New York City Subway Maps IV Limited Edition Spray Paint Hand-Embellished HPM Archival Pigment Prints on Moab Fine Art Paper by Cope2 Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 2019 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 15 Artwork Size 17x24. New York City Subway Maps IV, 2019 Archival pigment print in colors with hand-embellishments on Moab Fine Art paper 17x24 inches (43.2 cm x 61) (sheet) Ed. 10/15 Signed and numbered in pencil lower left. Work displays a .5-inch tear in the lower left border. Embracing Urban Narratives: Cope2's New York City Subway Maps IV Cope2's "New York City Subway Maps IV" is a dynamic fusion of graffiti's raw energy with the refined aesthetics of modern Pop Art, embodying the pulse of urban life on a tangible artifact of the city's daily motion. This 2019 limited edition series, with only 15 signed and numbered pieces, represents a significant contribution to the Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork movement. Each 17x24 inch piece is a hand-embellished archival pigment print on Moab Fine Art paper, offering a unique blend of street culture and high art. Cope2's signature authenticates the work, and its edition number is penciled on the lower left, with one particular piece displaying a minor .5-inch tear, adding to the authentic feel of the artwork. The piece serves as a visual archive of New York's graffiti history, immortalizing the spontaneous, often temporary, art gracing the city's subway maps. Cope2, a Bronx native, brings authenticity and street credibility to his work, with a reputation for over three decades in the graffiti scene. His "New York City Subway Maps IV" reflects urban street art's layered, complex nature, where tags and symbols intermingle to tell the stories of the city's diverse inhabitants. Cope2's Intersection of Street Art and Fine Art Cope2's artwork stands at the intersection of street art and fine art, capturing the essence of one medium within the form of the other. His pieces are more than mere representations of street graffiti; they are the confluence of the artist's lived experiences and interactions with the urban environment. The bold, saturated colors and aggressive brushstrokes hark back to the golden era of graffiti in the 1980s and 1990s when artists like Cope2 were not just decorating the city but also marking territories and expressing identities. The limited edition nature of "New York City Subway Maps IV" and the hand-embellishments by Cope2 himself ensure that each print is a unique piece of art, embodying both the spirit of the original street art and the artist's personal touch. The series encapsulates the rawness of the graffiti subculture while elevating it through fine art printmaking, challenging traditional notions of what constitutes art and who is deemed an artist. In essence, Cope2's work is a celebration of the visual language of the streets, presented within the context of fine art. It offers a narrative deeply rooted in New York City's cultural fabric, providing a snapshot of a movement that has evolved from the margins to the mainstream. The "New York City Subway Maps IV" series not only pays homage to the history of street art but also asserts its place within the continuum of contemporary art. Through his work, Cope2 continues to influence and shape the dialogue around Street Pop Art and Graffiti Artwork, ensuring that the vibrancy of street culture remains a vital part of the art world's discourse.

This edition holds special significance as it was originally sold with Risk's monograph, "Old Habits Die Hard." The publication dives into Risk's influential role as one of the progenitors of the Los Angeles graffiti scene. His work and leadership helped catapult street art from its underground roots to a significant movement recognized worldwide. The monograph details Risk’s journey as an artist and his dedication to advancing not only his artistic expressions but also to contributing to the broader acceptance and appreciation of graffiti as a legitimate and powerful art form. Risk Rock's "Third Rail" stands as a potent representation of this transformative era in art, symbolizing the transition of graffiti from street corners to fine art galleries, and securing Risk’s legacy within the cultural tapestry of pop art, street art, and graffiti.

Tell Your Bumps Limited Edition Archival Pigment Print on 310gsm Fine Art Paper by Peeta Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. "This piece is part of a 2011 production. Most of the works I have painted during the last part of that year follow the same trend: the painting of fictional brush strokes over the 3d piece on canvas. The practice inspired me to create new volumetric and dynamic effects. Each time I paint a new canvas, I aim to discover the most optimal way to use colors, light and shade to reach a three-dimensional result. Layering splashes of color over the letters brings into keen focus their three-dimensionality, transforming them into real objects that not only cast shadows but also receive or obscure the subsequent blottings and swipes of paint." - Peeta

