partake in. Through his art, Derek Hess asks us to consider the human condition, the rawness of our existence, and the beauty found within the constraints of form and color.

As the art form continues to gain traction and evolve, his work serves as a testament to the limitless possibilities of expression within this space. Shepard Fairey- OBEY Moon Over Biloxi- White Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY
Moon Over Biloxi- White 1-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on Fine Art Paper by Shepard Fairey Rare Street Art Famous Pop Artwork Artist. White Variant Signed & Numbered Moon Over Biloxi Screen Print 18 x 24 inches Edition of 200 July 27, 2010. "The title of this print “Moon Over Biloxi” is a tribute to the Dead Kennedy’s song “Moon Over Marin”. In 1984 I picked up maybe my 4th punk record which was the 2nd Dead Kennedy’s album “Plastic Surgery Disasters”. The album is a great listen all the way through and includes some blistering tunes like “Riot” and “Bleed For Me” laced with social commentary. The surprise song though is “Moon Over Marin”… detractors have called it the Dead Kennedy’s “U2” song, but I disagree. “Moon Over Marin” is more melodic than most DK, but juxtaposed with the darkness of the lyrics, the song evokes a powerful sense of existential melancholy. I think the concept that struck me, and stuck with me, is that our disrespect of each other and the planet may doom us, but things will continue without us. I think it is healthy to recognize impermanence, but also to appreciate the value of the ephemeral. Moonlight, real or electric, will probably be around, but what it will be casting light on is the real question. There will always be a moon over Biloxi." -Shepard

Shepard Fairey- OBEY Moonage Daydream Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY
Moonage Daydream 5-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on Fine Speckletone Art Paper by Artist Shepard Fairey OBEY. 2022 Shepard Fairey Numbered Limited Edition of TBD 18x24 inches. Screenprint on thick cream Speckletone paper. "David Bowie is one of my favorite musicians not only because so many of his songs possess magic, but also because he was creatively fearless and perpetually collaborative. I first discovered David Bowie in 1983 when his Let’s Dance album came out, and its hits like “Let’s Dance,” “China Girl,” and “Modern Love” were getting radio play. I became a die-hard Bowie fan once I picked up Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars at a flea market a few years later. Ziggy Stardust is one of my favorite albums ever. It makes sense that it was Bowie’s breakthrough album, not just because his newly adopted androgynous glam image was provocative and mesmerizing, but because the songs on the album are incredible! At first, my favorites were obvious rockers like “Suffragette City” and “Ziggy Stardust,” but over the years, folkier songs like “Soul Love” and “Starman” really grew on me. It’s almost impossible to pick a favorite Bowie song from Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, much less Bowie’s entire catalog, but if I had to, I’d pick “Moonage Daydream.” It has Mick Ronson’s rocking guitar and also features unexpected instrumentation, including piano, strings, sax, and flute, which makes it both tough and pretty. I love the lyric, “don’t fake it baby… lay the real thing on me,” and all the lyrics have a sci-fi hipster coolness to them. “Moonage Daydream” is powerful, beautiful, hypnotic, hip, and a great indication of Bowie’s vision to push boundaries with his art. For this “Moonage Daydream” print image, I was able to reference outtakes from the Ziggy cover shoot, one of which I thought, with a few artistic liberties taken, could become a great portrait illustration. Bowie was incredibly photogenic, which yielded so many glorious images of him, and makes it a challenge to create a new visage that stands with the rest of his most iconic portraits. It is very meaningful for me to have the opportunity to craft my articulation of one of my favorite artists ever, from possibly the era of his peak creative genius. It is an honor to contribute in a small way to David Bowie’s visual legacy. –Shepard is one of my favorite musicians not only because so many of his songs possess magic, but also because he was creatively fearless and perpetually collaborative. Shepard Fairey- OBEY MUSACK Terry Hall Tribute Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY
