  • Ganas Vaquero AP Silkscreen Print by Ernesto Yerena Montejano- Hecho Con Ganas

Ernesto Yerena Montejano- Hecho Con Ganas Ganas Vaquero AP Silkscreen Print by Ernesto Yerena Montejano- Hecho Con Ganas

Ganas Vaquero- AP Artist Proof Hand-Pulled Silkscreen Print on Fine Art Paper by Latino Artist Ernesto Yerena Montejano- Hecho Con Ganas Limited Edition Artwork. AP Artist 2010 Signed & Marked Limited Edition Artwork Size 18x24 Ganas Vaquero is an emblematic work of art by the esteemed Latino artist Ernesto Yerena Montejano. This piece is not merely a testament to Montejano's creative prowess but also offers a nuanced commentary on the wider cultural milieu. Evident from its title which translates to "Cowboy Desire", this hand-pulled silkscreen print encapsulates a compelling juxtaposition between traditionalism and modernity, inherent within Latino culture. Crafted meticulously on fine art paper, the print mirrors the tactile and aesthetic quality that Montejano's oeuvre is celebrated for. As part of the "Hecho Con Ganas" series, this artwork is a shining example of Limited Edition Art, created with a sense of purpose and passion. The fact that it’s an AP (Artist Proof) from 2010 makes it especially rare and sought after among art collectors and enthusiasts. An artist proof, historically, refers to a print made from a plate during the process to check the quality. They hold a special place in the heart of printmaking and are often more valuable than regular prints because of their limited numbers and the artist's direct involvement in their creation. Positioned at the crossroads of pop art, street art, and graffiti, Ganas Vaquero exemplifies Montejano's unique ability to intertwine varied art forms while staying rooted in his cultural identity. The size of the artwork, 18x24 inches, ensures it captures attention while also being adaptable to diverse display settings. The signature of the artist affirms its authenticity, and the marking as a limited edition piece solidifies its exclusive status. Montejano's work thus doesn’t just serve as a representation of Latino heritage, but as a dialogue between global art forms, cultural identities, and individual creativity.

Particularly, I so remember the early 90’s and seeing a lot of Raider, Charger, Chivas de Guadalajara and America jersey’s and of course those of the Dodger’s and their blue and white hats with the iconic LA blazoned on the front. But my immediate family was different. My dad who in the early 1990’s sold automotive paint and painted cars was surprisingly not that much into the usual sports but all except for BOXING! At that point in time I remember the gatherings at my house when there was a Julio Ces One- Rob Provenzano ar Chavez fight, a De La Hoya fight or a Maromero Paez fight. My dad would bring the TV outside, set-up a bunch of chairs, roll out the grill, fire up the mesquite and lay down the marinated carne asada before the first round bell. I remember how much fun those days were and how much pride people had in the Mexican fighters." -Ernesto Yerena Montejano

Cowboy & Cowgirl

Manifestations of the American Frontier in Street Pop Art & Graffiti

The iconic figures of the cowboy and cowgirl hold a storied place in American culture, resonating with themes of freedom, adventure, and the spirit of the Wild West. These figures have been reimagined within the contexts of pop art, street art, and graffiti artwork, where they take on new life and meaning. In these vibrant art forms, the cowboy and cowgirl are often depicted in ways that both celebrate and critique the myths and realities of American history.

Street Pop Art's Reclamation of the Cowboy Image

Within street pop art, the cowboy and cowgirl are reinterpreted as symbols of nostalgia and contemporary culture. Artists often utilize these archetypes to explore and challenge notions of identity, gender roles, and societal expectations. Traditionally seen as a rugged, solitary figure, the cowboy is sometimes re-envisioned with a modern twist, becoming a canvas for commentary on current social and political issues. Similarly, the cowgirl is often portrayed in ways that subvert traditional depictions, highlighting themes of empowerment and defiance.

Graffiti Artwork and the Reimagining of Western Icons

Graffiti artwork, with its roots in subversion and rebellion, has a particular affinity for the cowboy and cowgirl motifs. Here, these figures are sometimes rendered with a sense of irony, contrasting the freedom of the open range with the constraints of urban environments. Graffiti artists might juxtapose images of cowboys and cowgirls with contemporary cityscapes, creating a visual dialogue between the old frontier and the new. Through such artworks, the lore of the American West is both honored and scrutinized, with artists often drawing attention to the complexities and contradictions of the historical narratives.

Cowboy and Cowgirl Symbolism in Modern Artistic Expression

The cowboy and cowgirl endure as potent symbols in modern artistic expression, particularly within street pop art and graffiti. These figures are continually reshaped and remodeled, reflecting the evolving attitudes and values of society. In the hands of contemporary artists, the cowboy and cowgirl are not just remnants of a bygone era but are active participants in the discourse on culture, history, and the ongoing construction of American identity. In essence, the enduring fascination with cowboys and cowgirls within street pop art and graffiti artwork signifies a broader cultural engagement with the mythos of the American West. Through these art forms, the cowboy and cowgirl persist as emblematic figures, offering insights into the nation's psyche and serving as vehicles for artistic innovation and social commentary.