Freedom For Humanity- Chrome Limited Edition Serigraph Print with Chrome Foil on Hand-Deckled 290gsm Coventry Rag Fine Art Paper by Mear One Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 2016 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 20 Artwork Size 20x27 "This piece, 'Freedom For Humanity,' symbolizes the attitude we should be taking regarding our rights as human beings. It's a play on George Orwell's 'Newspeak' from his novel 1984, where he combines and condenses words to create a new language. Language is so important for understanding what it means to be truly free. Yet, it is constantly being eroded, redefined, and replaced to suit the corporations and superficial consumer pop-culture trends for profit. People need translation out of our current language based on greed towards a more meaningful and insightful existence, using language based on our humanity, sharing, and cooperation. I want to inspire critical thought on the implementation of 'Newspeak' in our current Orwellian, media-blitzed reality." - Mear One. Dissecting' Freedom For Humanity' by Mear One Mear One has established himself as a consequential artist in street pop art and graffiti artwork, with "Freedom For Humanity" being one of his most compelling works. This Chrome Limited Edition Serigraph Print is more than a mere aesthetic indulgence; it is a testament to the artist's impassioned plea for linguistic and intellectual freedom. Limited to a series of just twenty signed and numbered pieces, the 2016 artwork, sized 20x27 inches, is printed on hand-deckled 290gsm Coventry Rag Fine Art Paper. This choice underscores the premium quality and the exclusiveness of the print. The Semantic Revolution Embodied in Art Mear One's creation is an interplay of visual and verbal languages, a critical response to the perversion of words in our contemporary society. This piece reflects not just Orwell's concept of 'Newspeak' but a broader commentary on the state of language and its role in human freedom. The artist's use of chromatic intensity and stark contrasts on the fine art paper is an eye-catching element of modern pop art and serves as a metaphor for the clarity and vibrancy that should accompany human communication. The central figure, a striking representation of defiance, holds a sign that boldly demands "Freedom for Humanity," symbolizing the fight against the manipulation of language by corporate and political forces. Mear One's message is clear: the erosion of language and the commodification of words for profit and power threaten the very fabric of our society. The artist seeks to inspire a reevaluation of how language is wielded and perceived in the modern age. His work implores us to transcend a lexicon rooted in greed and forge one grounded in our collective humanity. The message is a rallying cry for cooperation, sharing, and a reassessment of our values as a civilization. Embracing a New Lexicon for Human Empowerment The artwork bridges street art's raw expressiveness and the sophisticated discourse on human liberties. "Freedom For Humanity" is not merely Mear One's call to action; it is an invitation to introspect on the corporatization of our language and, by extension, our thoughts and freedoms. Through his serigraph, Mear One channels the power of Street Pop Art and graffiti Artwork to ignite conversation and drive change. The piece doesn't just hang on a wall; it stands on the front lines of cultural discourse, challenging the viewer to break free from the Orwellian shackles of modern-day 'Newspeak.' Ultimately, "Freedom For Humanity" is a symbolic manifesto in art form. It is a reminder of the potency of words and the significance of their liberation. Mear One has contributed a visually stunning piece to the realm of Street Pop Art and graffiti Artwork and embedded a profound message of liberation and unity within it. His work stands as a beacon for those who seek to understand the true meaning of freedom in a world where language is continually at risk of being co-opted by those in power.

Anti-Graffiti Propaganda Case Study No.1 Limited Edition Archival Pigment Prints on 310gsm Fine Art Paper by Roger Gastman Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. "This piece continues within the Tools of Criminal Mischief series of spray paint cans and markers prints that I've been doing with 1xRun. I have a large collection of anti-graffiti paraphernalia: pamphlets, signs, pins, tee shirts, etc. This image was revisited and fine-tuned in 2013 but it's taken years and years of collecting and digging along with close friends sending me stuff. I am always on the hunt for more. A few years ago, Caleb Neelon and I wrote a book for Harper Collins, "The History of American Graffiti" and the endsheet patterns for that book were a collage of the items on this print. Whenever I give someone the book or they see it somewhere, they love the end sheet patterns and want to know more about it and how I got all of the items. I decided to open the files back up and add some color and re-envision the design to create a collage of the anti-graffiti propaganda. " - Roger Gastman

I really liked the texture and weathering of the timber on the back so that’s the side I chose to paint. The cheesy 50’s print is still on the other side. At the time I was working with a lot of found objects and customizing my letter style to suit them. I have always used layering in my work to create depth and reference to the gritty street walls that were my original canvas."- Dvate

