  • Tom Dula Black AP Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Shepard Fairey- OBEY Tom Dula Black AP Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Tom Dula Black AP Artist Proof Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY Hand-Pulled on Cream Speckletone Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Artwork Obey Pop Culture Artist. AP Artist Proof 2012 Signed & Marked AP Limited Edition Artwork Size 18x24 Silkscreen Print—Lonesome Tree Stylized Old Gnarled Tree in Western Desert Setting. Thomas C. Dula was a former Confederate soldier who was convicted of murdering Laura Foster, based on a song made famous by Kingston Trio. Shepard Fairey's "Tom Dula Black AP" is a silkscreen print that fuses historical narrative with the artist's signature graphic style. Created in 2012, this piece is part of a limited edition set, hand-pulled with a color process on Fairey’s preferred medium, cream speckletone fine art paper. Each print in the series bears Fairey's signature and the distinctive 'AP' mark, denoting it as an Artist Proof. This status is often valued due to its rarity and direct connection to the artist's initial vision. Measuring 18x24 inches, the artwork presents a lone, stylized tree in a desolate Western desert setting. The barren landscape serves as a symbolic backdrop to the sad tale of Thomas C. Dula, a former Confederate soldier whose name became immortalized in the folk song "Tom Dooley" following his controversial conviction and execution for the murder of Laura Foster. Fairey's choice to represent this narrative through a stark and solitary tree amidst an arid terrain reflects the isolation and finality of Dula's fate. This print stands out in pop and street art for its storytelling through visual symbolism. The work does not merely capture viewers' attention with its aesthetic but also invites them to engage with a deeper historical narrative, a characteristic often found in Fairey's body of work. It showcases the artist's ability to navigate the intersection of pop culture and fine art, where historical references become part of the modern visual lexicon. Shepard Fairey’s work frequently contains layers of meaning with a propensity for social commentary. With "Tom Dula Black AP," the art is not only about presenting a visual narrative but also evoking an emotional response that connects the historical past with contemporary culture. This piece is a poignant example of how street art can transcend its urban origins, entering the gallery space as a powerful storytelling medium that bridges historical context and modern expression.

  • God Is Dead, But...#13 Archival Print by Hikari Shimoda

Hikari Shimoda God Is Dead, But...#13 Archival Print by Hikari Shimoda

God Is Dead, But...#13 Archival Print by Hikari Shimoda Limited Edition on 290gsm Moab Entrada Fine Art Paper Pop Graffiti Street Artist Modern Artwork. 2023 Signed & Numbered Print Limited Edition of 50 Size 22x22 Archival Pigment Fine Art The Cultural Significance of Hikari Shimoda's "God Is Dead, But...#13" The visual narrative of Hikari Shimoda's "God Is Dead, But...#13" reflects a profound narrative through Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork. As a limited edition archival print on Moab Entrada fine art paper, this piece is a testament to Shimoda's prowess in melding pop culture aesthetics with a graffiti art ethos. The piece is part of a limited edition of 50, each signed and numbered by the artist, underscoring the exclusivity and collectibility of Shimoda's work. At 22x22 inches, the artwork commands attention with its size and the potency of its message. The Visual Language of "God Is Dead, But...#13" This artwork is a vibrant foray into the complex emotional and societal narratives Shimoda is renowned for. It features a childlike figure, a recurring motif in Shimoda's oeuvre, set against a backdrop that radiates a dreamlike yet unsettling energy. Large and filled with galaxies, the eyes suggest a universe of thought and feeling beyond the immediate visual impact. This symbolism is characteristic of Street Pop Art's intention to communicate deeper meanings beneath a visually accessible surface. The use of archival pigment in fine art print ensures that the depth of color and detail remains pristine, preserving the emotional intensity of the original work. Shimoda's Integration of Street Art Ideals in Modern Artwork In "God Is Dead, But...#13," Shimoda exemplifies how Street Pop Art can transcend the boundaries of traditional graffiti artwork to enter the realm of fine art. The piece is not just a representation of Shimoda's internal musings but also a cultural commentary that reflects the zeitgeist. The title itself, "God Is Dead," resonates with the philosophical musings of Friedrich Nietzsche, suggesting a society amid existential contemplation. This aligns with the ethos of street art, which often grapples with grand narratives of existence and identity within the urban landscape. The Emotional Resonance in Shimoda's Limited Edition Print The emotional resonance of this piece is palpable. The child's expression is ambiguous, caught between innocence and a knowing sadness that speaks to the loss of divine certainty implied by the title. The tears that seem to be galaxies suggest mourning this loss or perhaps crying out for a new form of divinity or hope within the void. The choice of fine art paper and the precision of the archival pigment technique adds a layer of durability to the transient nature of the subject, allowing the work to stand as a lasting icon of contemporary Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork. In crafting "God Is Dead, But...#13," Shimoda asserts her place in the modern art world, proving that Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork have a vital role in contemporary art discourse. Her limited edition print is not just a collector's item but a piece of cultural significance that encapsulates the spirit of our times.

