This figure is significant for its aesthetic and role in the more extensive dialogue of what constitutes art in the public realm. By elevating the Companion to a museum-worthy piece while maintaining its roots in street culture, KAWS challenges and expands the definition of street pop art. Erik Otto Silver Moon Silkscreen Print by Erik Otto

Silver Moon Limited Edition 3-Color Hand-Pulled Silkscreen Print on 290gsm Coventry Rag Vellum by Erik Otto Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. "Where my mother grew up in Texas, one of the largest employers was NASA, and she was fortunate enough to be present during the Apollo 11 mission that resulted in man's first step on the moon. Through this influence and my early discovery of Carl Sagan, I developed a curiosity for the solar system, the elements that connect us all, and the many symbols different cultures apply to the cosmos. The silver moon concept combines the self-reflective qualities of silver and the healing powers of the moon. Separated marks carefully arranged and suspended within the composition each depict natural elements while producing a suggestive horizon with the moons sitting still in its fullness on a seemingly endless black surface. This piece was created during a time of reinvention within the studio as I committed to producing an all-new body of work exploring the symbolic characteristics of waves and water. " - Erik Otto

With its unopened packaging and pristine condition, this particular edition is a coveted item for collectors of modern art toys and followers of KAWS alike. The piece's aesthetic appeal and significance in the trajectory of street pop art and graffiti artwork make it a multifaceted artwork that is both a cultural artifact and a testament to KAWS's enduring impact on contemporary art. Texas Chain Saw Massacre 7-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on Fine Art Paper by Jason Edmiston, Rare Street Art Famous Pop Artwork Artist. AP Artist Proof 2014 Limited Edition Signed & Marked with Working Copy Number on Reverse. These prints were made with Dark Sky for the 40th-anniversary re-release of TCSM by Tobe Hooper. The 18 x 24" 7-layer silkscreen was printed by FugScreens Studios. The Evolution of Street Pop and Graffiti Artwork The nexus of street pop art and graffiti artwork has found a poignant representation in Jason Edmiston's silkscreen prints. In modern art, these mediums have transcended their once underground status to become celebrated forms of contemporary expression. Edmiston, a Canadian artist, has been a prominent figure in this transformation, contributing works that resonate with cultural narratives and iconic imagery. Jason Edmiston and the Art of Silkscreen Printing Jason Edmiston's body of work is a testament to the meticulous art of silkscreen printing, which requires the artist to layer colors carefully to create a final image. The "Texas Chain Saw Massacre 7-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print" is a brilliant example of this craft. Produced on fine art paper, this piece commemorates the 40th anniversary of the cult classic film "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre," directed by Tobe Hooper. With each of the seven layers, Edmiston breathes life into this piece, evoking a sense of nostalgia and horror that the film is renowned for. The detail in the print is a testament to the painstaking process of silkscreen printing, where each color is applied one at a time, and the artist must wait for each layer to dry before applying the next. The artwork's limited edition status is marked by Edmiston's signature, an assurance of authenticity, and a bond between the artist and the collector. The artist proof (AP) designation indicates a print traditionally used to check the progress of an edition, often held in higher esteem due to its place in the printing process. Each AP from this series has been marked with a working copy number on the reverse, further solidifying its exclusivity and connection to the artist's process. Street Pop Art's Influence on Modern Culture Street pop art, a blend of street art sensibilities with the mass appeal of pop art, has increasingly become a significant cultural force. Edmiston's work within this genre does more than pay homage to a cinematic landmark; it also encapsulates the essence of street pop art by fusing popular culture with the raw, accessible nature of street art. The choice of subject, "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre," is particularly apt, as it mirrors graffiti artwork's often provocative and aggressive nature. This genre, once seen as a form of vandalism, has evolved into a recognized and influential art form, celebrated in galleries and sought after by collectors. Edmiston's limited edition print embodies this shift, taking a piece of street art's spirit and elevating it to a collectible fine art piece. By doing so, the artist contributes to the ongoing dialogue about the value and legitimacy of street art and graffiti in the art world. Jason Edmiston's work celebrates this evolution, a bridge between the ephemeral nature of street art and the permanence of fine art collecting. His limited edition silkscreen print of "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" is a collector's item and a piece of history, capturing a moment in time when street pop art and graffiti artwork were solidified as influential and enduring elements of contemporary art.

Texas
The vast state of Texas, with its rich history and diverse cultural landscape, has become a vibrant canvas for artists working in pop art, street art, and graffiti. The Lone Star State's unique blend of traditional southern culture with a modern, progressive outlook has given rise to a distinctive art scene that marries the ruggedness of Texas with the color and vitality of these dynamic art forms.

Texas: A New Frontier for Street Pop Art & Graffiti

From the sprawling murals of Houston's street art scene to the iconic postering of Austin's music venues, Texas has embraced street pop art and graffiti with a signature flair. The state's expansive urban areas provide ample public spaces for murals that often reflect the state's historical figures, current celebrities, and the diverse natural landscapes that make Texas unique. These public artworks revitalize communities, often turning otherwise bland city walls into sources of pride and conversation.

The Bold Strokes of Texan Artistry

Texan artists have contributed significantly to the street art narrative, with works that often showcase the state's larger-than-life personality. The art captures everything from the state's iconic longhorn cattle and wild bluebonnets to symbols of Texas pride, like the Lone Star flag, in bold strokes and vivid colors. This visual storytelling solidifies the connection between Texas' cultural identity and the expressive potential of street pop art and graffiti.

Deep in the Art of Texas: Pop Culture Meets Urban Expression

Texas' unique take on pop art can be seen in integrating classical Western motifs with contemporary pop culture references, creating a dialogue between the old and the new. This juxtaposition is a hallmark of the state's approach to pop art, as seen in galleries and public spaces, where traditional Texas imagery meets the modern sensibilities of pop art to create works that are at once familiar and innovative. The richness of Texas as a subject in pop art, street art, and graffiti art cannot be overstated. The state is a muse for artists who draw from its storied past and dynamic present to create works that resonate with both Texans and a global audience. Texas, with its blend of the historical and the contemporary, the rural and the urban, continues to be a fertile ground for the growth and evolution of these art forms.
