Cornbread- Darryl McCray - Sprayed Paint Art Collection
Cornbread, also known as Darryl McCray, is a graffiti artist who is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the art form. Born in Philadelphia in 1953, Cornbread began his artistic career in the late 1960s by painting his name on walls and buildings around the city. In 1967, at the age of just 14, Cornbread began tagging his name around his neighborhood. He was inspired by other graffiti artists in the city, and quickly became one of the most prolific taggers in Philadelphia. He soon began to experiment with larger and more complex pieces, incorporating images and messages into his work. One of Cornbread's most famous pieces was a massive mural that he painted on the side of a Philadelphia hotel in 1971. The mural featured a giant, cartoonish character with Cornbread's name emblazoned across its chest. The mural was widely celebrated in the local community and helped to cement Cornbread's reputation as a leading figure in the graffiti scene. Cornbread continued to push the boundaries of graffiti throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He experimented with new styles and techniques, and became known for his bold, colorful murals that often featured political and social commentary. His work could be seen throughout Philadelphia and in other cities around the world. Today, Cornbread's legacy as a pioneer of graffiti art is widely recognized. His work has been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, and he has been the subject of numerous books and documentaries. Despite the controversies surrounding graffiti art, Cornbread's work continues to inspire and influence new generations of artists. In addition to his contributions to the world of graffiti art, Cornbread has also been involved in community activism and youth mentoring. He has worked with young people in his hometown of Philadelphia, helping to inspire the next generation of artists and activists.
