Madsaki

Madsaki, born in 1974 in Osaka, Japan, is a contemporary artist known for his unique style that combines elements of graffiti, Japanese manga, and pop culture. Madsaki, whose real name is Masaki Kaoru, moved to the United States in 1994 to study at Parsons School of Design in New York City. Madsaki gained prominence in the art world for his satirical reinterpretations of iconic paintings and works from art history, which he calls "Wannabe" series. By recreating famous masterpieces in his distinctive style, Madsaki aims to challenge the notion of high art and question the value society places on these well-regarded works. His work often incorporates the use of spray paint, drips, and bold colors, as well as text and slogans, giving his art a street art/graffiti feel. Madsaki is also known for his collaborations with other artists and brands, such as Takashi Murakami and the Japanese fashion label Hysteric Glamour. Madsaki's art has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, and his pieces are highly sought after by collectors.
