So I created it to their size specification of 5ft wide and 13ft tall and the piece was put into Iron Man Tony Starks' home in the film. Then they asked me if I’d be interested in doing more work for the Mandarin’s lair a few months later when they were shooting in Miami. I of course said yes, and ended up doing 13 more massive paintings and some set design for them along with the Iron Man mask you see here. They asked me to create a design for the wrap of the film last year. They made shirts and postcards for the set department with that image. So while this doesn't appear in the film it was definitely a big part of the project." - BASK

I’ve always loved English Pastoral paintings and knew right away that I wanted to do something in a similar vein. I decided to introduce a predatory element to this otherwise idyllic scene, and a family of Wolves seemed appropriate. At the time I was also watching a steady stream of BBC nature documentaries and it got me in a contemplative mood, thinking about the cycles of life, death, and rebirth. In celebration of the popular image I wanted to do another version. This time changing the color ways from the electric red. 50 editions to be in cool blues and another 50 in deep golds. In the last year, I really started to build on them and build them out into whole new worlds. It’s a total exploration phase for me. In between the pieces I already had in the works this was an outlet to completely move freely. To my own surprise really they were a very successful exploration in many ways.

Sadly, the majority of my subjects disappear soon after I paint them. It makes me feel like some kind of Grim Reaper of architecture.
