Shepard Fairey- OBEY Legislative Influence For Sale Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Legislative Influence For Sale 2-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on Fine Art Paper by Shepard Fairey Rare Street Art OBEY Pop Artwork Artist. 2011 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 450 Artwork Size 18x24 Silkscreen Democrat Propaganda Print of United States President Ronald Regan Holding Sign That Reads "Legislative Influence For Sale" like one side is innocent. "Legislative Influence For Sale" is a potent visual commentary by the renowned street artist Shepard Fairey, who rose to global recognition under the moniker OBEY. This artwork, created in 2011, is a limited edition, hand-pulled silkscreen print on fine art paper, and its rarity is underscored by its exclusivity: only 450 signed and numbered copies exist. Measuring 18x24 inches, this piece is not just art; it's a socio-political statement that challenges viewers to confront the intricacies of power, politics, and influence. Fairey's choice of imagery is both bold and thought-provoking. He presents a depiction of the 40th United States President, Ronald Reagan, holding a sign that proclaims, "Legislative Influence For Sale." The audacious portrayal hints at the complex interplay of political agendas, financial influences, and lobbying, suggesting that even the highest office might not be immune to corruption or undue influence. Furthermore, the artist's clever juxtaposition of implying that one side might be innocent plays with the ambiguity of political righteousness, forcing a reflection upon the nuances of political morality. In the realms of pop art, street art, and graffiti, artists often hold a mirror to society, urging introspection, critique, and, at times, activism. Shepard Fairey's piece stands tall within this tradition. His deliberate use of the silkscreen medium, historically associated with both fine art (think Andy Warhol) and protest (recalling posters and flyers), emphasizes the blend of aesthetic beauty and powerful messaging. Through "Legislative Influence For Sale," Fairey not only cements his place in the pantheon of street art legends but also reignites essential conversations about democracy, integrity, and the potential pitfalls of unchecked power.

The High Cost Of Free Speech Limited Edition 2-Color Hand-Pulled Silkscreen Print on Speckled Cream Paper by Shepard Fairey Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. Punk rock ignited a lot of creative and philosophical things for me, and punk principles continuously remind me that speaking truth to power and questioning authority is paramount in life. The Dead Kennedys, The Clash, Black Flag, and the Circle Jerks are just a few of the groups that referenced injustices such as police brutality and abuse of power in their songs, inspiring me to speak out about the same subjects through my art. I have made a lot of lasting friendships through punk rock and its cultural offshoots. One of those friends is Sean Bonner, who began ordering my prints in the ’90s while he was art director for punk label Victory Records.

  • Know Your Rights Large Format Serigraph Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Shepard Fairey- OBEY Know Your Rights Large Format Serigraph Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Know Your Rights- Large Format Limited Edition Hand Pulled 1-Color Serigraph Print on Varnished 100% Cotton Rag Archival Paper with hand-deckled edges by Shepard Fairey Graffiti Street Artist Modern Pop Art. 2014 Signed & Numbered Serigraph Artwork 42 x 42 inchesAugust 21, 201. 42 x 42 Large Format Serigraph.1 Color printed on Varnished 100% Cotton Rag Archival Paper. "Know Your Rights" is a commanding serigraph by Shepard Fairey, an artist who has cemented his place in the contemporary art scene through works that intertwine the ethos of street art with the aesthetic of modern pop art. This piece, released on August 21, 2014, is particularly noteworthy not only for its bold political message but also for the meticulous craftsmanship that goes into the production of each print. As an extensive format work, measuring an impressive 42 x 42 inches, it makes an indelible mark on the viewer, both through its scale and its strikingly stark one-color presentation on varnished 100% cotton rag archival paper, complete with hand-deckled edges. Shepard Fairey is renowned for blending fine art with the raw, in-your-face quality of street art and graffiti, and "Know Your Rights" is a prime example of this synthesis. The piece is anchored by a central image featuring an open book titled "THE FUTURE IS UNWRITTEN," encapsulating a message of empowerment and the potential for change. This is framed by laurels and a lit torch, evoking classic motifs that signify victory, knowledge, and enlightenment. The bordering texts "OBEY PROPAGANDA" and "KNOW YOUR RIGHTS" play into Fairey's recurring themes of propaganda, control, and the dissemination of information, urging the viewer to question authority and the narratives they are presented with. Each print in this limited edition is signed and numbered by Fairey, signifying its authenticity and connection to the artist's hand. The decision to use a one-color palette speaks to the work's assertive simplicity and Fairey's skill in using contrast and texture to convey depth and resonance. It's a technique that mirrors his street art roots, where messages must be given quickly and memorably. The serigraph process, a labor-intensive method of screen printing, ensures that each impression is of the highest quality, with the varnishing on the cotton rag paper adding a durable, tactile finish that also enhances the visual impact. "Know Your Rights" stands as a powerful statement in Fairey's oeuvre, reflecting his social and political advocacy rendered through his distinct pop art lens. This artwork resonates with the immediacy of street art and carries the weight of historical art traditions, bridging contemporary concerns with timeless expressions of resistance and hope.

