Roger Gastman

Roger Gastman is an American artist, curator, and author known for his work in the world of street art and graffiti. Born in 1977, he has been actively involved in the street art scene since the 1990s, and has played a significant role in bridging the gap between street art and mainstream culture. Gastman began his career as a graffiti artist and later transitioned to being a curator, historian, and advocate for the art form. He has authored and co-authored several books on graffiti and street art, such as "The History of American Graffiti," which he co-wrote with Caleb Neelon in 2010. In addition to his work in print, Gastman has also curated major exhibitions that focus on street art and graffiti. Notably, he co-curated the "Art in the Streets" exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles in 2011, which was one of the first major museum exhibitions to focus on the history of graffiti and street art. In 2018, Gastman curated the "BEYOND THE STREETS" exhibition in Los Angeles, which showcased the work of over 100 street artists from around the world. This successful exhibition traveled to New York City and later to other locations, solidifying Gastman's reputation as a leading figure in the street art world. As a champion of street art and graffiti, Roger Gastman continues to work with artists, galleries, and museums to promote the recognition and appreciation of these art forms within the broader art community.
