This depiction intriguingly showcases Guan Yin, traditionally seen as a symbol of mercy and compassion, throwing hand signs, a gesture frequently seen in street art. The upper body and face of Mickey Mouse are cloaked in black, offering an intense contrast against the vibrant backdrop and evoking a sense of mystery. The inspiration behind this distinctive portrayal stems from OG Slick's childhood memories of Chinatown. There, small figurines placed at store registers were believed to bestow good fortune upon the shop owner and those who offered money. This traditional practice is cleverly juxtaposed with a modern twist in the artwork, where Guan Yin is illustrated being showered with digital currency, hinting at the evolving dynamics of value, faith, and the digital age. Through "Ink Head Slick Yellow", OG Slick has once again demonstrated his unique ability to amalgamate cultural symbols, childhood memories, and urban influences, creating an art piece that resonates deeply with both traditional and contemporary sentiments.

KAWS' foray into this medium with "Clean Slate" is a nod to the historical significance of printmaking in disseminating ideas and art to a broader public. This is particularly relevant in Street Pop Art, where accessibility and mass communication are vital tenets. KAWS' "Clean Slate" continues this tradition by offering a piece of the artist's vision in a format that, while limited, allows for a more significant number of art enthusiasts to engage with his work. The collaboration with Brand X Editions, a notable print shop, ensures that "Clean Slate" is a work of art and a masterpiece of the printmaker's craft. This technique is in harmony with the ethos of Street Pop Art, where the artist's hand is evident in every line and layer, echoing the textured surfaces of urban environments that street artists often use as canvases. KAWS' Artistic Legacy and the Evolving Landscape of Street-Inspired Art The artistic legacy of KAWS is indelibly linked to his ability to transcend the boundaries between street art and fine art. His works, including the "Clean Slate" silkscreen print, are cultural milestones that chart the evolving landscape of urban-inspired art. KAWS' approach is characterized by a fusion of design, art, and branding, resulting in immediately recognizable and widely celebrated creations. The "Clean Slate" print is a testament to his skill in navigating the art world's various levels, from subways and sidewalks to galleries and museums. As Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork continue to gain recognition and legitimacy within the art historical canon, KAWS' "Clean Slate" print exemplifies the potential of these genres to produce profound, collectible, and critically acclaimed works. The print's existence within the context of a museum's anniversary celebration indicates the growing respect for street-inspired art and its creators. It is a sign that the once-clear lines separating high art from street culture are increasingly blurred, with artists like KAWS leading the way in this artistic revolution.

Shepard Fairey, a renowned graffiti street artist, is known for intertwining pop culture, street art, and pressing social issues in his works, and this piece is no exception. "The AK-47 Lotus and AR-15 Lily large format serigraphs are inspired by Vietnam War protesters who would put flowers in the gun barrels of the National Guard who were brought in to suppress their protests for peace. I’m a pacifist, whether that means finding diplomatic solutions to prevent and avoid war internationally or finding diplomatic solutions to prevent and avoid gun violence at home. I’m not anti- Second Amendment, so trolls can calm down… I’m not interested in macho blathering, I just want fewer people to die unnecessarily. Brady United is doing good work preventing gun violence so they will receive a portion of proceeds from these two prints. Thanks for caring." -Shepard Fairey

First found on the streets of New York this pup found its way into the studio and really came to life. We've been pushing our shimmering print process lately and this felt like the perfect print to introduce this into our practice. Four different editions, two in red glitter and two in black glitter. All stained, sprayed, painted and printed; it's all the hallmarks of a studio print now with a lot more shine. Using the words of the artists themselves, the artwork “gives a person the sense that it is there just for them. That they've stumbled across this great little gem amidst the chaos of daily life that can really speak to them. We try to build in a certain ambiguity that leaves the door open for the viewer to find themselves within the story.” This relational character of the FAILE’s art corresponds and becomes amplified by their consistent travel and lack of a permanent studio until the mid-2000s. This resulted in the duo’s embracement and utilization of urban streets and, naturally, gave the produced work a “site-specific” character since public art inevitably adjusts itself to the location of the display.

The muted tones of these pieces reflect a more somber state of mind, in which I simply have not felt it appropriate to make bright and colorful work. These times have felt uncertain and undefined. It’s been difficult to make plans for the future, when the present has felt so uncertain. Likewise, to make very colorful and “happy” work, has felt a bit tone deaf to the larger worldwide situation. I still feel the need to create and to make beautiful things, but I am exploring a more quiet aspect of that creativity." –Jet Martinez

"Created during the Iraq war, but the quest for peace requires perpetual vigilance, and the current invasion of Ukraine is a reminder of the brutality of war. The “War By Numbers” image is a statement about not becoming desensitized by war to the extent that it becomes as banal as a paint-by-numbers image. The “Peace Elephant” is an appeal to our sense of Karma and harmony with the world around us." - Shepard Fairey A profound intersection of artistry and activism emerges in "War By Numbers VSE- OG Colorway," an emblematic piece presented by the collaborative brilliance of Shepard Fairey, Ernesto Yerena Montejano, Hecho Con Ganas, and Obey. The piece emerges as an enduring reminder of the costs of warfare, particularly with the poignant backdrop of the recent Ukraine invasion. Fairey astutely draws attention to the dangers of becoming inured to the horrors of conflict, suggesting that society must never allow war's devastation to become as commonplace and mundane as a paint-by-numbers image. This sentiment is further emphasized by the inclusion of the "Peace Elephant," symbolizing the universal aspiration for harmony and an appeal to humanity's collective conscience. In the vast realm of pop art, street art, and graffiti, "War By Numbers" stands as a testament to art's ability to transcend aesthetic appeal, challenging viewers to confront and engage with the world's most pressing issues.