Lately, I have transitioned mostly into mixed media paintings, but I've been doing hardcore graffiti, if you want to call it that, for thirty-plus years. It's what made me Cope2. But I like to change it up and show all my different styles. So, with this show, I can show my style evolution and how I've progressed. "Versatile" shows where I came from and what I'm doing now," -Cope2 Exploring Cope2's 'Detroit Tag Series- 6' Cope2, born Fernando Carlo, is a name that resonates with authority in graffiti and street art. His 'Detroit Tag Series- 6' is a powerful original painting that combines the raw energy of aerosol art with the precision of Krink markers on canvas. This piece, created in 2010, is a testament to his versatility and evolution as an artist who has been influential in the scene for over three decades. The Evolutionary Path of Cope2's Artistry Cope2's journey as an artist has seen him transition from the streets of the Bronx, where he earned his stripes as a graffiti writer, to the galleries that now house his canvas work. 'Detroit Tag Series- 6' reflects this journey, showcasing a mature style without losing the spontaneity and vigor of his early work. The piece, with dimensions of 20 x 12 x 1.5 inches, is a singular expression within a limited run, emphasizing Cope2's commitment to creating unique works that are personal and reflect his roots in street culture. Cope2 captures the essence of Detroit's urban landscape in this series through his iconic tag style. The bold, sweeping curves and sharp lines rendered in black against a striking red background indicate his confident hand, honed by years of practice. The use of Krink markers, known for their vibrant ink and durability, allows Cope2 to bring the immediacy and authenticity of street tagging to the canvas. Cope2's 'Versatile' Exhibition: A Display of Artistic Range The 'Detroit Tag Series- 6' was a highlight of Cope2's exhibition titled 'Versatile,' which showcased the breadth of his artistic repertoire. In his own words, the show was an opportunity to present the evolution of his style and his progression as an artist. Cope2's ability to navigate between the street and the studio, to exhibit the rawness of graffiti alongside the refinement of mixed media paintings, speaks to his adaptive approach to art-making. His work not only captures the essence of street pop art but also pushes its boundaries, inviting viewers to experience the dynamic nature of graffiti in new contexts. The exhibition was a narrative of growth, a visual documentation of Cope2's transition from street legend to a respected figure in contemporary art. 'Detroit Tag Series- 6' stands as a proud testament to the original spirit of street art while signaling Cope2's ongoing exploration of form, color, and medium. The Enduring Legacy of Cope2 in Street Art Cope2's impact on street pop art and graffiti artwork is indelible. 'Detroit Tag Series- 6' is a canvas and a chronicle of an artist's life-long dedication to his craft. Through this work and others like it, Cope2 demonstrates that graffiti is not a static art form but a living, evolving practice that continues to challenge and redefine artistic expression. As a pivotal figure in the graffiti world, Cope2's contributions extend beyond his artworks. He has inspired generations of artists to pick up the can and the marker, to make their mark on the world, and to express their voices in bold and unapologetic ways. Cope2 remains a vital presence in the art community; his work bridges the past and future of street art. His legacy is one of transformation, a reminder that art is constantly in motion, seeking new surfaces to conquer and stories to tell.

I Was Here Original Hand-Painted Multiple (HPM) on Wood Cradled Panel ready to hang by Denial Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 2016 Signed Limited Edition of 50 Artwork Size 12x12 "This piece explores the longevity that graffiti is normally susceptible to. The buff, white washing or the grey is a street artists worst enemy. Many mornings I have gone out to look at a piece in public I did the night before to see nothing but fresh paint over it. This piece entitled "I was here" pays tribute to those lost nights and depressing mornings" - Denial Denial is a Canadian artist who experiments with aerosol and stencil art, while his main fields of interest are consumerism, politics and the human condition in today’s society. Since the culture of graffiti was gaining more and more popularity in the US and Europe, the taggers had to be increasingly original in order to stand out. The signatures became bigger, more stylized and more colorful.

They remind me of some kind of a bio/anatomical shape. This piece was originally on exhibit for the Artaq in Paris and sold at the Pierre Cardin space in Paris during an exhibition. It was part of a black and white series I had done on a metal plate and this piece is probably the best piece of the series. I think overall it is also one of my favorite works, I like the flow and the movement that it has. I painted this piece with water-based enamel for the background and fine acrylic for the styles. I also used fire to burn the metal to create different kinds of shadows which gave more depth to the artwork. The support is a metal plate recycled from an offset printing press.” - Made514

"This painting is part of my current show titled 'Everyone's a critic." This series presents a caustic commentary on the art world and what mystifies the public about the art world – art that is not made by the artists themselves, money as an end game, art-speak, etc. The idea behind this piece is basically about the acceptance and commercialization of graffiti. Where in the past, graffiti was looked at as an illegal eyesore to the public and now it is adorned and used in the main stream media, sold as fine art and used for commercial purposes." - David Lyle