MUSACK Terry Hall Tribute Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY Hand-Pulled 2-Color on True White Speckletone Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Artwork Obey Pop Culture Artist. 2023 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 300 Artwork Size 18x24 Silkscreen Print. Lynval Golding & Team Specials, Billy Idol, Jane Wiedlin, Tim Armstrong, Tony Kanal, Tom Dumont, Adrian Young, Fishbone, Jerry Harrison, Tre Cool, Fred Armisen, Jesse Michaels. Donita Sparks. The Jg All-Stars. Bite Me Bambi. Record Safari Gig Poster "Terry Hall, singer of the Specials, one of my favorite bands, died of pancreatic cancer a little less than a year ago. This past Saturday, Musack did an amazing tribute to Terry with a bonkers lineup, including Horace Panter and Lynval Golding of the Specials, Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go’s, Fishbone, No Doubt (except Gwen), Tom Morello, Tim Armstrong and Jesse Michaels of Operation Ivy, Donita Sparks of L7, and others! I fell in love with the Specials in the summer of 1989, around the time I started listening to Operation Ivy and Fishbone, so to have members of all those bands celebrating Terry was incredible! I was also able to do the poster for the event based on a beautiful photo by Chalkie Davies. There are two versions of the print, one with the event lineup included and another that is a simpler tribute to Terry. The black and white print are editions of 325, but the show lineup print is a smaller quantity (edition of 300) because many were sold at the event, and all proceeds from those benefit Musack, an excellent music charity for kids. On a personal note, Terry came by my studio a couple of times, and we talked for hours. He was kind, thoughtful, and very open about life’s ups and downs. We talked about kids, mental health, insecurity, relationships, the therapeutic benefits of creativity, and many other heavy topics. He was a kindred spirit who I thought I’d be friends with for many years. This print was done with love… thanks for the tunes Terry!" -Shepard Fairey- OBEY MUSACK's tribute to the legendary Terry Hall, the iconic singer of the Specials, is encapsulated in a visually arresting silkscreen print crafted by Shepard Fairey, renowned for his OBEY art movement. This piece, hand-pulled in 2-color on True White Speckletone Fine Art Paper, is a testament to the profound influence Terry Hall had on the music industry and its fans. The artwork is an exquisite fusion of pop art, street art, and graffiti art, embodying the very essence of Terry Hall's spirit and impact on the world. Released in 2023 as a signed and numbered limited edition, with only 300 prints in circulation, the artwork measures 18x24 inches. The artistry is profound, drawing inspiration from a poignant photograph Chalkie Davies took. Two versions of this print exist, one showcasing an event lineup and the other serving as a more streamlined homage to Hall. While the black and white prints are available in editions of 325, the one bearing the event lineup is more exclusive, with a count of 300, many of which were already acquired during the event. The backstory of this piece is equally captivating. MUSACK's heartfelt tribute event celebrated Terry's life, boasting a staggering lineup of eminent musicians, from Horace Panter and Lynval Golding of the Specials to Jane Wiedlin of the Go-Go’s, Fishbone, and members of No Doubt, among others. Shepard Fairey's interactions with Terry add depth to the artwork. Terry, in his visits to Shepard's studio, revealed layers of his personality, discussing topics ranging from mental health to the therapeutic nature of creativity. Shepard saw him as a kindred spirit, and their interactions were laden with deep understanding and mutual respect. This artwork, hence, is not just an aesthetic masterpiece but a heartfelt tribute, reverberating with the essence of Terry Hall's life and legacy.