  • Devilman Silkscreen Print by Mike Sutfin

Mike Sutfin Devilman Silkscreen Print by Mike Sutfin

Devilman Limited Edition 9-Color Hand-Pulled Silkscreen Print on Fine Art Paper by Mike Sutfin, Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 2015 Limited Edition of 300 Artwork measuring 18" x 24", these prints needed eight screens and nine colors to capture their vibrancy on the 100# c stock French Pop-Tone Berrylicious paper used, and the back view of the character is printed on the reverse side of the print. Mike Sutfin's Devilman: A Symphony of Color and Chaos The "Devilman" limited edition silkscreen print by Mike Sutfin is a formidable example of how street pop art and graffiti artwork can bring together vibrancy, intensity, and a touch of the macabre. This 2015 piece, a limited edition of 300, captures the essence of its subject matter through a stunning 9-color palette applied via eight screens onto 100# c stock French Pop-Tone Berrylicious paper. Measuring 18x24 inches, the artwork showcases Sutfin's mastery in a modern pop art context, providing a fiery representation of the titular character with a complexity that demands attention. The Artistic Process Behind Devil man's Creation The creation of "Devilman" is a testament to the meticulous silkscreen printing process. The requirement of 8 screens for the nine colors used in the piece illustrates the intricate layering process that imbues the artwork with depth and dynamism. The process is detailed, requiring precision and a keen eye for detail to ensure that each layer of color sits perfectly upon the last, building up to create the final arresting image. This technique, while traditional in its roots, is brought to life in a new way through Sutfin's skillful hands, blending the boundaries between street art and fine art. Interpreting Devilman: Street Pop Art Meets Mythology Sutfin's "Devilman" is more than a visual spectacle; it explores mythology, character design, and the eternal dance between good and evil. The figure stands amidst flames, a visual nod to the hellish realms often associated with devils and demons. Yet, the character is not merely a representation of evil. The complexity of the image, with its vibrant colors and detailed linework, suggests a narrative that goes beyond the binary of good versus evil. It speaks to the inner battles that rage within, the fiery potential for destruction and rebirth in every individual. The decision to print a back view of the character on the reverse side of the print adds a layer of depth to the artwork, inviting viewers to consider the many sides of the character – and themselves. This duality is a common theme in street pop art, where the surface image often belies a more profound story waiting to be uncovered by those who look closely enough. Mike Sutfin's "Devilman" is a powerful example of modern pop art's ability to combine traditional techniques with contemporary themes. The artwork stands as a beacon within the genre, showcasing how street pop art and graffiti can transcend their urban origins to enter the realm of collectible fine art. Through works like "Devilman," artists like Sutfin continue to push the boundaries of street art while also honoring the rich, colorful, and sometimes dark stories that have always been at the heart of human expression.

  • Diamond FAILEdoodle- Red/Black Silkscreen Print by Faile

Diamond FAILEdoodle- Red/Black 2-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen, Acrylic, Spraypaint, Silkscreen Ink and Glitter Print on Archival Lenox Paper by Faile Rare Street Art Famous Pop Artwork Artist. 2022 Diamond FAILEdoodle: Red/Black 19 x 25 Inches Each variant an edition of 25 Acrylic, Spraypaint, Silkscreen Ink and Glitter on Archival Lenox 100 Signed, Stamped and Embossed A new breed of Faile Dog was born last year. First found on the streets of New York this pup found its way into the studio and really came to life. We've been pushing our shimmering print process lately and this felt like the perfect print to introduce this into our practice. Four different editions, two in red glitter and two in black glitter. All stained, sprayed, painted and printed; it's all the hallmarks of a studio print now with a lot more shine. Using the words of the artists themselves, the artwork “gives a person the sense that it is there just for them. That they've stumbled across this great little gem amidst the chaos of daily life that can really speak to them. We try to build in a certain ambiguity that leaves the door open for the viewer to find themselves within the story.” This relational character of the FAILE’s art corresponds and becomes amplified by their consistent travel and lack of a permanent studio until the mid-2000s. This resulted in the duo’s embracement and utilization of urban streets and, naturally, gave the produced work a “site-specific” character since public art inevitably adjusts itself to the location of the display.