The Mash- Embellished Limited Edition Hand-Embellished Archival Pigment Prints and Arcylic on 310gsm Fine Art Paper by Cope2 Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. "This piece was made towards the end of 2014. I was in my studio, listening to music and The Monster Mash came on. It was funny because I just started painting to the song and that's kinda how it went. This piece is more of what I'm doing today. It's kind of mashed up with all kinds of paint and different designs. It's got a lot of fo elements of what I do.It all kinda goes right. It's simple and to the point. Simplicity." - Cope2 The beginning of the new millennium found Cope2 in a different place in his career, as he started focusing more and more on ways to establish himself in the art scene of galleries and museums. Even though the artist had started working on canvas much earlier than the 2000s, it was then that he made this dynamic twist and agreed to exhibit indoors systematically. Whether you see graffiti as an expressive and lively form of art or as a form of irresponsible vandalism, one thing is certain; in recent years it has captured the attention of the general population to the world’s biggest galleries.

All of the pieces are painted on NYC subway maps.I painted on a 1972 New York City subway map because this version was the best-designed map in my opinion. "Having developed my style over the course of thirty years, I often use vibrant colors and funky lettering to capture the viewer's attention in an instant. While my graffiti is generally limited to the street, I decided to showcase three original canvases exclusively for 1xRUN.As an artist, I have deep and passionate respect for the forefathers of the Pop Art Movement. Some of my greatest influence has come from Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. They planted the seeds in the latter part of the 20th century which changed people's perception of art. It's remarkable when a handful of individuals can spawn a revolution that will continue for many years to come, well into the 21st century. They created a paradigm shift in how art was to be interpreted and became the legendary masters." - Sen2

Street Art Graffiti Pop Artwork

Origins and Evolution of Street Art

Street art, a vibrant facet of urban culture, has evolved from its origins as illicit graffiti to become a recognized form of public art that influences and is influenced by pop art and graffiti art. The term encompasses a variety of visual art forms created in public locations, typically outside of the traditional venues of art galleries or museums. The genesis of street art can be traced back to the graffiti movement of the 1960s and 1970s in New York City, where artists began using the urban landscape to express themselves outside the constraints of the art establishment. These early graffiti artists laid the foundation for street art by taking their work to the streets and marking buildings, subways, and billboards with their distinctive styles.

Transition from Graffiti to Street Art

As the movement grew, the scope of street art expanded. Artists began experimenting with different materials and techniques, including stencil graffiti, sticker art, wheat pasting, and street installations. The accessibility of street art, visible to all who pass by, challenged the notion that art should be confined to galleries and museums. Instead, it argued that it could be a form of communication and expression integrated into everyday life.

Street Art and Pop Art: A Symbiotic Relationship

The influence of pop art on street art is evident in the shared use of popular cultural imagery and the critique of consumerism. Pop art pioneers like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein borrowed from commercial art and advertising, much like street artists incorporate logos, branding, and cartoon characters into their work to comment on contemporary society.

Legal and Ethical Considerations

While street art has gained popularity and acceptance, the legality of unsanctioned work remains a contentious issue. Creating art in public spaces without permission is illegal in many jurisdictions, and yet, this transgressive nature gives street art some of its power. The debate over whether street art constitutes vandalism or public service highlights the ongoing tension between the artist's freedom of expression and the rights of property owners.

Street Art in the Digital Age

The rise of social media has played a significant role in the proliferation and democratization of street art. Platforms like Instagram have allowed street artists to share their work with a global audience, transcending the physical limitations of location. Digital photography and the internet have also enabled street art to be documented and preserved, countering its inherently ephemeral nature.

Impact on Culture and Society

Street art can uniquely engage with the community and reflect the social and political climate. Artists like Banksy, Shepard Fairey, and JR use street art to provoke thought and inspire conversation on topics ranging from war and peace to poverty and human rights. This engagement with broader societal issues elevates street art from mere decoration to a form of social commentary.

Commercialization and Mainstream Acceptance

As street art has become more mainstream, it has become more commercialized. This commercialization raises questions about the soul of street art. Can street art maintain its edge and authenticity when sold in galleries or commissioned by brands? This debate continues to shape the trajectory of street art as it becomes an increasingly accepted form of contemporary art. Street art, a dynamic and multifaceted form of creative expression, occupies a unique position at the intersection of visual art, cultural commentary, and public engagement. As it continues to evolve, the influence of street pop art and graffiti artwork on the cultural landscape is undeniable. It remains a powerful tool for artists to connect with the public, challenge societal norms, and push the boundaries of what is possible in art.