Glenn Barr Muse of the World Blue Silkscreen Print by Glenn Barr
Muse of the World- Blue Limited 2-Color Screen Print on 140lbs French Fine Art Paper by Glenn BarrGraffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. "This image was a popular poster I had released a few years ago. I decided to take it to a more “handcrafted” limited edition print different from offset. Last year I had it transcribed into a 2 color silk screen print and released it with only 25 in the edition, made for my show at Inner State Gallery in Detroit...They went fast. In celebration of the popular image I wanted to do another version. This time changing the color ways from the electric red. 50 editions to be in cool blues and another 50 in deep golds. Then to add a special edition and limited to 25 I created a 3rd screen with line work to enhance the Muse’s spectacle of flight." - Glenn Barr

Glen E Friedman My Rules Silkscreen Print by Glen E Friedman
My Rules Silkscreen Print by Glen E Friedman Hand-Pulled on Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Artwork. 2004 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 200 Artwork Size 16x20 Silkscreen Print Glen E. Friedman's My Rules: A Testament to Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork Glen E. Friedman's "My Rules" silkscreen print is a visual manifesto that embodies the spirit of street pop art and graffiti artwork. This 16x20 limited edition print, part of a series of 200 signed and numbered editions, captures the raw energy and DIY ethos of the underground punk and skateboarding scenes. Published in 2004 on the occasion of the groundbreaking "Beautiful Losers: Contemporary Art and Street Culture" exhibition, the artwork is a testament to the profound influence of subcultures on mainstream art and society. The photozine format of "My Rules," with its collage of expressive faces and anarchic energy, speaks to the rebellious heart of street culture. Friedman, a seminal figure in the documentation of punk, skateboarding, and hip-hop subcultures, uses the silkscreen print to transcend the temporality of the zine medium, cementing its contents in the annals of art history. The work is not just an object to be admired but a historical document that captures the zeitgeist of a pivotal moment in cultural history. The Significance of "My Rules" in the Evolution of Street Art The significance of "My Rules" in the evolution of street art is manifold. The artwork bridges the ephemeral nature of street culture and the permanence of fine art. By translating the dynamic imagery of his photography into the medium of silkscreen print, Friedman elevates the transient moments captured in his photographs to the status of high art. This elevation is a commentary on the value of street culture and its unwavering influence on contemporary aesthetics. Friedman's work has always been about more than just documenting subcultures; it is about understanding and conveying the underlying messages of defiance, creativity, and freedom that these movements embody. "My Rules" encapsulates this understanding, presenting the viewer with a raw and unfiltered look at the individuals who define these movements. The faces and moments he captures are not passive; they are charged with an energy that demands engagement and recognition. Provenance and Cultural Impact of "My Rules" The provenance of "My Rules" is rooted in the Beautiful Losers Archive and Iconoclast Editions, collections that celebrate the work of artists who have profoundly impacted the dialogue between street culture and fine art. These institutions are custodians of a history that might otherwise have been overlooked, preserving the artifacts of street culture's incursion into the art world. "My Rules," as part of these collections, is a piece that not only reflects the history of street art but also contributes to its ongoing narrative. The cultural impact of "My Rules" and the work of Glen E. Friedman is far-reaching. The print and its exhibition have played a crucial role in shaping perceptions of street art, demonstrating its depth and complexity. Street pop art and graffiti artwork, often relegated to the peripheries of the art world, are brought to the forefront through Friedman's lens, asserting their place as vital components of contemporary art discourse. Through "My Rules," Friedman challenges the art establishment, questions the boundaries of art, and celebrates the indomitable spirit of street culture. The artwork stands as a reminder of the power of visual documentation in capturing and preserving the essence of cultural movements. In the hands of Glen E. Friedman, the camera is as much a tool for creating art as it is for recording it, and "My Rules" is a vibrant illustration of this dual capability. The print is not just a reflection of a bygone era but a beacon for future generations to understand the cultural undercurrents that have shaped and will continue to shape the world of art and expression.

