"In 2013 I painted the large, ABOVE arrow on this barn in Canada. Last month in Sweden, I painted this Target. These two styles of artwork bridge my past style of ABOVE with my current style of, PAPEL. It’s funny to think of the arrow hitting the target and the connection between the two artworks. The set of prints illustrates the journey of my past and present styles over the past 20 years." -Tavar Zawacki- Above
20 Years of Above Funny Farm Giclée Print by Tavar Zawacki
20 Years of Above Funny Farm is a 2022 giclée print by Tavar Zawacki, also known as ABOVE, commemorating two decades of his iconic arrow-based visual language. This signed and numbered limited edition of 291 measures 20 x 20 inches and is produced using fine art archival pigment printing on Hahnemühle cotton paper. Printed on natural white, 270gsm, acid-free paper by Kilford Studio in Lisbon, Portugal, the work reflects both technical precision and long-term archival quality.
The ABOVE Arrow, Place, and Personal History
The image documents a large-scale barn painting created by Zawacki in Canada in 2013, featuring his instantly recognizable upward-pointing arrow filled with layered color bands and the word “ABOVE” at its center. The arrow functions as both a graphic symbol and a personal signature, representing optimism, direction, and elevation. The setting—a rural barn often referred to as the “Funny Farm”—adds a sense of humor and humility, contrasting monumental symbolism with an everyday structure. The presence of the artist seated atop the roof reinforces themes of risk, freedom, and authorship within the physical act of street art.
Evolution of Style and Collector Significance
This print is part of a conceptual pairing that bridges Zawacki’s earlier ABOVE identity with his more recent PAPEL work, reflecting an evolution from bold, graphic street interventions toward more refined, geometric abstraction. As Zawacki notes, the arrow imagery metaphorically “hits the target,” connecting past and present across a 20-year artistic journey. For collectors, 20 Years of Above Funny Farm holds significance as both a historical marker and a visual autobiography, capturing a pivotal moment in the artist’s career while preserving the spirit of large-scale graffiti within a finely produced studio print.
