Wayne White

Wayne White is an American artist, art director, puppeteer, set designer, and animator, born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on September 17, 1957. He is best known for his work on the influential children's television show "Pee-wee's Playhouse," where he designed sets and created iconic puppets like Randy, Cool Cat, and Chicky Baby. White's work spans various media, including painting, sculpture, and animation. He gained recognition in the art world for his word paintings, in which he superimposes bold, colorful text onto found landscape paintings, often featuring humorous or thought-provoking phrases. These word paintings have been exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States. In addition to his work on "Pee-wee's Playhouse," White has contributed to other television shows, such as "Beakman's World" and "Shining Time Station." He has also worked as an art director for music videos, including Peter Gabriel's "Big Time" and The Smashing Pumpkins' "Tonight, Tonight." The 2012 documentary "Beauty is Embarrassing" explores Wayne White's life and career, showcasing his unique artistic vision and the impact he has had on contemporary art and popular culture.
