The Gorham Manufacturing Company was a prominent American manufacturer of silverware and hollowware, including glass products, based in Providence, Rhode Island. It was founded by Jabez Gorham in 1831 as a small workshop and grew into one of the largest and most successful silver manufacturers in the United States. The company was known for its high-quality products and innovative designs, which helped to establish its reputation as a leading producer of silverware and other decorative items. In addition to silver products, Gorham ventured into glassmaking. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the company produced a variety of glass items, such as vases, bowls, and drinking glasses. Gorham glass products were often decorated with intricate patterns and designs, making them highly sought-after by collectors. The Gorham Manufacturing Company was acquired by Textron Inc. in 1967, and the Gorham brand was sold multiple times after that. Today, the Gorham name is still associated with high-quality silverware and other decorative items, but it no longer has a dedicated glassmaking operation.
