The "rise above" is a call to take the high road with a nod to one of my favorite Black Flag songs. Peace is radical punk!" -Shepard Fairey- OBEY. Shepard Fairey's "Rise Above Bird" letterpress print emerges as a striking piece of visual commentary in street and pop art. The artwork, a limited edition hand-pulled print on cream cotton fine art paper, showcases Fairey's adeptness at blending strong messages with iconic imagery. The image is set against a backdrop of stylistic elements and the words "Rise Above," which serve as an encouraging motto and a tribute to the artist's favorite song by the band Black Flag. This piece symbolizes Fairey's larger body of work, which often intersects with the themes of rebellion and peace, a juxtaposition at the heart of much street pop and graffiti artwork. The term' rise above' does not merely suggest an elevation in position or status; it is an ideological summons, urging viewers to surpass the ordinary, to overcome adversity, and to reject complacency. Fairey's artistry here is not just in the piece's visual appeal but also in its capability to provoke thought and inspire action. Shepard Fairey's influence in modern street pop and graffiti artwork is undeniable. His works are infused with political and social undertones, calling for a challenge to the status quo and advocating for a radical form of peace that aligns with the punk ethos. The "Rise Above Bird" is a testament to Fairey's consistent vision, which has solidified his place as a pivotal figure in contemporary art. It stands as a bold statement in the ongoing dialogue about the power of art to enact change and the artist's role in a society that often needs to be reminded to look beyond the surface.

This mandala, rooted in various cultural traditions, signifies harmony, unity, and the interconnectivity of the planet's ecosystems. The floral ornaments within it blossom as symbols of flourishing harmony, but the contrasting inclusion of flames starkly reminds viewers of the ever-looming threat of global warming. • While Supplies Last Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Shepard Fairey- OBEY While Supplies Last Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

While Supplies Last Hand-Pulled 4-Color Silkscreen Print on Cream Speckletone Fine Art Paper by Artist Shepard Fairey Limited Edition Pop Art Artwork. 2019 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 500 Artwork Size 24x12 “The “While Supplies Last” print is a combination of several approaches to image making that I enjoy, and also find versatile and impactful. I have worked in modular ways utilizing repetition for both practical and conceptual reasons. I like the soothing repetition of patterns while I also see them as a pleasing decorative device to balance the more confrontational nature of some of my messages. Flowers have been consistent motifs in my work as symbols of positive growth and harmony. Humor is also a way I deliver challenging statements. “While Supplies Last” employs all of those approaches to basically convey the idea that things like flowers that we mostly take for granted will be sorely missed when the scorched planet will no longer grow them. Of course, the concept extends much further than just flowers, but flowers are a pretty universally relatable symbol. Whatever you treasure from nature, protect it so their supply is renewable. A portion of proceeds from this print will benefit Greenpeace USA to support its efforts to combat climate change and environmental recklessness.” -Shepard Fairey Shepard Fairey's work is highly political and social, not only because he is incorporating politicians and slogans in it but more importantly because the artist is primarily interested in approaching as many people as possible, exhibiting his work in the covers of the books, which we read, in the music albums, to which we listen, and on the walls of the streets, where we walk. “If I put art in a daring spot, it’s more moving to the viewer and demonstrates my conviction.”, he says. After all, Fairey, in many cases, directly expresses his views on politics and society, whenever he is given the chance. For example, in the aftermath of the “Hope” poster, he commented the following: “Obama has had a really tough time, but there have been a lot of things that he's compromised on that I never would have expected. I mean, drones and domestic spying are the last things I would have thought [he'd support]”. The political aspect of his work can, also, be seen under the spectrum of Fairey’s activism and humanitarian activity. Many of his works have been created as part of activism campaigns or were sold to support causes relevant to the Arts, animal rights, poverty, medical research, the environment, etc. The artist, however, doesn’t identify himself as an activist: “People ask me if I’m an activist, and my answer is no. I’m an artist with a point of view, but I want to do my part to supplement activist causes I believe in. I feel fortunate to connect with people who find my imagery useful and help spread it.”