Neon Orange Black Widow Spider HPM Mixed Media Unique by Saber Hand-Painted Ink, Colored Pencils, Marker, Highlighter on Fine Art Paper Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 2023 Signed & Numbered Mixed Unique Edition Original Series Edition of 10 HPM Hand-Drawn Pen Ink, Highlighter Marker, Marker, and Colored Pencils Artwork Size 3.5x3 Mini Drawing of the Spiders & Black Widow Spider. Includes Hand Painted & Tagged Envelope. Exploring the Vivid Depths of Saber's Neon Orange Black Widow The 'Neon Black Widow Spider HPM Mixed Media Unique' series by Saber is an engaging and vibrant collection that captures the essence of street pop art through the unique lens of natural imagery. In this 2023 signed and numbered series, limited to a unique original edition of 10, Saber explores the potent symbolism of the black widow spider using a range of materials, including hand-drawn pen ink, highlighter, marker, and Colored Pencils on fine art paper. Saber's Multi-Media Artistic Approach Saber, a prominent figure in the graffiti street art scene, is renowned for his dynamic use of space and color. With this series, he focuses on the miniature canvas of 3.5x3 inches to bring the intricate details of spiders to life. The juxtaposition of neon colors against the starkness of the black widow's form creates a startling contrast, emphasizing the spider's notorious reputation and inherent beauty. The use of mixed media is pivotal in Saber's work. It allows for a depth and texture that is not easily achieved through one medium alone. The layering of ink, Colored Pencils, and highlighter conveys a sense of movement and vibrancy, while the marker outlines provide structure and definition. This combination of mediums reflects the multifaceted nature of street pop art, which often incorporates a range of elements to create a cohesive whole. Symbolism and Significance in Modern Pop Art Saber delves into symbolism in the 'Neon Black Widow Spider HPM Mixed Media Unique series. The black widow spider's notorious red hourglass marking is often associated with danger, seduction, and femininity. By rendering this creature neon, Saber amplifies these associations, making the spider impossible to ignore and transforming it into an icon of allure and warning. This series, while diverging from the typical urban landscapes and bold lettering of traditional graffiti, remains firmly rooted in the principles of street pop art. The work challenges viewers to find beauty in nature's often overlooked or feared aspects, much like street art often demands attention for the underappreciated facets of the cityscape. Saber, an American artist whose real name has become synonymous with the street art movement, continues to push the boundaries of graffiti and pop art with this series. Each piece serves as a reminder of the transformative power of art to alter perceptions and engage with cultural symbols in new and unexpected ways. In summary, the 'Neon Black Widow Spider HPM Mixed Media Unique' by Saber stands as a captivating intersection of nature and urban artistry. Through this series, Saber showcases his versatility as an artist and contributes to the ongoing conversation about the role of street pop art in the modern visual landscape.

Saber Neon Pink Black Widow Spider HPM Mixed Media Unique by Saber
Neon Pink Black Widow Spider HPM Mixed Media Unique by Saber Hand-Painted Ink, Colored Pencils, Marker, Highlighter on Fine Art Paper Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 2023 Signed & Numbered Mixed Unique Edition Original Series Edition of 25 HPM Hand-Drawn Pen Ink, Highlighter Marker, Marker, and Colored Pencils Artwork Size 3.5x3 Mini Drawing of the Pink Spiders & Black Widow Spider. Includes Hand Painted & Tagged Cardboard. Intersecting Nature and Urban Expression in Saber's Art The 'Neon Pink Black Widow Spider HPM Mixed Media Unique' series is a stunning representation of street pop art's versatility and depth, created by the renowned graffiti artist Saber. This 2023 collection, a numbered series of 25 unique hand-painted multiples (HPM), features miniature 3.5x3 inch drawings of black widow spiders rendered in a striking neon pink. These pieces are accompanied by hand-painted and tagged cardboard, combining natural motifs and urban art sensibilities. Saber's Mixed Media Mastery Saber, an artist whose works are embedded in the DNA of modern street art, utilizes a diverse range of materials such as pen ink, highlighter, marker, and colored pencils to bring these arachnids to life. The neon pink is arresting and symbolic, challenging the viewer's perceptions of danger and attraction. In the natural world, bright colors often serve as a warning, and in the urban landscape, they demand attention – a parallel that Saber skillfully draws upon in his artwork. The inclusion of hand-painted cardboard adds an element of raw authenticity to the series. Cardboard, a ubiquitous and often discarded material, is transformed into a valuable part of the art, questioning the hierarchy of materials and the value assigned to different mediums. This approach is emblematic of street pop art's capacity to elevate the mundane and to find beauty in the overlooked. Themes of Survival and Beauty Black widow spiders are creatures that evoke a mixture of fear and fascination. Saber taps into this duality, using the spiders as a metaphor for resilience and the delicate balance between beauty and danger. This narrative is particularly resonant within the context of street pop art and graffiti artwork, where the act of creation itself is often a form of survival and defiance. The spiders, set against Saber's signature tags backdrop, embody the tension inherent in street art – the push and pull between legality and expression, between the individual artist and the broader community. Through his neon pink black widows, Saber invites a dialogue about the interplay between instincts and urban environments and the instinctual drive to leave a mark through silk webs or spray paint.