  • Reverend Horton Heat Tenderloin Twang Rang Hi-Fi 1994 Chicago IL Silkscreen Print by Frank Kozik

Frank Kozik Reverend Horton Heat Tenderloin Twang Rang Hi-Fi 1994 Chicago IL Silkscreen Print by Frank Kozik

Reverend Horton Heat Tenderloin Twang Rang Hi-Fi 1994 Chicago IL Silkscreen Print by Frank Kozik Hand-Pulled on Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Pop Street Art Artwork. 1994 Signed by Kozik & Numbered Limited Edition of 500 Artwork Size 22x18 Silkscreen Print Band Gig Poster by Frank Kozik. Reverend Horton Heat Tenderloin Twang Rang Hi-Fi Road Burners Metro Chicago, Illinois 9-17-1994 The "Reverend Horton Heat Tenderloin Twang Rang Hi-Fi 1994 Chicago IL" silkscreen print is a vibrant representation of the intersection where music meets visual art, crafted by the renowned artist Frank Kozik. Dated in 1994, this limited edition piece, with only 500 signed and numbered prints, captures the essence of the concert gig poster with a distinct pop art flair. Measuring 22x18 inches, it was created to promote a live music event on September 17, 1994, featuring the Reverend Horton Heat alongside Tenderloin and Twang Rang Hi-Fi Road Burners at the Metro in Chicago, Illinois. Kozik's use of bold colors and a cartoonish fox wearing a cowboy hat embodies the energy and eccentricity of the bands, particularly the headlining psychobilly band known for its lively and raucous performances. This artwork is more than a mere announcement of an event; it is a piece of history, a testament to the culture of the mid-90s, and a collector's item for enthusiasts of music, pop art, and street art alike. Frank Kozik's style is evident in the poster's design, which features thick outlines, flat areas of color, and an absence of shading reminiscent of comic book art—a hallmark of Kozik's work. Such posters are not only advertisements but also artifacts of cultural significance. They represent a time when street art was becoming increasingly recognized as a legitimate art form, blurring the lines between the highbrow and the accessible, the elite and the streetwise. These prints also speak to the nature of street art's fleeting existence. While street art is often temporary, subject to the whims of weather and the ever-changing urban landscape, silkscreen prints like this capture ephemeral quality and preserve it in a form that can be collected, traded, and displayed. Kozik's work, especially this print, serves as a physical snapshot of the street art movement as it began to infiltrate and influence the broader pop culture, reflecting a time when the underground started to surface and claim space on the walls of fans and collectors worldwide.

  • Black Sabbath Silver Black Crescent Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Shepard Fairey- OBEY Black Sabbath Silver Black Crescent Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Black Sabbath Silver Black Crescent Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY Hand-Pulled on Cream Speckletone Fine Art Paper Limited Edition Artwork Obey Pop Culture Artist. 2013 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 125 Artwork Size 18x24 Silkscreen Print of Metal Roc n' Roll Music Band Black Sabbath Featuring Ozzy Osbourne. "Black Sabbath has been one of my favorite bands for 25 years. I was fortunate to meet Jack Osbourne through my friend Big Dave in 2000. My relationship with Jack and Big Dave has led to several great Ozzy and Sabbath projects. One of my biggest “I’m not worthy!” moments occurred when Dave took me backstage to meet the Sabbath guys in 2004 at Ozzfest, and bassist and lyricist Geezer Butler was wearing an Obey shirt! Sabbath is still a phenomenal live band, and I’m incredibly honored to do my second(the first was in 2005) Sabbath/Obey tour poster. Sabbath released a great new record called “13” recently(produced by Rick Rubin) and are touring in support of the album." -Shepard Fairey- OBEY. Shepard Fairey's Interpretation of Black Sabbath's Legacy In 2013, Fairey, inspired by Black Sabbath's influence on his life and art, created a limited edition silkscreen print to commemorate the band's U.S.A. tour. This signed and numbered edition, limited to 125 pieces and sized at 18x24 inches, became an emblem of Black Sabbath's enduring impact on rock music and a collectible piece of street pop art. The artwork, hand-pulled on cream speckletone fine art paper, features iconic Black Sabbath symbols, such as the cross and the winged disc, alongside Fairey's signature style, which often includes elements like the star and the stylized imagery of the eye. The fusion of street pop art with music often manifests in gig posters, a medium that Shepard Fairey, known widely for his OBEY brand, has mastered with a distinctive style that resonates deeply within the pop culture landscape. His work for the iconic metal rock n' roll music band Black Sabbath, particularly the silver and black crescent silkscreen print, encapsulates the essence of the artist's and the band's legacies. The significance of Fairey's Black Sabbath artwork lies in its ability to bridge music's auditory experience with art's visual stimulus. The print does not merely represent the band; it evokes the rebellious spirit of Black Sabbath's music, the dark and mystical themes they explore, and the cultural movement they spearheaded within the heavy metal genre. Fairey's artistic trademarks, such as the word 'obey,' infuses the piece with a sense of authority and provocation that complements the band's ethos. Collectibility and Influence in the Art World Fairey's anecdote about meeting the band and finding Geezer Butler wearing an OBEY shirt is a testament to the reciprocal influence between artist and musician. It underlines how street pop art and music often come full circle, with artists influencing musicians and vice versa. The print is a celebration of the band's return with the album "13" and a nod to the historical relationship between the artist and Black Sabbath. It is this narrative that imbues the artwork with a personal touch, making it a profound statement within the realms of both pop culture and street art. As a collectible, the Black Sabbath silkscreen print by Shepard Fairey stands at the intersection of music memorabilia and fine art. Its scarcity and the reputation of its creator heighten its value not only in monetary terms but also as a cultural artifact. Collectors and fans seek such pieces for their aesthetic appeal and their ability to capture a moment in history, a period where music and street pop art intertwine to create a tangible representation of a musical era. In the broader spectrum of street pop art and graffiti artwork, Shepard Fairey's Black Sabbath print represents the genre's potential to transcend the streets and enter into the world of high art and collector's items. The piece, with its intricate design work and deep cultural connections, stands as a testament to the power of visual art to celebrate and immortalize the spirit of music.

