Nowadays, graffiti in the form of prints has taken the world by storm. This is the case for graffiti prints, which often follow the same styles, techniques, or even use of materials but on a different scale and on top of a series of different media instead of the typical use of public walls. However, it is, also, possible that artists use other kinds of resources, more usually found inside art studios, such as pens, watercolors, oil paint e.tc, which are not conventionally utilized for the creation of works on the streets. Simultaneously, graffiti in the form of prints digital or handmade allows the artists to take their time and focus on the creative process without having to take into consideration the legal consequences of creating on public sites. Nonetheless, undoubtedly the greatest advantage of prints over traditional graffiti is the fact that it can be exhibited multiply in different parts of the same city or even in a series of different cities or countries worldwide. Finally, graffiti prints seem to a certain extent to last longer in comparison with art that exists exclusively on the streets, where local authorities tend to clean or cover up numerous pieces due to their illegal status. On the other hand, exactly due to their creation behind closed doors, drawings tend to win less visibility, since they are not exposed to the public on an everyday basis. Graffiti emerged in the US during the late 1960s and, naturally, since then till our days, almost 50 years later, this art has gone through a lot of stages of reformation. Aspects of the creative process such as the materials in use and the techniques have evolved tremendously, as well as the perception of graffiti as a respectable form of art. On top of that, the former “writers” or “taggers” are now referred to as artists, a development that arose with the evergrowing institutionalization and commercialization of graffiti. Needless to say, graffiti has never ceased to exist in public sight and with time authorities all over the world have come to accept to a certain extent the presence of it inside the city web. As a result, the legal status of “writing” has enabled artists to experiment more freely with new materials and techniques, a development that has emerged especially during the past decade.

Purchase Freedom For Humanity- Chrome Limited Edition Serigraph Print with Chrome Foil on Hand-Deckled 290gsm Coventry Rag Fine Art Paper by Mear One graffiti street artist modern pop art. "This piece 'Freedom For Humanity' is a symbol of the attitude we should be taking when it comes to our rights as human beings. It’s a play on George Orwell’s 'Newspeak' from his novel 1984 where he combines and condenses words to create a new language. Language is so important for understanding what it means to truly be free, yet it is constantly being eroded, redefined, and replaced to suit the corporations and superficial consumer pop-culture trends for profit.People need translation out of our current language based on greed towards a more meaningful and insightful existence, using language based on our humanity, sharing, and cooperation. I want to inspire critical thought on the implementation of 'Newspeak' in our current Orwellian, media-blitzed reality." - Mear One Custom Rustic Marigold Yellow Picture Frame.

Purchase False Profits- Gold Leaf Limited Edition 11-Color Gold Leaf Serigraph on Hand-Deckled 290gsm Coventry Rag Paper by Mear One graffiti street artist modern pop art. "This silkscreen is based on a 2012 mural I painted off Brick Lane in the Shoreditch community of East London. I originally titled this piece “Freedom For Humanity” and experienced loads of controversy over the subject matter at the time of its creation. The mural, done entirely in spray paint, depicted a group of fat, old, decrepit white men playing a game of Monopoly on the backs of the working class. My critique of the elite banking cartels brought a standard response from the conservative contingent in London who swiftly conspired to have the piece silenced, but not before the BBC was able to televise the developing controversy surrounding the mural. A heated debate went on for about 4 weeks until finally my mural was buffed by the local governing authorities, thus silencing the message and preventing the conversation from reaching any more viewers. The message was too strong for some to cope with, but I know it was timely and relevant and it needed to be said. With the global economic situation collapsing financial systems across the planet we need more critical thought that shows resistance to this blatant disregard for humanity." - Mear One
