Ben Johnston is a Canadian artist and designer who is best known for his work in creating typographic designs that blend traditional lettering with contemporary design elements. He is particularly noted for his use of geometric shapes and lines, as well as his innovative use of color and negative space. Johnston was born in Toronto, Canada in 1983, and he studied graphic design at Humber College in Toronto. After graduating, he worked as a designer for several years before launching his own studio, Bento Graphics, in 2012. Johnston's work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and publications, and he has collaborated with a wide range of clients, including Nike, Coca-Cola, and Google. He is particularly well-known for his large-scale typographic murals, which can be found in public spaces around the world. In addition to his commercial work, Johnston is also a passionate advocate for typography education. He has taught typography and design at several colleges and universities in Canada, and he is the co-founder of the Toronto-based typography studio, Ligatures YYZ.