The intricate watercolor work accentuates the textures and contours of the subject, drawing the viewer's gaze into the complexities of its expression. The creature's eyes hold a world-weariness that belies its otherworldly appearance, prompting reflection on the shared experiences that transcend the boundaries of reality. Hattori's custom framing and matting are not merely protective measures but integral components of the artwork's overall impact. The decision to frame the piece underscores the importance of context in presenting art. For Hattori, the frame is a gateway, inviting the viewer into the surreal world he has created on paper. It symbolizes the transition from the artist's mind to the viewer's world, allowing "Goonie 038" to reside within a space that honors its unique character. Naoto Hattori's "Goonie 038" is a small yet mighty representation of the artist's surreal vision, offering a window into a world that challenges and expands the viewer's perception. While it may occupy a different space than traditional street pop art and graffiti artwork, it shares the same spirit of rebellion against the ordinary and a desire to disrupt and enchant. Through "Goonie 038," Hattori has created a piece that stands as a compelling contribution to the world of surreal art, which holds the power to mesmerize and provoke thought in equal measure.

Turk Street AP 01 Original Painting Spray Paint Aerosol on Coventry Rag Fine Art Paper by Apexer Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. "When I paint on the street I like to have fun. I'm always trying new ideas out that turn into more ideas. In this painting, I wanted to have two drastically different fill-in styles. So the top half is a classic fill of mine and in the bottom half, I play with the idea of different color chrome effects. It was a fun piece to paint in the heart of San Francisco. This piece is all part of my artistic vocabulary. This particular one says apex and I was painting in the super burner style, but I was really trying to push the ideas of color and style." - Apexer

The name of this print run has a double meaning to me. I decided to release it on August 5th to pay tribute to the Beastie Boys legend MCA (Adam Yauch); his birthday. Growing up, just about every day after school I would grab my basketball and head to the park or Boy's Club for some pickup games. Most of the time it was Beastie Boys on my walkman when I made the walk. They have always been a big influence on me. Also, no sleep till I feel confident with enough artwork for a solo show in Brooklyn. It may be a few years out, but I will keep trying to juggle family life, a regular job, and artwork with many late nights... -Tim Oliveira

Which is an Artist Residency that provides studio space and exhibit space for Detroit artists. This body of work was inspired by the after-hours environment as well as the landscape here in Detroit. This city is a gold mine for aging liquor store signs, and other hand-painted signs. There is a folk-art quality to the entire city and I wanted to bring that into a more specific subject. This piece is a collection of vintage beer cans that I like." - Jesse Kassel

There is a violent history of police dogs being used to attack civil rights protesters, which contrasts intensely with the blissful perspective of white dog owners who pamper their dogs and hire dog walkers. Some of us never have to think about how the police abuse their power more frequently in non-white and lower-income communities. This “Sadistic Dog Walker” image encourages us to be aware of the “two Americas.” – Shepard