Jamie Reid Never Trust A Punk Giclee Print by Jamie Reid

Never Trust A Punk Artwork Giclee Limited Edition Print on 290gsm Hahnemühle Bamboo Paper by Pop Culture Graffiti Artist Jamie Reid. 2019 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 300 Artwork Size 32.3x22.8 In the annals of pop culture, graffiti, and street art, Jamie Reid emerges as a luminary, challenging societal norms with his provocative creations. "Never Trust A Punk" stands as a testament to Reid's unparalleled ability to intertwine art with cultural and political discourse. This piece, crafted in 2019, distinctly captures the punk ethos that rose to prominence in the late 1970s, becoming a hallmark of Reid's aesthetic. "Never Trust A Punk" is not merely an artwork but a statement, a proclamation that showcases Reid's characteristic blend of satire, dissent, and visual appeal. The juxtaposition of the iconic Union Jack with a stark portrayal of the British monarch, her eyes concealed, boldly encapsulates the rebellious spirit of the time. The message is clear, echoing sentiments of distrust and rebellion, which were rampant during the punk movement. This artwork holds an even deeper resonance for music enthusiasts and followers of British punk rock. The imagery bears a striking resemblance to that used for the cover of "God Save the Queen" by The Sex Pistols in 1977, a track that stirred controversy and remains emblematic of the punk era. As a limited edition giclee print, only 300 pieces of "Never Trust A Punk" were ever produced. Each print is immaculately rendered on premium 290gsm Hahnemühle bamboo paper, a medium chosen for its ability to capture the vibrancy and detail of the original artwork. Measuring at 32.3 x 22.8 inches, each piece is hand-signed and numbered by Reid, solidifying its authenticity and making it a coveted item for collectors and art enthusiasts alike.

Mad Rise Against the System Orange Silkscreen Print by MAD

Rise Against the System- Orange 8-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on 300gsm Bristol Paper by MAD Rare Street Art Famous Pop Artwork Artist. 2021 Signed & Numbered Limited Edition of 30 Artwork Size 19.7x27.6 "Rise Against the System - Orange" presents itself as a profound visual statement in the portfolio of the artist known as MAD, whose identity often remains as enigmatic as the messages embedded within their art. This piece is particularly remarkable, not only for its vibrant aesthetic but also for its rarity and the technique used in its creation. It is a limited edition silkscreen print with only 30 pieces, each meticulously signed and numbered by the artist. It underscores its value to collectors and enthusiasts of street art and pop art alike. The artwork spans a generous 19.7x27.6 inches and is printed on robust 300gsm Bristol paper, a choice that speaks to the durability and high quality of the print. The artwork is an eight-color hand-pulled silkscreen, a traditional technique that imbues each print with a unique touch, diverging from the uniformity of mass-produced art. The image itself—a figure entrapped within a bottle—acts as a metaphor for the constraints and pressures of societal systems. The use of an Orange palette not only draws the eye but also may represent the idea of 'going Orange, a theme often explored in contemporary street art. The figure's pose, one of active resistance against the confines of the bottle, is symbolic of the fight against oppressive structures, a recurring theme in street art's lexicon, which often seeks to challenge the status quo. MAD's piece resonates within the broader context of pop art through its accessible imagery and bold coloration, yet it retains the edginess and subversion characteristic of street art. This duality ensures "Rise Against the System - Orange" speaks a universal language, appealing to a broad audience while remaining deeply rooted in the cultural and political commentary that defines much of the street art movement. Through this work, MAD offers a compelling narrative on personal agency and liberation, creating a lasting visual impact that transcends the moment of its creation, cementing its place in the discourse of modern art.

