  • Art in Action Invader Archival Print by Jeff Gillette

Jeff Gillette Art in Action Invader Archival Print by Jeff Gillette

Purchase Art in Action- Invader Archival Pigment Fine Art Limited Edition Print on 290gsm Moab Entrada Paper by Artist Jeff Gillette, Street Pop Art Graffiti Legend. 2022 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 100 Archival Pigment Print on 290gsm Moab Entrada Fine Art Paper Artwork Size 16x20 "Art in Action - Invader" captures a raw, energetic fusion of street pop art and graffiti through the lens of Jeff Gillette's distinctive approach to contemporary art. This archival pigment fine art limited edition print, pressed onto high-quality 290gsm Moab Entrada fine art paper, showcases Gillette's talent in engaging with the aesthetic and thematic elements of street culture. Each print in this limited series, sized at 16x20 inches, carries the artist's signature, certifying its authenticity and exclusive count, limited to a mere 100 pieces globally for the 2022 release. Gillette's art is often characterized by a convergence of dystopian themes with iconic elements from popular culture, which serves as a commentary on the decay and disillusionment underlying the glossy veneer of consumerism. This piece, "Art in Action - Invader," is no exception. It presents a pixelated figure, reminiscent of the popular 8-bit video game characters, which have been a notable theme in street art, particularly by the anonymous French artist known as Invader. However, Gillette takes this recognizable form and infuses it with a visceral splatter of paint, echoing the immediacy and often transgressive energy of graffiti art. The vibrant splashes of color against the stark figures not only draw visual attention but also invite reflection on the impact of digital culture in the art world and its intersection with traditional media. Gillette's use of the Invader motif interrogates the idea of space—both physical and digital—and how street art occupies and transforms public consciousness. The marriage of fine art printing techniques with the spontaneity of street art embodied in this print is a testament to the evolving narrative of art as a tool for social commentary. The limited nature of this series makes it a coveted item for collectors who seek to own a piece of art that not only stands as a visual statement but also represents a critical viewpoint on the dialogue between high art and street culture. In "Art in Action - Invader," Gillette's work is a beacon of this complex conversation, offering a snapshot of street art's ongoing evolution and its persistent echo in contemporary discourse.

Invader Graffiti Art
Invader, born in 1969, is a French urban artist known for his unique style of mosaic art inspired by the 1978 arcade game Space Invaders. He works under the pseudonym "Invader" to maintain anonymity and is famous for creating pixelated mosaic tile installations in various cities around the world, which he calls "invasions." Invader began his project in the late 1990s in Paris and has since invaded more than 70 cities worldwide, including New York, London, Tokyo, and Los Angeles, among others. His creations are often hidden in plain sight, encouraging people to explore their urban environments and discover these works of art. Made from small square tiles, his installations usually depict characters or symbols from retro video games, like the eponymous space invaders. In addition to these iconic figures, Invader has expanded his work to include other subjects and themes, often engaging with local culture or historical references. Invader's work has become increasingly popular and sought after, leading to exhibitions in galleries and museums. Despite his growing recognition, the artist remains anonymous, wearing a mask and using a pseudonym to keep his identity hidden. This anonymity allows him to continue his urban interventions and maintain the spirit of a true street artist. As Invader's work gained widespread recognition, it attracted the attention of street art enthusiasts and collectors alike. His installations have become a kind of scavenger hunt for fans who actively seek out and document the locations of his mosaics using maps and apps. One such app, called "FlashInvaders," allows users to photograph the mosaics, earn points, and compete with other players globally. Invader has also produced various merchandise, including prints, books, and stickers, which further extend the reach of his art. The artist has been featured in several documentaries about street art, including Banksy's renowned film "Exit Through the Gift Shop" (2010), which offers a glimpse into Invader's creative process and the broader street art scene. Aside from the classic Space Invaders characters, Invader's work often features other iconic pop culture figures, such as Super Mario, Pac-Man, and even animated characters like Pink Panther and The Simpsons. He has also paid tribute to famous artists, incorporating their styles or works into his mosaics, such as his renditions of the Mona Lisa and Picasso's Guernica. Although some authorities and property owners view Invader's work as vandalism, others appreciate it as a unique form of public art that brings a playful and nostalgic touch to urban environments. By using tiles instead of traditional graffiti materials like spray paint, Invader's art is more durable and resistant to weather, allowing his creations to remain visible for extended periods. Despite occasional removals or destruction of his work, Invader remains persistent in his mission to invade urban spaces with his pixelated mosaics, continually expanding his reach and inspiring a new generation of street artists to push the boundaries of public art.