It's a dynamic example of how graffiti transcends the street context, entering the realm of fine art with boldness and authenticity. The artwork size is 16x20 inches, a substantial format that allows the intricate details and vibrant colors to stand out, encapsulating the viewer in its visual rhythm. His work is characterized by a mastery of color and shape, bringing together the raw energy of the streets with the precision and skill of a classically trained artist. In "Piano Concerto 1," the influence of pop art is evident, with the inclusion of comic-strip motifs and bright, contrasting colors that pop against the glossy finish of the paper. Each print from the series showcases the unique blend of abstract and figurative elements that Crash is known for. What's particularly striking about this piece is the sense of movement conveyed through the composition — a symphonic burst akin to the musical crescendo of a piano concerto, hence the title. There's a playful yet deliberate layering of elements, from the cartoon-like hands to the splatters and drips, which creates an almost three-dimensional effect. This work is not just a static image; it captures the liveliness and improvisation central to street art and musical performances. Signed & Numbered Screen Print 18 x 24 inches Edition of 500 October 18, 2016 I’ve been a big fan of the band Franz Ferdinand since they first hit the scene in 2003. Stylistically, Franz mixes a pinch of glam rock, a nice serving of post-punk and a bit of dance-punk to create a sound that is irresistibly infectious. The band is undeniably stylish in their fashion and their album artwork which is frequently inspired by Russian Constructivism, one of my biggest inspirations as well. The lyrics of singer Alex Kapranos are witty, charming, and often insightful about human nature. Franz Ferdinand is a band of style and substance. -Shepard Fairey

Red Color Graffiti Street Pop Artwork

Red: A Bold Statement in Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork

Red in the Spectrum of Street Art Expression

Red, often seen as the most assertive and dynamic of all colors, casts its passionate hue across the expansive canvas of street pop art and graffiti artwork. With its bold nature, red is not just a color—it's a declaration, a visual exclamation that demands attention and conveys intensity. Its application in the urban art scene is diverse, from the deepest burgundies to the brightest scarlets, each shade imbued with its unique energy and symbolism.

Techniques and Textures: Red's Artistic Flexibility

Artistically, red's versatility is found in its ability to stand alone and its power to accentuate when paired with other colors. The techniques employed by street artists to apply red vary greatly, from aerosol sprays that offer a misty overlay to bold brush strokes that provide texture and depth. Red in street pop art is not merely a visual tool; it's a tactile experience. The texture of red paint can range from glossy finishes that reflect the city's lights to matte surfaces that absorb and soften the intensity of the hue, each technique chosen to convey a specific message or feeling.

Cultural Resonance of Red in Urban Imagery

Culturally, red has a potent resonance, often associated with powerful emotions and ideas such as love, anger, danger, and strength. Street pop art and graffiti leverage these associations to deliver impactful artwork that can resonate universally. The color red is frequently utilized to draw the viewer's focus to critical elements of a piece, highlighting areas the artist deems most significant or using the color's signal-like quality to convey cautionary messages and urgent statements.

Compositional Strategies with Red in Art

Regarding composition, red's role in street pop and graffiti artwork is multifaceted. It can starkly contrast cooler hues, creating a visual disruption that can energize or unsettle the viewer. Conversely, when red is set against warmer tones, it can evoke feelings of warmth and comfort. The strategic placement of red within a piece can alter the viewer's perception of space, with deeper reds receding in the visual field and brighter reds advancing, a technique artists use to create movement and depth.

Symbolic Use of Red in Street Pop Art and Graffiti

Symbolically, red is laden with meaning in the context of street pop art and graffiti. It's a color that signifies everything from political affiliations to personal identity. In the urban landscape, where art serves as a voice for the voiceless, red is often the color of choice for expressing defiance and resilience. Its application is deliberate, with artists selecting the shade of red that best communicates the spirit of their message.

Evolution of Red in Urban Artistic Practice

As we consider the evolution of color used in street art, red's significance only seems to amplify. Its historical use in political and protest art continues to influence contemporary artists, who see red as a means of connecting with a rich legacy of visual activism. With advances in paint technology and application methods, the vibrancy and longevity of red in street art have increased, allowing it to maintain its potency and message over time, even in the face of environmental challenges. Red's place in street pop art and graffiti is undeniable. It is a color that can elevate a piece from mere visual noise to a poignant statement. Its shades can signify many themes and messages, from the urgency of revolution to the pulse of love that beats through city streets. As an element of the urban visual lexicon, red is as essential as the very walls it adorns, a color that will continue to be used to captivate, communicate, and challenge viewers around the world.