  • Moon Over Biloxi Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Shepard Fairey- OBEY Moon Over Biloxi Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Moon Over Biloxi 1-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on Fine Art Paper by Shepard Fairey Rare Street Art Famous Pop Artwork Artist. Signed & Numbered Moon Over Biloxi Screen Print 18 x 24 inches Edition of 400 July 27, 2010. "The title of this print “Moon Over Biloxi” is a tribute to the Dead Kennedy’s song “Moon Over Marin”. In 1984 I picked up maybe my 4th punk record which was the 2nd Dead Kennedy’s album “Plastic Surgery Disasters”. The album is a great listen all the way through and includes some blistering tunes like “Riot” and “Bleed For Me” laced with social commentary. The surprise song though is “Moon Over Marin”… detractors have called it the Dead Kennedy’s “U2” song, but I disagree. “Moon Over Marin” is more melodic than most DK, but juxtaposed with the darkness of the lyrics, the song evokes a powerful sense of existential melancholy. I think the concept that struck me, and stuck with me, is that our disrespect of each other and the planet may doom us, but things will continue without us. I think it is healthy to recognize impermanence, but also to appreciate the value of the ephemeral. Moonlight, real or electric, will probably be around, but what it will be casting light on is the real question. There will always be a moon over Biloxi." -Shepard

  • Just Future Rising Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Shepard Fairey- OBEY Just Future Rising Silkscreen Print by Shepard Fairey- OBEY

Just Future Rising 4-Color Hand-Pulled Limited Edition Silkscreen Print on Fine Speckletone Art Paper by Shepard Fairey Rare Street Art OBEY Pop Artwork Artist. 2021 Signed & Numbered, Just Future Rising 18 inches by 24 inches Edition of 450 June 23, 2021 "I created for the Time “VOTE” cover just before the 2020 election. At the time, I wanted to address the very unique situation we were in as a country as we faced the Covid-19 pandemic, unrest around police brutality and racial discrimination, voter suppression, and intense political division. We are still facing all of those things, though the development of Covid vaccines has significantly improved public safety and benefitted the fight to end the pandemic. In this illustration, the usually clear-cut rebel symbol of a bandana covering a face takes on a different meaning during Covid, becoming an emblem of safety, respect for one’s fellow citizens, and a sign that the wearer believes in science." -Shepard Fairey The "Just Future Rising" is a striking silkscreen print by Shepard Fairey, an artist renowned for his profound impact on street and pop art through the OBEY series. This limited edition artwork, measuring 18 by 24 inches, was released on June 23, 2021, in a numbered series of 450 pieces. Each print is hand-pulled, utilizing four colors on fine speckle tone paper, highlighting Fairey's signature style that merges art with social commentary. This piece is an extension of his engagement with contemporary issues, as it initially accompanied the Time magazine “VOTE” cover crafted in the lead-up to the 2020 election. Fairey's work consistently echoes themes of political activism and cultural critique, and "Just Future Rising" is a vivid representation of that ethos. The image reflects the turbulent climate of its creation: a nation grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic, societal upheaval stemming from racial injustice, the challenges to democracy through voter suppression, and deep-seated political polarization. In this print, the image of a woman with a bandana covering her face symbolizes a multifaceted narrative—transforming a traditional sign of rebellion into a symbol of safety and solidarity in the face of a public health crisis. The bandana, adorned with intricate patterns, carries a badge that reads "The Future is Unwritten," reinforcing the message that change is possible and the future is in the hands of the people. Fairey's choice to depict the bandana, a classic rebel icon, as a protective mask denotes a profound shift in cultural symbols due to the pandemic. It reflects a respect for science and an acknowledgment of the collective effort required to navigate the crisis. The artwork transcends mere aesthetics, embodying the message that caring for one's community and being considerate of public health are now acts of rebellion in their own right. This resonates deeply with the artist's long-standing commitment to using his craft to support social and political change. In the portfolio of Shepard Fairey's creations, "Just Future Rising" is not just a piece of pop artwork; it is a cultural artifact born out of an era defined by upheaval and a call to action. It stands as a reminder of the power of art to influence discourse, inspire action, and reflect the complexities of the human experience in times of adversity.