Sarah Joncas New Leaf Archival Print by Sarah Joncas
New Leaf Archival Print by Sarah Joncas Archival Pigment Fine Art Limited Edition Print on Fine Art Paper Pop Artist Modern Artwork. 2019 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 50 Artwork Size 16x16 New Leaf Archival Print by Sarah Joncas – A Dreamlike Reflection of Modern Femininity in Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork New Leaf is a 16x16 inch archival pigment print created by Canadian artist Sarah Joncas in 2019. This limited edition work was produced in a run of only 50 signed and numbered copies on fine art paper, underscoring both its exclusivity and the artist’s careful attention to craft. Known for her surreal and emotionally resonant imagery, Joncas captures the essence of introspection, femininity, and transformation in this piece. The image portrays a young woman with softly rendered features and a contemplative expression, her eyes closed as if drifting through memory or emotion. Her long dark hair flows outward, merging with soft, cartoon-like storm clouds that drip like melting paint. The clouds are both whimsical and melancholic, wrapping around her figure in delicate, surreal forms that evoke both dream and mood. Symbolism, Sentiment, and Modern Visual Language Sarah Joncas brings a deeply personal lens to contemporary pop-influenced portraiture, blending elements of surrealism, anime aesthetics, and emotive realism. In New Leaf, the subject wears a retro pink polka-dotted dress, open in the back and tied with a large bow. This fashion detail anchors the image in a nostalgic sense of style, while the leaf-shaped earring she wears speaks to the title’s metaphor of growth, transformation, and renewal. The idea of turning over a new leaf is expressed visually through the earring and through the evolving interplay of organic and symbolic forms surrounding her. The clouds serve not just as visual decoration but as emotional language. They symbolize transitory thought, sadness, or confusion—evoking states of being that are intangible but deeply felt. The tension between the clean softness of the woman’s figure and the loose, dripping cloud forms adds visual contrast and emotional ambiguity. Sarah Joncas and the Feminine Narrative in Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork Sarah Joncas, born in Canada in 1986, is known for her work that explores themes of female identity, self-reflection, and psychological states. She emerged from the lowbrow and new contemporary art movement but continues to innovate by merging fine art technique with pop culture influence. New Leaf presents a quietly powerful narrative without overt symbolism or political statement. Instead, it invites viewers to witness a private moment, rendered in tones that are delicate yet striking. While not created in a traditional graffiti setting, Joncas’ work maintains a connection to Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork through its visual language and cultural accessibility. Her figures feel like they belong equally in a gallery or on a mural wall, bridging fine art traditions with emotionally intuitive storytelling rooted in contemporary life. New Leaf as a Limited Edition Statement of Modern Pop Surrealism The archival quality of New Leaf ensures that its visual clarity and tonal subtleties are preserved in print form, capturing the softness of skin, the shine in flowing hair, and the translucent layering of clouds with high fidelity. The artist’s technical skill in digital and traditional painting translates seamlessly into this edition, which brings both collectors and fans a piece of deeply intimate and meticulously crafted art. The choice to limit the edition to 50 reinforces the specialness of the piece, positioning it as not only a collectible artifact but as a timeless portrayal of emotional interiority. New Leaf balances technical mastery with quiet symbolism, giving voice to a modern feminine perspective that is often gentle but never passive. It stands as a contemplative and beautifully executed example of Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork that speaks softly but stays with the viewer long after.

