Peter Keil (born 6 August 1942) is a German artist known for his Neo-Expressionist paintings. Born in Züllichau, now Sulechów, Poland, Keil was raised in Germany and studied art at the University of Arts in West Berlin. He was also mentored by German painter Otto Nagel. Keil's style is characterized by his bold use of color, abstract forms, and expressive brushwork. His paintings often depict people, animals, and urban scenes, with a focus on capturing the emotional essence of his subjects rather than realistic representation. Over the years, his style has evolved, with his earlier works featuring more representational imagery and a darker color palette. During the 1970s and 1980s, Keil became a prominent figure in the Neo-Expressionist movement, which sought to revive the emotional intensity and gestural style of earlier Expressionist art. He was part of the "Neue Wilde" (New Wild Ones) group of artists in Germany, which also included Rainer Fetting, Salomé, and Helmut Middendorf. Peter Keil's works have been exhibited in galleries and museums across the world, and his paintings are held in numerous private and public collections. His distinctive style continues to be influential and celebrated in the world of contemporary art.