"These “Factory Stacks” images combine the austere, angular power of factory architecture with graphic elements commenting on what we promote and embrace as a society even when those things are destructive. The fossil fuel industries have tremendous power economically, but we now know that not only are fossil fuel sources finite but that using them is terrible for climate change and, therefore, the eco-systems that sustain life on our planet. Unfortunately, due to the political power of these industries and public apathy about climate change, the government subsidizes the fossil fuel industries for billions even as they damage the environment. The government works for the citizens, so the choice is ours. Do we support endless power for wealthy fossil fuel corporations? Or policies that put the earth first with the planet before profits? Please read Naomi Klein’s THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING to better understand the conflict between economic interests and climate change. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this print will go to Greenpeace to fight climate change. Thanks for caring.” – Shepard

Government & Politics Street Pop Art & Graffiti Artwork

Artistic Commentary on Government and Politics in Street Pop Art

Street pop art and graffiti artwork have long served as a visual language for political discourse and social commentary. The inherently public and accessible nature of these art forms makes them powerful tools for artists to express their views on government and politics. Whether splashed across city walls or displayed in galleries, these works often reflect the artists' perspectives on the political climate, societal issues, and power dynamics. The relationship between government and politics and street pop art is symbiotic. On one hand, the art form often thrives under the radar of official scrutiny, its rebellious streak a response to perceived overreach or authoritarian tendencies. On the other hand, it can serve as a sanctioned medium for political messaging, especially in more liberal societies that embrace public art as a form of civic engagement. Artists utilize this platform to spark debate, challenge authority, and inspire political action, sometimes at significant personal risk.

The Impact of Street Art on Political Expression

Street art's ability to reach a broad audience outside of traditional art venues makes it an incredibly effective means of political expression. Murals and installations often become local landmarks, drawing attention to the issues they portray and making political discourse a part of everyday life. The visual strategies employed by street artists—such as parody, satire, and symbolism—can distill complex political messages into impactful imagery that resonates with the viewer on an intuitive level. The political influence of street pop art and graffiti can be seen in its use by movements seeking to democratize public space and challenge dominant narratives. The art form's agility in adapting to the changing political landscape allows it to address immediate concerns and react to current events faster than traditional forms of political commentary. Its impact is magnified by the advent of social media, where images of political street art can go viral, reaching international audiences and becoming symbols of resistance and solidarity.

Street Pop Art as a Chronicle of Political Change

Over the decades, street pop art has chronicled the ebb and flow of political change from the protest movements of the 1960s to the present day. It often provides historical snapshots of the public sentiment during times of political upheaval. In societies undergoing rapid transformation or conflict, street art can document the aspirations and frustrations of the populace, often serving as a barometer for social tension. This art form also raises questions about the ownership and use of public space. By taking art out of the private realm and into the communal, street artists challenge the idea that government and authorities have ultimate control over visual and cultural expressions in public areas. This act of reclaiming space is a political statement, affirming the right to free expression and participation in the civic dialogue.
In summary, street pop art and graffiti artwork occupy a unique position at the intersection of art, politics, and public discourse. By engaging directly with the community and utilizing public spaces as canvases, these art forms democratize access to political expression and empower individuals and movements to communicate their messages powerfully and poignantly. As governments and politics evolve, so will the art that reflects and often challenges them, maintaining its role as a vital voice in the ongoing conversation about power, policy, and the people.
