Askew One Yolanda Archival Print by Askew One

Yolanda Limited Edition Archival Pigment Print on 310gsm Fine Art Paper by Askew One Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 2016 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 50 Artwork Size 17x17 Since the ‘Thunderclap Headache’ piece from 2011 I’ve been consistently painting portrait works, either the left profile or straight on. The majority of these works are images of people from the Pacific region, mostly women who exude a strong sense of personal style and character. The main exception is when I travel I tend to try and paint someone from each place I go. Yolanda is Detroit local - we spotted her at a Red Bull House Of Art opening in Detroit's Eastern Market. After speaking with her and creating this piece I got a sense that she is a person with a story to tell and a very strong character." - Askew

Askew One is a highly respected graffiti artist and painter from New Zealand. Born in 1971 as Elliot O'Donnell, he began painting graffiti in the mid-1980s and quickly became known for his innovative style and technical skills. Askew One's early graffiti work was heavily influenced by the New York City style, but he quickly developed his own distinctive style that combined elements of both traditional graffiti and fine art. His graffiti work often features highly detailed, realistic portraits of people, animals, and objects, rendered in a bold and dynamic style. In addition to his graffiti work, Askew One is also a highly accomplished painter. His paintings often explore themes of identity, culture, and urban life, and he frequently incorporates traditional Maori motifs and symbols into his work. One of Askew One's most famous works is the mural he painted on the side of the Central Library building in Auckland, New Zealand. The mural, titled "Haerenga / The Journey," depicts a group of Maori and Pacific Islander people traveling across a vast ocean. The mural is a powerful symbol of the history and culture of New Zealand's indigenous people, and it has become a beloved landmark in the city. In addition to his work as an artist, Askew One is also an advocate for youth empowerment and community development. He has worked on a number of public art projects that aim to provide young people with opportunities to express themselves and develop their artistic skills, and he is a frequent speaker at conferences and events focused on social and cultural issues. Overall, Askew One is a highly respected artist whose work has had a significant impact on the world of graffiti and fine art. His innovative style, technical skill, and commitment to social justice and community development have made him an important figure in the New Zealand arts community and beyond.