Shepard Fairey- OBEY New Wave Couple AP Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY
New Wave Couple AP Dance Floor Riot Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY Artist Proof Hand-Pulled 1-Color Screen Print on Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Graffiti Pop Street Artwork. AP Artist Proof 2011 Signed & AP Marked Limited Edition Artwork Size 13x13 "Long before I knew about art galleries or even street art, I was excited about album cover art, if only because it was the visual counterpart to the music on the records I loved. Album covers conjured a euphoric association with the listening experience. Most of my earliest home-made tee shirts were stencils based on punk album covers… No matter how much I love art, or try to convince myself of its relevance in society, the fact remains that music is a lot cooler and way more able to reach people’s hearts and minds… but I’m a populist and I look at it this way: I may not play an instrument, but I’m gonna rock it hard as nails anyway. With my art I try to capture the same energy and spirit that makes music so powerful and democratic. REVOLUTIONS is a celebration of all the great music and accompanying art that has inspired me over the years." -Shepard Fairey New Wave Couple AP by Shepard Fairey: A Visual Tribute to Music and Street Pop Art The New Wave Couple Artist Proof silkscreen print by Shepard Fairey is a striking homage to the fusion of music, fashion, and cultural movements. Released in 2011, this limited-edition print measures 13 by 13 inches and is hand-pulled using a one-color silkscreen process. Signed and marked as an Artist Proof, the artwork is a rare collector’s piece that encapsulates Fairey’s talent for blending the bold aesthetics of Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork with the dynamic energy of musical subcultures. The design features a sharply dressed couple in mod-inspired attire, exuding the confidence and style synonymous with the new wave music era. Their checkerboard outfits and bold stances convey a sense of rhythm and rebellion, complemented by flowing musical notes that connect the figures to the larger composition. The intricate border design, combined with clean, graphic lines, creates a visually dynamic piece that pays tribute to the era's vibrant and innovative spirit. This print, part of Fairey’s Revolutions series, celebrates the cultural impact of music and its visual storytelling power. Music as a Muse in Street Pop Art Shepard Fairey has long credited music as a central influence in his work, with album covers and punk aesthetics shaping his early artistic identity. New Wave Couple captures the essence of the new wave movement, which emerged as a fresh, stylish offshoot of punk music. The sleek, checkerboard visuals and emphasis on individuality in this piece echo the movement's emphasis on self-expression and creative freedom. Fairey uses these cultural elements to craft a narrative that resonates with fans of music and art alike. The monochromatic palette and bold design evoke the aesthetics of vintage album art, aligning with Fairey’s aim to create visual counterparts to the energy and emotion of music. The print reflects the interplay between sound and style, demonstrating how music can influence fashion, art, and cultural identity. By combining these elements, Fairey crafts a piece that captures the spirit of an era while grounding it in the contemporary visual language of Street Pop Art. The Silkscreen Process and Artistic Precision The silkscreen printing process used for New Wave Couple exemplifies Shepard Fairey’s commitment to craftsmanship. Hand-pulled on fine art paper, the print achieves a high level of detail and clarity. The one-color design emphasizes contrast and precision, allowing the intricate patterns and bold imagery to take center stage. The texture of the fine art paper adds a tactile quality to the piece, enhancing its appeal as both a visual and physical work of art. The Artist Proof designation signifies the print’s unique status within the limited edition, often representing the most refined and personal iteration of the design. This rarity makes it a highly sought-after piece for collectors and fans of Fairey’s work. The silkscreen medium aligns with Fairey’s roots in graffiti art, where stenciling and printing techniques are integral to the DIY ethos of the movement. Shepard Fairey: Champion of Music-Inspired Art Shepard Fairey, a pioneer in Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork, has built a career on blending bold visual statements with cultural commentary. His Revolutions series, which includes New Wave Couple, reflects his passion for music and its transformative power.