Modular Silkscreen Print by Add Fuel x Shepard Fairey- OBEY Hand-Pulled on Cream Speckletone Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Artwork Obey Pop Culture Artist. 2022 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 500 Artwork Size 18x24 Silkscreen Print "Diogo Machado aka ADD FUEL’s art functions on several levels literally and metaphorically. His pieces master the aesthetics of traditional Portuguese tile work while adding his own playful character illustrations subversively woven into the designs. These two seemingly disparate styles are so elegantly blended together that discovering the oddity within the harmony is both bizarre and joyful. The actual and faux rips ADD FUEL incorporates into his art are more than just a nod to paper, the common material of modern street art, they’re also a provocative bit of visual dissonance since tiles don’t rip. Despite the incongruity of tiles and rips, ADD FUEL’s visually seductive compositions evoke a sense of time passed and a story behind each layer." -Shepard Fairey- OBEY In the sphere of contemporary art, the collaborative silkscreen print by Add Fuel and Shepard Fairey represents a unique fusion of traditional motifs and modern sensibilities. This limited edition piece, restricted to a run of 500 and signed and numbered by the artists, is a striking example of pop culture artistry on a cream speckletone fine art paper, measuring 18x24 inches. Created in 2022, this 5-color hand-pulled print showcases the distinct styles of both artists, marrying the classical aesthetic of Portuguese tile design with the urban edge of graffiti art. Diogo Machado, who operates under the alias Add Fuel, reimagines the conventional ceramic tile as a canvas for street art. His contribution to this print is distinguished by the intricate simulation of traditional tile patterns, interspersed with his characteristic playful characters that add a layer of whimsy and critique. The interplay of these detailed designs with Shepard Fairey's iconic Obey imagery lends the work a complex, layered narrative. Fairey, a luminary in the street art movement, brings his bold graphics and propagandistic flair to the collaboration, creating a visual dialogue between past and present artistic expressions. The print's allure is amplified by the intentional 'rips' trailing its surface. This clever trompe l'oeil effect disrupts the tilework's permanence with the ephemeral nature of paper, a staple medium for street artists. These artificial tears challenge viewers' perceptions, hinting at the transient nature of art and commentary on the fragility of cultural heritage. As Fairey noted, the juxtaposition of durable ceramic and tearable paper forms a compelling contrast that is visually arresting and conceptually profound. This artwork transcends the boundaries of its medium, inviting contemplation on the evolution of artistic expression and the enduring impact of cultural symbols. In this union of Add Fuel's meticulous craftsmanship and Shepard Fairey's aggressive style, a new narrative emerges, one that celebrates both individual creativity and the collective memory encapsulated within traditional art forms.

An emblem of countercultural movement, Fairey's piece presents a striking juxtaposition of the serene blue lotus flower against the industrial backdrop of electric power lines. Cast on Speckletone Fine Art Paper, this hand-pulled screen print not only exemplifies the artist's meticulous craftsmanship but also carries a poignant and timely message. The "Flower Power" series, which this print is a part of, stands as a clarion call for humanity's pivot from environmentally harmful fossil fuels to more sustainable energy sources. This transition, as Fairey suggests, is not just a matter of technological or economic feasibility; it is an imperative for the continuity of life as we understand it. The reference to Naomi Klein's "This Changes Everything" underscores the severity of the looming climate crisis, offering readers a comprehensive analysis of our current ecological predicament and the urgency with which we must act. Beyond its aesthetic appeal and socio-political commentary, the artwork demonstrates Fairey's commitment to environmental advocacy. Proceeds from the sale of these prints are directed to 350.org, an organization at the forefront of the global movement to address climate change. Such initiatives are emblematic of Fairey's approach to art — one that is not just visually stimulating but also deeply rooted in activism and the broader call to collective action. Through this masterful piece, Shepard Fairey once again reiterates the power of art in shaping conversations, influencing change, and fostering a more conscious global community.

Nature

Nature can be a powerful and versatile subject in graffiti street pop art. Artists can use natural elements such as trees, flowers, and animals to create stunning murals that reflect their connection to the environment and their appreciation for the beauty of the natural world. One popular approach to incorporating nature into graffiti street pop art is to create large-scale murals that depict realistic or stylized versions of natural subjects. For example, an artist might paint a towering tree that stretches across an entire wall, or a brightly colored bird that appears to be taking flight. These types of murals can be incredibly impactful, as they capture the majesty and wonder of the natural world in a way that is both awe-inspiring and accessible to viewers. Another approach is to use natural elements as part of a larger composition. For example, an artist might incorporate leaves or vines into a more abstract design, using them as a way to add texture, color, and depth to the piece. This can create a dynamic and visually compelling work of art that is both abstract and organic. Finally, some artists use nature as a way to make political or social statements. For example, an artist might create a mural that depicts an endangered animal or a tree that has been cut down, drawing attention to the impacts of human activities on the environment. This type of art can be a powerful way to raise awareness and inspire action on environmental issues. Nature is a rich and endlessly inspiring subject for graffiti street pop art. By incorporating natural elements into their work, artists can create beautiful and thought-provoking pieces that connect viewers to the environment and encourage them to appreciate and protect the natural world.
